What Is In A Pkg File

The PKG computer file extension is used by more than one program or application, so the content of the PKG file on your system depends on the computer, operating system and the programs that you've downloaded or installed. In general, the PKG extension denotes a package file that contains an archive of installation and executable files.

PlayStation Store PKG Files

If you've bought and downloaded an item from the Sony PlayStation store, the downloaded file will have a PKG file extension. The encrypted file won't open on your computer, but it will open on your Sony PlayStation 3 or PlayStation Portable games console. Transfer the PKG file to the games console via your home network or with a USB flash drive or external hard drive. Once transferred, open the PKG file on the PlayStation to install the downloaded game, movie or demo.

Apple Installer PKG Files

The Apple Mac OS X operating system uses files with the PKG extension to package and compress the files needed to install a specific program or application. The PKG file is similar to the MSI installer files used by computers running the Microsoft Windows operating system. If you've downloaded a program for your Apple Mac, the program's installation files may be contained in a PKG file. You can view the contents of the PKG file on your Mac by right-clicking the file and selecting "Show Package Contents" from the context menu. To install the program from a PKG file, double-click the file.

Symbian PKG Files

Smartphones using the Symbian operating system use SIS files to launch and run applications on the platform. In some cases, the application developer packages SIS files with instructions, information and command lines in a PKG file. You can open a PKG file and view the contents on a Windows computer with the UnSIS, Easy SIS Creator and CreateSIS utilities. Although you can view the contents of the file on the computer, you can only install the application contained in the file on a smartphone with the Symbian operating system.

CoCreate Modeling PKG Files

CoCreate Modeling software uses the PKG file extension to compress and package the files required for downloading a 3-D model. The PKG format reduces the size of the files and makes them easier to download in one session. You can view and open the files with CoCreate Modeling, or the earlier software versions known as SolidDesigner or OneSpace Designer. Adobe Acrobat Pro X software can also open this PKG format on both Windows and Mac computers.

Precautions

Computer viruses and malicious software can come with almost any file format extension. If you don't recognize a file and can't remember downloading it, always scan the file with your computer's anti-virus software before viewing the contents or opening and installing the file. Most anti-virus programs allow you to scan an individual file by right-clicking the file and selecting the virus scan option from the context menu. Otherwise, open the file in the anti-virus program to scan and check the contents.

Unlock A Bell Cell Phone

Unlocking a Bell cell phone requires contract information and SIM card code.

Bell is one of Canada's largest communications companies. Bell provides customers with mobility, broadband and cable services. Bell sells cell phones through its retail locations and supports the phones on its service network. Bell cell phones are restricted to Bell's network unless unlocked. To unlock it, you need to contact a Bell representative, fulfill specific criteria and have your Bell phone and SIM card ready.

Instructions

1. Visit your local Bell store to speak with a representative. Bring your Bell cell phone, the SIM card and your Bell contract when you go.

2. Inform the representative that you would like to unlock your Bell cell phone. The representative will ask to see your contract to determine whether you are eligible for unlocking your device.

3. Provide the representative with your SIM card code. Pull the SIM card, normally secured in a small metal lock behind the battery inside your phone, and give the clerk the code on the card.

4. Sign any documents the representative may provide you. This can include statements that you want to opt out of your contract or statements that explains your release from the Bell network.

5. Pay any fees required to unlock your Bell cell phone. The fee may vary depending on your contract status and your cell phone. If you are using a smart phone such as an iPhone or a Blackberry, the unlocking fee may be more since it also uses 3G networks. You may be asked to compensate for your contract payments to Bell, if you are unlocking your device during a contract period.

6. Save your Bell SIM card after the unlocking is done. You can now register your Bell SIM card and cell phone with a new service provider.

Create A Voice Mail

Configure your voice mail account before receiving messages.

Missing an important phone call is an inconvenience, particularly when you anticipate receiving important information during the call. Fortunately, most cell phones are equipped with voice mail accounts, allowing your callers to leave messages for you. After you purchase a new phone, set up your voice mail account immediately to ensure that you do not miss any messages. Set up the account before giving your phone number to others. The instructions for setting up your voice mail are located in your phone's user manual or on a sheet within the phone's package.

Instructions

1. Locate the voice mail setup instructions in your phone's user manual. Alternatively, locate the instructions by searching for "user manual" and your phone's model in a search engine, such as Google, Yahoo or Bing.

2. Dial the phone number associated with your voice mail account to access the system. The phone number is located in the setup instructions. For example, T-Mobile users press and hold the "1" button for several seconds to access the system.

3. Follow the automated prompts to set up your voice mail account. Record a greeting, your name, and choose a password to access the system. The password is usually a four-digit number, although it can be longer. For example, AT&T users choose passwords between four and fifteen digits.

Fring Vs Skype

The Skype application works on almost any computer with a webcam.

The last decade has seen an explosion in the number of video conferencing applications in the consumer market. Skype continues to be one of the most popular of these applications with 560 million registered users. Google Talk by comparison, has 976,000 users. Skype provides video calling services for both computers and mobile phones. Fring is relatively new to the video calling world and focuses exclusively on mobile phone support. Overall, Skype offers many more services to consumers than Fring. Fring succeeds, however, in delivering its calling services at significantly lower prices than Skype.

Software Accessibility

The Skype service includes computer software for Mac, Windows and Linux platforms. This software is completely free to download. Skype also includes mobile software for iPhones, Android phones, Blackberries and a host of other 3G devices. Fring, on the other hand, only includes mobile software for iPhones, Android phones and Nokia OVI devices. Fring's software is also free to download.

Video Chatting Plans

Skype allows users to chat one-on-one with any other Skype user at no charge. The company charges a monthly subscription fee if you choose to video chat with multiple users. Conference calls can include up to 10 users. The fee varies, depending upon the number of months you subscribe. You can also purchase a single-day pass for a one-off group video chat. Fring allows you to video chat with up to four users for free. The company does not include a paid service, so it limits all video chatting to five people.

Phone Call Service

Skype allows users to call any landline or mobile phone in the world from within the application. The service charges fees starting from 2.3 cents per minute up to 71 cents per minute. Fees vary widely depending upon the country users call. Domestic U.S. calls are only 2.3 cents per minute. Users can also choose monthly calling subscriptions. Fring includes mobile and landline calling to any country in the world. Fring's calling rate begin at 0.9 cents per minute for U.S. domestic calls and go up to 42 cents per minute.

Software Support

Skype includes a very extensive support system for users. The website includes an FAQ section, application how-to guides and a support forum. Skype also includes specialized help for business users utilizing their software within their companies. Fring includes a more limited support website, including user guides and FAQs and allowing Fring members to submit individual support tickets.

Use Any Rechargeable Battery For A Flip Camera Pack

The Flip UltraHD camcorder is a line of compact video recorders from Flip Video. It is the only line of camcorders from Flip that can use external battery packs. All other Flip camcorder models are powered by internal, non-removable battery packs. Both the Flip UltraHD 4GB and 8GB models can use a variety of battery sources, including conventional batteries, rechargeable batteries and Flip's custom rechargeable battery packs.

Battery Sizes

The Flip UltraHD 4GB model camcorder includes two AA batteries in the box, while the Flip Ultra HD 8GB model comes with its own rechargeable Lithium-ion battery pack as an alternative to three conventional AAA batteries. The Lithium-on rechargeable battery pack is the same size as three conventional AAA batteries. You can use conventional batteries in either camera at any time, although the rechargeable battery packs are more environmentally friendly.

Compatibility

As an alternative to the Flip rechargeable battery packs, you can use any two conventional AA batteries in the Flip UltraHD 4GB, and any three conventional AAA batteries in the Flip UltraHD 8GB. You can also use any two rechargeable NiMH AA batteries in the 4GB camcorder, or any three AAA-sized Li-ion batteries in the 8GB model. You must recharge any rechargeable batteries in their own external charger.

Rechargeable Battery Packs

Both models of the Flip UltraHD have rechargeable battery packs available as accessories. Flip does not include the rechargeable battery pack with the 4GB, but you can purchase a rechargeable nickel-metal hydride battery as an additional accessory. NiMH batteries can hold several times the charge of a conventional battery, so it remains charged for up to two and half hours. The 8GB model's Lithium-ion battery can hold a charge for up to two hours.

Recharging Batteries

You can recharge the rechargeable battery packs from Flip by plugging them into any USB port of a plugged-in computer or other device. The length of time required to fully recharge the battery packs depends upon the age of the battery and the amount of use. You cannot recharge other rechargeable batteries while they're in the Flip camera. The USB recharger only works with the custom rechargeable battery packs from Flip.

Cell Phone Instructions

Cell phones have revolutionized the way we communicate and conduct business. They allow us to keep in constant contact with family and friends and improve productivity at work. Cell phones are generally easy to use and designed to be user-friendly. It's a snap to make calls, access the Internet and check voicemail.

Make sure your phone works

Turn on the phone. There usually is a power button near the keypad or on the side of the phone. If it's on the keypad, often it is red. Hold down this button until the screen lights up or the phone's logo appears onscreen. Wait for the phone to boot up before using it. If the phone does not turn on, the battery may need charging. Locate the charger, plug it in and charge it for a few hours. If this fails to resolve the problem, the battery may need to be replaced or the phone may be broken.

Make a call

Making and receiving calls on a cell phone is easy. Type the number you'd like to dial and push the green or send button. Some phones may have different buttons, but they should be clearly labeled. If you have a smartphone, look for the phone application to make calls.

Use advanced features

Not only can you make calls, but you can use Bluetooth and other useful features of your phone. Most hands-free headsets operate using Bluetooth technology. Turn on your Bluetooth device, then enable Bluetooth in the network settings. Your phone should detect the device and prompt you to "pair" it. Now you are ready to use common Bluetooth devices with your phone.

You can also choose contacts from an address book to make calls. Open your address book or contacts from the phone's home screen and you'll be presented with an easy, intuitive way to organize all the important people in your life. You can add multiple phone numbers, addresses and other contact information.

SMS, or text messaging, offers a way to stay in contact with family and friends. Choose the messaging function from the home screen and use the keypad to type a message. Most phones use predictive text input, so even though you are only using 9 keys to type, it will guess what you are trying to write. Some phones have full keyboards and cameras so you can send multimedia picture messages.

Your phone also may have come with games and may be able to access the Internet to check e-mail, news and sports scores. Some phones also have calendar and alarm features to remind you of important events.

Phone maintenance

To ensure a long life for your cell phone, proper care is required. To avoid potentially damaging spills, don't use your cell phone while eating or drinking. Don't leave your cell phone in a hot area, like a car, for prolonged periods. Doing so may damage the battery. To prolong battery life, charge your phone often and don't let the battery completely drain. If you are hard on electronic devices, you may look into buying a protective case for your phone.

Troubleshooting

When in doubt, consult your phone's instruction manual. If you have Internet access, visit the manufacturer's Web site to see if there is a manual available for download. If your phone is not working properly, turn it off by holding down the power button, then turn it back on. When all else fails, contact your provider's customer service.

What Is The Nokia Dct4

Nokia cellphones come with PINs.

DCT4 is the name of the generation of phones that were released by Nokia from 2003 to 2008. It is also the name of a generation of platform software and security technology used in Nokia cellphones. Nokia phone models that were made with the DCT4 code include the Nokia 5000, Nokia 3230 smartphone, Nokia 3200, Nokia 1600 and Nokia 1100.

PIN/PUK Codes

The security on a Nokia phone is provided by PIN codes. The personal identification number or PIN code of your subscriber identity module or SIM card consists of a four-to-eight-digit code that is meant to protect your SIM, which holds your cellphone number and in some instances your contacts and phone number list. If you incorrectly enter the PIN three times in a row, the phone will lock and you will need to use the personal unblocking key code, or PUK to unlock it. The PUK is an eight-digit code that you may be able to get from your cellphone network provider.

Lock Codes

The default lock or PIN code of a Nokia phone is 12345. It's a good idea to change the lock code once you purchase your phone to prevent someone from using it without your permission. When you see an error message from incorrectly entering the code three times, turn off the phone and wait 15 minutes, then turn it back on again.

Restriction Code

If you attempt to use a new SIM card, either to change your phone number or to change your cellular phone network provider, you may get the message "Enter restriction code." This is because the phone has been locked. A locked Nokia DCT4 phone can only be used with the network of the cellphone provider that you purchased it from.

Unlocking DCT4

Changing the subscriber identity module or SIM card of the phone will not take it off the company's network. You can unlock your DCT4 Nokia phone and change the SIM card to use a different network or a different phone number with a local area code when you are visiting another state or country to avoid huge roaming fees. You may be able to contact Nokia support to get your SIM unlocked or you can get the codes for unlocking your particular model of Nokia cellphone online with a free Nokia SIM unlock code.

Ways To Unlock A Phone

An unlocked mobile phone can be used on any network, no matter the service provider.

When you purchase a mobile phone, the cellphone provider usually "locks" the phone so that it can only be used on that provider's network. However, you can unlock some phones, such as those with GSM technology, so they can be used on any network. GSM phones, which are beneficial to those who travel extensively, are not tied to one network, and unlocking the phone to make it compatible on all networks is easy and inexpensive.

GSM and CDMA

Cellphones operate on either Global System Mobile (GSM) or Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) technology. GSM phones have a more complete coverage in regard to international calls and roaming, but the technology is actually older than the CDMA technology. It is also the most popular technology used by cellphone providers. CDMA is described as "spread spectrum." It works by using codes to separate voice and data signals, and it is the preferred technology on 3G networks. While a GSM phone can be unlocked, allowing an user to switch the phone's SIM card, CDMA phones cannot be unlocked. When a phone with GSM technology is unlocked, phone lists and information remain on the phone.

Software

Software companies offer online software that can unlock mobile phones. These companies, including Global Unlock or UnlockMe, allow a user to download the software, which provides an unlock code. Occasionally a fee is involved with the software, but free options are available. Once the software has been downloaded, the user must e-mail the International Mobile Equipment Identity number, which is specific to each mobile phone. An unlock code will be generated to unlock the phone. Although many options are available for unlocking software, beware of fraudulent companies. Unlocking software might also not work with some newer phones.

Calling provider

The service provider often will provide the code to unlock a phone. Users must call the provider to speak to an operator, and request an unlock code for the mobile phone. Generally, the code is free, but sometimes a fee is involved. A provider might also require time before the unlock code is given. This is especially common in post-paid plans and could take as long as 12-months to resolve. Once the provider has given the unlock code, enter the code into the phone. The phone will unlock and will be ready for use on a different network.

Call Forwarding Options

Call forwarding is a feature provided for mobile, voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) and landline phone service providers that allows the user to redirect his incoming calls to an alternative phone. Access to call forwarding may require a monthly subscription with fees that vary from provider to provider. There are different options provided with call forwarding which allow users to set a variety of forwarding options.

Mobile Phone

Mobile phone providers offer call forwarding features including unconditional or immediate call forwarding, which forwards all phone calls to the alternate number provided. Busy call forwarding redirects calls only when your phone line is busy. No answer or no reply call forwarding sends calls to an alternative phone number when you don't answer your phone or if the phone line is busy.

Landline Phone

Landline service providers offer unconditional call forwarding or selective call forwarding. Unconditional call forwarding allows you to forward all your phone calls to an alternative landline or mobile phone number. Selective call forwarding allows you to create a list of calls that will be forwarded to the number you designate.

VoIP Phone

VoIP phone providers offer call forwarding options similar to landline phone providers, including the option to forward all calls or to select specific calls to forward. Providers such as Vonage and MagicJack allow users to log in to their online accounts and set up call forwarding from their computers. You can log in from any computer to access your online account to set up your call forwarding.

Broadband users can log in to their online accounts to set up call forwarding to a specific phone number for all calls or a call list. Access to online call forwarding may vary based on your broadband account.

Recover A Deleted Mobile Phone Text Message

Sometimes you delete a text message on your cell phone by accident, or delete it without realizing you'll need it again later. Normally, you can't get the message back on your own. But if you use some downloadable software, a recovery program can help you find your deleted message and get access to it again.

Text Recovery

Download a program that can help you recover the deleted text message (Digital Media Recovery, for example). Download and install the program by clicking on the "Download" link and then opening the installation file. You can use the program to hook up your cell phone and find lost data on it, including previously deleted text messages.

File Manager

You can also try a program such as FE Explorer for Series 60 phones (See Resources). After you download and install this particular software, it will allow you to launch your phone's drive and see what it still files has stored on it. You can also look through any memory cards inside the phone. Once you find the text you want, you can restore and view it.

Service Providers

You can also try calling your service provider and asking for access to the texts you sent or received on your phone, as your provider often stores this information is often stored in its archive. You may at times need to go a legal route to actually access the texts that you want, so try it only after program methods have failed to work.

Pair With More Than One Bluetooth Receiver

Certain headsets can connect to two devices simultaneously.

Bluetooth devices that have a display, such as a mobile phone or a Bluetooth-enabled computer, can easily connect to multiple devices. However, certain devices like a headset are a bit more complicated to use with multiple devices at once. Headsets originally were designed for connecting to a single device; if you wanted to change to a second device, you had to go through the entire pairing process again. Recently, Bluetooth headsets have started to come with technology that allows the headset to be connected to two receivers simultaneously.

Instructions

Press "OK" or "Done" to complete the pairing process.

4. Turn the first device and the headset off.

5. Place the headset back into pairing mode using the same method that you used before.

6. Search for Bluetooth devices on the second device. Choose your headset from the list of nearby Bluetooth devices and enter the same passcode as before. Press "OK" or "Done" to complete the pairing process.

7. Turn the first device back on while the second is connected to the headset. Your headset will automatically connect to the first device and is now connected to both devices simultaneously.

Use My Wifi Laptop

A laptop equipped with Wi-Fi technology lets you connect to the Internet from any remote location within range of a Wi-Fi wireless network. You don't need any cables to plug into ethernet ports or phone jacks to secure Internet access. This enables you to take your laptop to any location with public Wi-Fi access, meaning a wireless network not security-encrypted to prevent unauthorized access. You'll find free Wi-Fi access at many businesses that cater to lingering customers, such as coffee shops, bakeries and motels. Just follow these steps to use your Wi-Fi laptop and transform the corner coffee shop into your own office.

Instructions

1. Power up the laptop and wait for the main screen to appear.

2. Turn on the laptop's Wi-Fi switch, typically located on the left or right edge of the laptop near the front of the computer. Look for a small, sliding switch.

3. View the wireless networks in range of your laptop by double clicking on the Wi-Fi icon in the lower right-hand corner of your laptop screen. The icon resembles a computer monitor with three curved lines, like radio waves, emanating from the side.

4. Check the list of available wireless networks and select the network with the strongest signal. The signal strength is represented by several bars next to the name of each network. The more bars you see, the stronger the signal. Choose a network that you can access---either your own Internet connection at home or the office, or the Wi-Fi wireless network connection available for free in some restaurants, coffee shops, motels and other businesses that offer Wi-Fi to their customers.

5. Select a wireless network and click the "Connect" button.

6. Enter the code for accessing the network if prompted to do so. For example, if you are staying at a motel that offers Wi-Fi access to guests, the code will be supplied to you at check-in, or you can call the front desk to obtain it. Most systems require you to enter the code twice.

7. Wait for the window to display a message that the Wi-Fi is connected.

8. Open your Web browser, such as Internet Explorer or Firefox.

Configure A Bluetooth Hands Free Headset

Configure a Bluetooth Hands Free Headset

The term "Bluetooth" refers to a wireless way to communicate using your cellphone. A phone and a headset are connected to each other via a strong, secure short range radio signal called a "Bluetooth" signal. This allows people to talk on their phones while still having complete use of both of their hands. This is ideal for situations like driving, where taking a call can be dangerous.

Instructions

1. Go into the "Bluetooth" settings menu on your cell phone. On most cell phones, this can be found by selecting the "Settings" icon in your phone's main menu. If your phone is Bluetooth compatible, a menu selection with the word "Bluetooth" in it will appear. Select this by highlighting it with the arrow keys on your phone and pressing the "OK" or "Enter" (whichever your model of phone has) button.

2. Put your Bluetooth Hands Free Headset in "Discovery" mode. This will send out a short range Bluetooth signal to any compatible devices within range. To do this, press and hold the button located on the side of your headset until the headset's indicator light glows a solid color.

3. Put your cell phone in "Discovery" mode. From the Bluetooth menu on your phone, this will search for any Bluetooth devices in the immediate area; in this case, your Bluetooth Hands Free Headset.

4. Select your Bluetooth Hands Free Headset from the list of compatible devices your phone is able to locate. Unless you are standing very near to another Bluetooth device, your headset will be the only device it finds. Select it by pressing the "OK" or "Enter" button on your phone. Your phone and your headset are now connected and can be used concurrently.

Information On Prepaid Cell Phones

Prepaid phones offer users peace of mind.

There are thousands of types of mobile phones, however, there are really only two choices when it comes to how you'll pay for your service. Postpaid phones are the traditional option, with consumers receiving a monthly bill and typically signing a one- or two-year commitment. The other choice is prepaid. Prepaid phones can be a cost-effective option for those who need a phone for minimal use, or are turned off by the idea of a commitment.

Prepaid

Prepaid mobile phones are sometimes referred to as "pay as you go" or "contract-free" phones. They are the alternative to postpaid plans, and users are not required to sign a contract or commit to a monthly bill. Minutes are purchased in advance, and the prepaid phone ceases to work once the minutes have all been used or expire, whichever comes first. Activating a prepaid phone does not require the user to supply personal information, as there are no monthly bills or credit checks.

Benefits

Prepaid service can be a logical choice for consumers who want a mobile phone but don't like the idea of a contract. Contracts often charge consumers hefty termination fees if they are canceled early, and are generally one to two years in length. A person who only needs a phone for a short amount of time would save money by choosing a prepaid device rather than postpaid. There is also no worry of overage charges for exceeding your allotted minutes, as prepaid phones cease to work when minutes are used up. Additionally, acquiring a prepaid phone does not require a credit check. This can be beneficial to people with poor credit history or minor children who want a phone but don't meet the requirements of postpaid providers.

Drawbacks

Prepaid phones can offer peace of mind, but they do have some limitations over their postpaid counterparts. Not all the features and services available with postpaid plans are offered to prepaid consumers. Things like roadside assistance and insurance for lost, damaged or stolen phones are typically only offered when you have a contract. There is usually a smaller selection of phones as well, and the deep discounts offered to customers when signing a contract is not available on prepaid phones. It may also be difficult to get assistance in person with phone issues, as most retailers who sell prepaid devices do not service or activate them. Prepaid users usually must call a toll-free number or access a website for troubleshooting.

Suggested Users

Prepaid phones are recommended for consumers with a low credit rating because they do not require a credit check. A prepaid phone also works well for a minor child, as it eliminates the danger of a high bill. Additionally, a lost prepaid phone is not as much of a worry as a post paid phone is; as there is no risk of being billed for fraudulent charges. Elderly consumers who only want a phone to use for emergencies are also candidates for prepaid devices.

Choosing

A number of providers sell prepaid devices, including Metro PCS, Virgin Mobile, TracFone and AT&T's Go Phone. One of the most important things to consider when choosing a provider is coverage. Visit carriers' websites to view their coverage maps, and remember to check your home address, your route to and from work and places you travel. You should also consider how often you want to replenish your phone's minutes. Some providers require you to add minutes every 30 days, while others allow you to go 90 days or more before adding airtime. You should also know how you plan on replenishing your account. If you want the convenience of adding minutes online, for example, make sure the provider you choose offers this feature.

Simple Weather Instruments To Make

You can make simple weather instruments to predict the weather.

Meteorologists use weather instruments to determine temperature, wind speed and direction, atmospheric (barometric) pressure, humidity and the amount of any rain or snow. They use this information to predict upcoming weather conditions. You can make simple weather instruments from easy-to-find materials to help you learn about the weather. Record your data and compare them to the weather information in the newspaper, on the Internet, or on the radio or TV. Although these weather instruments are simple, they can be surprisingly accurate.

Anenometer

The speed of the wind is measured using an anemometer. To make a simple anemometer, you need 16 inches of thin fishing line, pingpong ball, large plastic protractor, red permanent marker or red nail polish, small self-adhesive spirit level and hot glue gun.

Knot one end of the fishing line. Use a small bit of glue to attach the knotted end to the pingpong ball. Tie the other end of the fishing line around the center of the flat portion of the protractor. Mark the fishing line where it crosses the measurements on the protractor with the red marker or nail polish to make it more visible. Attach the spirit level to the flat portion of the protractor. Use the anemometer in an area where the wind is not blocked by large buildings, trees or bushes. Hold the protractor away from your body with the curved side down. Level the anemometer using the spirit level. Don't touch the fishing line. As the wind blows, it will move the pingpong ball. Determine the speed by reading the angle on the protractor where the fishing line is. Convert the angles to speed using this table: 90 degrees = 0 mph; 80 degrees = 13.2 mph; 70 degrees = 18.9 mph; 60 degrees = 23.8 mph; 50 degrees = 28.8 mph; 40 degrees = 34.2 mph; 30 degrees = 41.3 mph; 20 degrres = 52 mph.

Barometer

Barometers measure the rise or fall of atmospheric pressure. Changes in atmospheric pressure indicate a change in weather. To make a simple barometer, you need a glass jar, rubber band that fits snugly around the mouth of the jar, large balloon, plastic drinking straw, small piece of modeling clay, straight pin, adhesive tape, instant adhesive glue, ruler, fine-tip permanent black marker, scissors and manila folder.

Cut off the open end of the balloon. Stretch the remainder of the balloon over the mouth of the jar. Secure the balloon with the rubber band around the jar's rim to make an airtight seal. Cut the straw to a 6 inch length. Take a piece of clay large enough to plug one end of the straw and roll it into a small ball. Push the straight pin through the center of the clay ball. Push the clay into the end of the straw with the pin facing out. Glue the open end of the straw to the center of the balloon. The pin end of the straw will hang over the edge of the jar. Open the manila folder and mark a scale vertically on the right-hand side with lines 1/2 centimeter apart. At the bottom of the scale, write "Low Pressure." At the top of the scale, write "High Pressure." Stand the folder up on the table and position the jar so the pin end of the straw is close to the scale but does not touch it. High pressure will press down on the balloon and make the straw rise. Low pressure will push up on the balloon and make the straw fall.

Rain Gauge

A rain gauge measures the amount of rainfall or snowfall for a given amount of time. To make a simple rain gauge, you need a straight-sided glass container such as a narrow beaker, ruler, permanent black fine-tip marker, thin wire, wooden dowel (optional) and hammer (optional).

Mark a measuring scale on the glass container using the ruler and marker. Choose an area for the rain gauge outside where it will not be blocked by anything overhead. Attach the rain gauge to a fence post by wrapping the wire around the gauge and the post several times. If using the dowel, hammer it into the ground. Attach the rain gauge to the dowel by wrapping the wire around the dowel and rain gauge several times. After rain or a snowfall, read the amount of precipitation in the gauge. Empty the gauge before using it again.

Wind Vane

Wind vanes indicate the direction the wind is coming from. To make a simple wind vane, you need a disposable aluminum pie pan, wooden ruler, small saw, wooden dowel about the diameter of a broomstick, small wooden bead, a nail, hammer, scissors, instant adhesive glue, magnetic compass and fine-tip permanent black marker.

Cut a large triangle from the base of the aluminum pie pan. Cut the triangle in half parallel to the base of the triangle to make a smaller triangle and a trapezoid. Use the saw to cut a ½-inch vertical slit in the center of each end of the wooden ruler. At the exact center of the ruler, make a hole with the nail. The hole should be wide enough to easily spin the ruler around the nail. Glue the aluminum triangle (arrowhead) into the vertical slit at one end of the ruler, and the trapezoid into the remaining vertical slit. Allow the glue to dry. Thread the nail through the hole in the center of the ruler and through the hole in the wooden bead. Hammer the nail into one end of the dowel, leaving enough room to allow the ruler to move freely. Use the compass to identify and mark the directions (N, S, E, W) on the dowel. Place the wind vane in an area where the wind is not blocked by buildings or large trees. The direction the wind is blowing from will be the direction the arrowhead is pointing.

The Advantages & Disadvantages Of The Nokia E51

Nokia's E51 smartphone has a slim design and Wi-Fi compatibility, but lacks a front-facing camera for videoconferencing and produces below-average picture quality. As with any electronics device, you should take the E51's advantages and disadvantages into consideration before pulling the trigger on the purchase.

Memory

With just 130MB of built-in memory, adding memory to the Nokia E51 is more of an eventuality than a possibility. The phone comes with a built-in microSD card slot for up to 16GB of expanded memory. The device supports microSD cards, which are available in an assortment of capacities up to 2GB, and microSDHC cards, which are produced in capacities between 2GB and 32GB. With this much room for expansion, not to mention the diversity of card possibilities, the E51 is well-suited to handle the addition of large-scale files, such as music and videos.

Battery Life

One of the E51's biggest disadvantages is its battery life. A standard lithium-polymer battery provides the phone with up to 4.4 hours of talk time and up to 312 hours -- 13 days -- of standby time. Compared to similar devices on the market at the time of publication, these times rank below the seven-hour average for talk time and the 437-hour average for standby time. Since the phone was released in 2007, you're likely to get even shorter battery times, especially if the phone contains its original battery. You can help prolong the phone's battery life by minimizing the display screen's brightness level and shortening its sleep mode timer.

Camera and Messaging

The E51 is equipped with a 2-megapixel camera that captures still images at resolutions up to 1,600 by 1,200 pixels and captures video at 320 by 240 pixels. Digital zoom gives the phone added photographic functionality. The phone supports mobile email through connections to a SMTP, POP3 or IMAP4 server and instant messaging through third-party clients such as Yahoo!, AOL and Microsoft. You can also send and receive text, voice, video and picture messages using the phone's multimedia messaging function. The phone does lack push email, which delivers incoming email directly to the phone and does not require you to log in and manually check for new messages.

Miscellaneous

The Nokia E51 accesses the 2G network using GSM technology on the 850, 900, 1,800 and 1,900 frequency bands, making it a quad-band phone that is capable of accessing 2G networks worldwide. The phone also connects to the 3G network using HSDPA technology on the 850 and 2,100 frequencies and is Wi-Fi compatible. Using the phone's Wi-Fi feature will provide you with data transfer speeds of up to 54 megabits per second, which is considerably faster than HSDPA's rate of 3.6 Mbps. Using the phone's Wi-Fi can also save you from using your data plan's monthly data allotment.

What Type Of Memory Card Does The Samsung Dualview Tl225 Use

MicroSD cards are smaller versions of standard SD cards.

The DualView TL225 is a compact digital camera made by Samsung. The DualView TL225 only has about 55 MB of internal memory, which won't hold very many pictures. To alleviate this problem, consider using a MicroSD or MicroSDHC flash memory card, the two formats supported by the DualView TL225 digital camera.

MicroSD and MicroSDHC

MicroSD cards come in capacities of 2GB or smaller and they will all work in your DualView TL225. MicroSDHC cards range in size from 4GBs to 32GBs, though the camera can only use MicroSDHC cards up to 8GB. Though they're both the same physical size, the enhanced storage capacity of the MicroSDHC cards means you'll be able to store far more pictures on a larger capacity MicroSDHC than a 2GB MicroSD card.

Inserting the Card

The DualView TL225's MicroSD slot is on the bottom of the camera. If you're looking at the camera's screen, the slot is on the right side of the bottom, in the same housing the battery is stored in. To access the slot, slide the battery access lock and open the hatch. The memory card's golden contacts should face upward when inserting the card from this angle. With the gold contacts going in first, push the card in until you feel it snap into place. To remove it, simply press it further into the slot until it clicks again before pulling it free with your fingers.

Capacities

The DualView TL225's manual includes rough estimates for how many pictures and how many minutes of video you can store on a 1GB MicroSD card. The graph displays options for every quality setting on the camera. For example, pictures shot with the "12m" 4000-by-3000 pixel option at the "Super Fine" quality level fill up 1GB with 145 pictures. Using the "Normal" quality and "12m" setting, you can store 399 pictures on 1GB. To get an idea of how many your card can hold, multiply Samsung's 1GB capacity figures by the capacity of your card. If you have an 8GB card, you'd multiply the number of pictures Samsung lists by 8, since your card has 8 times the capacity of the one used for Samsung's estimations.

Considerations

Samsung's official specifications for the camera don't specifically say it reads MicroSDHC cards but standard MicroSD cards are limited to 2GB. Despite Samsung's official specifications, reviews from CNET.com and PCMag.com all affirm that the device reads MicroSDHC cards. Neither a MicroSD or MicroSDHC card comes with the camera so you'll have to purchase the card separately. Samsung's official specifications also say the camera reads cards up to 48GB in capacity. MicroSDHC cards only go up to 32GB so this is likely a typo where they meant to say "8GB," notes CNET's Joshua Goldman in his October 2009 review.

Activate A Sim Card For An Unlocked Phone

When you unlock a cell phone that uses GSM technology -- in other words, it has a SIM card -- you can use the device on any carrier by inserting that carrier's SIM card into it. If you haven't yet activated service with your desired carrier, insert the SIM into the device. Then, activate the new line of service by contacting your new wireless provider and supplying them with the unlocked phone's IMEI serial number. You can contact your provider through their website, over the phone or in person at a retail store.

Instructions

1. Pop the new SIM card out of the larger sheet of plastic it comes in. Save the piece of plastic, which contains the SIM card's serial number.

2. Remove the phone's battery and pop open the metal tray above its existing SIM card. Remove the SIM card and replace it with the new SIM card. Write down the phone's 15-digit IMEI serial number, located on the underside of the battery or, in some cases, above the SIM tray, and replace the battery.

3. Point your Web browser to the activation site specified on the SIM card's packaging. Enter the SIM card's serial number, the device's IMEI number and the carrier activation code, if there is one. Follow the carrier's instructions for activating your phone via the Web, which may involve submitting your Social Security number for a credit check if you want postpaid contract service.

4. Dial the designated customer service phone number for the carrier to which the SIM belongs if you prefer to have a trained professional guide you through the process. If you use AT&T or T-Mobile, for example, this number is 611. Dial "0" to speak to an operator, who can activate the phone for you.

5. Visit a retail store for the cell phone provider whose SIM is in the device if you prefer that someone handle the activation for you in person. Inform the representative that you would like to activate service, and provide him with the device serial number you wrote down, as well as the 20-digit SIM card serial number written on the larger sheet of plastic from which you removed the SIM.

Ways To Improve Morale At Work

Increase morale at your office.

Whether you're an attorney, janitor or retail sales manager, you don't want to work in a hostile or stilted work environment. There are techniques you can use to improve morale and encourage employees to re-engage in the workplace. While you might not change your work environment overnight, you can implement three changes that will move you in the right direction.

Reward Good Behavior

Reward employees for quality work. A decrease in morale may be the result of despondency, boredom or feelings of inadequacy. Combat negative thinking with written positive feedback and incentive schemes such as gift certificates or paid vacation days. Spark the attention of the office by unveiling a companywide program to acknowledge those employees who demonstrate high productivity and performance. Offer tips for "make the list" and acknowledge the selected employees at monthly or bimonthly office meetings.

Elicit Feedback

Ask for feedback about morale and ways to improve it. Demonstrate a willingness to listen to the feedback by acknowledging selected tips and comments and implementing a plan to execute them. For example, if an employee requests company-sponsored weekend events, start a volleyball team or bowling league. Doing so will demonstrate a willingness to listen as well as a provide staffers with a social activity that can create bonds in the office.

Add Comforts to the Workplace

Make changes to the dress code if possible. If upscale business attire must prevail Mondays through Thursday, allow business casual for Fridays. Other changes can also increase morale, such as providing doughnuts or nonalcoholic specialty drinks during meetings and allowing staffers to listen to office-friendly music. The idea is to boost morale by adding comforts and treats that can rev up energy and allow staffers to feel more comfortable at work.
