Install Ovi Maps On The Htc Desire

Ovi was formerly the name for Nokia's maps and app store services.

Nokia has included a map and GPS application on its phones and smartphones since 2006. The service is free to download for Nokia users who do not already have it on their phones. Whether you want to walk to a strip mall, take a drive out of town or find the nearest bus stop, Ovi Maps may be the solution. However, it is only offered on Nokia phones-not on the HTC Desire.

Background

Nokia Maps, formerly known as Ovi Maps, is the default GPS and mapping application on phones manufactured by Nokia. The HTC Desire is an Android-based smartphone that is available on local cellular networks, such as U.S. Cellular and Cellcom in the United States. Because it is an Android phone, it does not use a Nokia operating system. The HTC Desire is also not able to connect to Nokia's Ovi app store or software update service to download the original app or map updates. Thus, Nokia Maps is not compatible with the HTC Desire, nor can you install the application on any HTC phone because the company does not make devices with Nokia software.

Online Alternatives

While you cannot install Nokia Maps to your HTC device, you can use Google Maps, the default maps app that comes with Android devices for navigation and directions. Like the Web-based version, Google Maps allows you to search for types of businesses near your location and navigate to and from those locations. You can input an address or GPS coordinates for turn-by-turn or voice navigation and save locations for use in the future. Google maps does not integrate with third-party social networks, but you can also join Google Latitude to update people on your current location. Sygic apps are compatible with Android devices as well and offer the same or similar services as Nokia Maps. You can download individual or map packs for a fee. For example, at time of publication, the USA map costs approximately $28 dollars, while the Asia, Africa, Europe and America pack costs over $110 dollars.

Offline Alternatives

If you are looking for a navigation app for your Android phone and want to avoid data usage, you can consider an app that allows you to download maps for use offline, like Nokia Maps does. MapDroyd is one such app that relies on the MicroMap format to compress the maps and save them to your phone. Map data is compiled from OpenStreetMaps, an online service similar to Google Maps. You can browse the server to determine which maps you would like to download, saving room on your phone or memory card. During use, the app will rotate the maps and use any angle required, according to your position or that of your phone, depending on the setting you use. MapDroyd is available for free from the Android Market.

Considerations

If you are a fan of the Nokia Maps application but do not have a Nokia device, you can still use it in your Web browser, similar to Google Maps. Nokia Maps allows you to search for locations and businesses and get directions. You can view the maps in satellite and terrain or, if you install the compatible plugin, in 3D mode. When available, Nokia Maps will provide information about public transportation options and live traffic feeds. As of publication time, Nokia Maps does not contain as much information as Google Maps, so you may not be able to find as many destinations.

My Flash Player Won'T Download

You may have to troubleshoot problems that occur with your computer's Adobe Flash Player.

Flash movie files are used throughout the Internet. These files allow you to watch the video content without actually downloading the video (this is because it streams to your computer while the video plays). An Adobe Flash Player must be installed on your computer.

However, if the player is not downloading, you need to troubleshoot the issue in order to correctly download and play flash video files.

Instructions

1. Close out all Internet programs while downloading the Adobe Flash Player. This program updates your computer's Internet software. Updates are not possible if any programs are open.

2. Check your Internet connection. If the cable connecting your computer to the Internet modem is not inserted completely into either port, your computer won't be able to download anything, including the flash player.

3. Navigate to the system control panel. Choose the "Internet Options" icon. Once there, choose the firewall settings. Select the "Exceptions" list and click "Browse." Choose your Internet browser and add it to the exceptions list. This now allows you to download programming with your Internet browser.

4. Select the correct operating system when downloading the software. If you select the wrong operating system, the flash player software won't download to your computer.

Nokia 6500 Classic Tips

The Nokia 6500 is a candy bar-style mobile phone released in 2009. The 6500 has a small feature list, including 1GB of internal memory, Bluetooth compatibility and a 2 megapixel camera. Although it doesn't have all of the features of many high-end mobile phones, the 6500 is fine for consumers who regularly need to make phone calls and send messages.

Voice Dialing

The 6500 allows users to create a voice command for dialing specific contacts. The user records the name of the contact and then assigns the voice command to the contact's number. This feature is especially useful when using a hands-free device, such as a headset. To record the contact's name, select "Menu," "Settings," "Phone," "Voice Recognition" and "Recognition Lang." After recording the name, you will be prompted to assign it to one of your contacts. Make sure you are in a quiet environment when recording the voice command, and to use a full name.

When you want to make a call, repeat the voice command exactly as you recorded it into the phone.

Shortcuts

You can save functions that you use regularly to the two soft keys on the keypad, located under the screen. This can save you from navigating through several menus to use a feature. For example, if you send a lot of text messages, you can set the left or right soft key so that it opens the text messaging menu. To set a shortcut key, select "Menu," "Settings," "My Shortcuts" and "Left Selection Key" or "Right Selection Key." A list of the phone's functions will pop up on the screen. Using the navigation buttons, select a function to apply it to the soft key.

Backup

The 6500 allows you to create backups of the data saved on your phone. This is useful if you want to keep a list of your contact information on a remote server, in case there is a malfunction with your phone and you lose your data. Your data will be stored on a remote server, and you can access it according to login information you set up. To back up your data, select "Menu," "Settings" and "Sync and Backup." You will be given a choice to back up your data to another phone or to a remote server. Choose the remote server and select "OK." You should back up your contact list often if you regularly change or add to the list.

Open A Cell Phone Store

The cell phone business might require some initial investment, but if you start it up correctly, it also delivers you respectable profits. After making an accurate business plan with a marketing specialist and your business partner, you can start planning where you shop will be and how you will stock it to suit your particular location.

Instructions

1. Plan your cell phone business in detail with small business experts. By creating a plan to get from Point A to Point B, you will also be able to estimate the budget required as well as what kind of other expenses you should expect.

2. Visit banks, credit unions and the Small Business Administration to inquire about and procure a loan (see Resources). Apply to obtain the needed funds to start a cell phone store, which will require you to provide your tax forms, credit card statements, proof of assets and bank statements, among other variable documentation.

3. Wait for loan approval. Once this arrives and you know you have the start-up funds required, you can obtain a business license via application to the proper state office. The forms for this license are available online, and you will be required to pay a fee (see Resources).

4. Shop for your new cell phone store location. Compare prices with different Realtors, and drive around the city to look for independently owned and managed buildings for rent.

5. Review your rental contract carefully before signing to start your cell phone business. Be sure that the terms are ideal for you, and consider hiring a lawyer to review the contract prior to agreeing.

6. Purchase your inventory. Don't forget that besides the newest models of cell phones, pay-as-you-go and cell phone accessories can be quite lucrative. By making agreements directly with specific cell phone companies for deals, new releases, and special model announcements, you will have a competitive edge in your area.

7. Plan your grand opening complete with special promotional packages, deals and "limited time only" sales. Don't let the word of mouth be your only form of advertising, and use flyers and classifieds announcements

Wifi & 3g Mobile Hotspot Differences

A mobile Wi-Fi hotspot gives you Internet access when away from home.

Wi-Fi is a narrow range of radio frequencies. Radio frequencies provide us with many of our daily conveniences, including radio, television and microwave ovens. Mobile Internet connectivity is perhaps the latest trend in radio communications, embodied by the 3G hotspots that are trumpeted by the major cell phone manufacturers, but 3G is a hardware standard, whereas Wi-Fi is a wireless connection to the Internet.

Hotspot Defined

A hotspot is an access point that offers Internet access over a wireless local area network (LAN) through the use of a router connected to a link to an Internet service provider. Hotspots typically use Wi-Fi technology. 3G and 4G cell phones may use Wi-Fi, but 3G and 4G denote hardware advances rather than radio communication speed. 3G cell phones, however, can use a combination of third generation cell phone technology and wireless Internet functionality.

Wi-Fi Hotspots

The individual Wi-Fi hotspot is small enough to fit in a shirt pocket.

According to the Wi-Fi Alliance, "Wi-Fi networks operate in the 2.4 and 5 GHz radio bands, with some products that contain both bands (dual band)." Wi-Fi signals have a range of 300 feet. The 2.4 GHz transmission speeds are rated as B, G or N, representing data transmission rates of 11, 54 and 450 megabytes per second (Mbps), respectively. Wi-Fi hotspots are found in fast food outlets, airports, public libraries and other locations throughout the U.S. Individual transmitter hotspots are also offered by the major cell phone retailers. These allow, after login verification, a specified number of computers or other Wi-Fi enabled devices to share an Internet gateway.

3G Hotspots

3G is shorthand for "third generation" mobile telecommunications, a newer, faster transmission standard of mobile devices. A new generation of cellular standards has been developed approximately every 10 years since 1G systems were first offered for sale in 1983 with the introduction of the Motorola DynaTAC 8000X. Nicknamed "the Brick" due to its size, it retailed for $3,995. 3G hotspots use vast refinements of this technology to accelerate the speed and size of wireless communications downloads and uploads.

Smart Phones and Hotspots

Smart phones combine cell service with higher frequency Wi-Fi connections.

Various brands of smart phones bundle their own hotspot capability into the phone's features. Just like the separate Wi-Fi hotspot hardware, these phones allow a specified number of verified laptops, desktop computers and smart phones to share an Internet connection. Verification consists of a login and password that the smart phone's hotspot recognizes.

Use Nokia N95 Maps

The Nokia N95 smartphone was designed by the Nokia company to be a fully functional multimedia center available in your pocket. The N95 boasts a number of features, including a 5-megapixel camera featuring Carl Zeiss optics and a 30-frames-per-second video recording system. One of the handiest features may be the free map system, supported by a built-in global positioning system (GPS). Using the maps feature is as easy as using the phone.

Instructions

Accessing the Maps Application

1. Locate the ring button with a symbol that looks like a ring with one black and one white circle on the left and right sides, respectively.

2. Press the ring button and select "Maps" from the menu.

3. Look over the Maps application. The display should show your current location on the map and have a number of additional options available to expand the functionality of your Maps application.

7. Zoom out to view a larger area on your map. The "*" button zooms in, and the "#" zooms out. As you zoom, eventually you will be able to move to different maps, ranging in size from your city to a state, country or, even, an international map. All maps are downloaded automatically for free, although data transmission fees may apply.

Searching for Locations

8. Select "Options" in the Maps application, then "Search." From here, you will be given several search options.

9. Select a search option to use to find a location. You can search by category, name or address.

If searching by address, select "By Address." You must know which city and country you are searching. Enter the address to find a precise location. You can search for addresses in your contact list by selecting "Options" from the "Search By Address" display and "Select from Contacts."

Planning a Route

11. From the Maps application's first screen, select "Options," then "Plan route." Select the start and end points of the route.

12. Select "Options," then "Settings" and "Routing." This will allow you to fine-tune the route settings to account for mode of transportation and other variables.

13. Select "Options," then "Show route" to view the route itinerary. Itinerary waypoints can be viewed on the map by selecting "Options," then "Show on map."

14. Select "Options," then "Start simulation" to run a simulation of the planned route.

15. Select "Options," then "Start tracking" to track your current position in relation to the route.

Troubleshoot Power Windows

Many vehicles with power windows have the convenience of a master control switch at the driver’s side that lowers or raises windows, and possibly an extra switch that disables individual window control switches. The control circuit provides a reversible motor--and usually a relay--plus a fuse or breaker for each window circuit, in addition to the general relay and circuit breaker or fuse. This setup allows other windows to operate even when electrical or mechanical problems disable one of the windows. These steps will help you locate the problem, whether one or all the power windows in your vehicle seem stuck. You need very basic understanding of electricity or the desire to learn basic troubleshooting procedures.

Instructions

1. Turn the ignition on but don’t start the engine. Operate the windows from the master control switch. If none of the windows work, check the main fuse or breaker for the whole power window circuit. If only one of the windows is inoperative, go to Step 3.

2. Check the main circuit relay using a test light. If voltage is coming out of the relay, there is an open or short at the wire feeding power to the other switches. If no voltage is coming out of the relay, use the test light to make sure voltage is reaching the relay. If voltage is reaching the relay, replace it. If there is no voltage reaching the relay, there is an open or short at the wire between the relay and the main fuse.

3. Check the circuit fuse or breaker at the inoperative window. If the fuse or breaker is okay, go to the next step. If you can hear a humming sound as you press the switch but the window does not operate, either the motor is bad or its gearbox may have broken teeth. Go to Step 7.

4. Turn the ignition on but don’t start the engine. Using a multimeter, check the master control lockout switch for continuity. If there is no continuity, replace the lockout switch. With some vehicle models, problems at the lockout switch can cause both rear windows to fail.

5. Try the switch at the inoperative window and check for continuity using a voltmeter. If there is no continuity, replace the switch.

6. Check for voltage at the switch using a test light. If voltage is not reaching the switch, there is an open or short between the incoming wire and the fuse or breaker for that circuit power window.

7. Take off the trim panel from the inoperative window. Check for voltage at the motor with a test light while pressing the switch. If there is no voltage, there is a short or open at the wire between the switch and the motor. If the circuit is equipped with a relay, test for voltage reaching and coming out the relay. Make sure the relay is working properly. If voltage is reaching the motor, go to the next step.

8. Detach the window from the regulator and inspect the regulator mechanism by moving the window up and down by hand. Make sure nothing restrains the mechanism. Also, inspect the motor gearbox. Replace any parts as necessary.

Manage Voip

VoIP is a phone option for businesses and homes.

VoIP, otherwise known as Voice Over Internet Protocol, is a type of Internet phone option. Businesses and personal phone uses are turning to VoIP phone options as a way to minimize costs and maximize phone usage needs. While it has benefits, such as lower costs and usage around the world by carrying VoIP adaptors, VoIP requires careful management to minimize VoIP problems like jitter or dropped calls.

Instructions

1. Prioritize calls over VoIP. When too many calls are made at the same time over a VoIP network, the calls start to drop, do not have enough bandwidth and create problems. By prioritizing calls and making calls a few at a time, the VoIP network is not overwhelmed and information is not lost.

2. Ask callers about their experience with the service. Always check that both ends are hearing the call accurately and with a minimum delay. VoIP digitizes information and then translates the information to the other phone. As a result, both ends of the phone conversation might not catch everything and there is a potential for lost information. Checking with the other line will minimize problems with lost information.

3. Train workers on both sides of the VoIP network on troubleshoot and use the service. When used in a personal home, VoIP troubleshooting is part of personal experience. When used in businesses, training employees on troubleshooting will lower problems and ensure that the network is always running properly.

4. Obtain a VoIP monitoring tool and set it up. The tool is used to determine normal VoIP standards for the specific network and provides warnings when the network is not working within the normal standards. This makes it easier to determine when there are problems and what the problems are.

Use Internet Phones

Internet based phone services are an efficient way to bypass local telephone companies.

For those who use their phone lines infrequently enough where paying for monthly phone services is not worth the money, it might be a good idea to set up an internet phone. Some of the advantages of using an internet phone service include free calls to other users of that brand of service and the fact that international calls are inexpensive. Using an internet phone is easy to do, and once you learn the basics, you will be able to break free of old fashioned phone lines.

Instructions

1. Download and install the internet phone software of your choice. Internet phone providers often have a link on their official website providing the needed software along with specific instructions for additional help.

2. Install either a headset or compatible telephone device to your PC or phone adapter.

3. Connect to a high-speed DSL or cable internet connection. Your call quality often depends on the strength of the connection to the internet.

4. Select a service plan from your internet phone provider. Some plans are free, such as calls to other service users, while other calls may cost a certain amount per minute.

5. Open the software and input a telephone number. Treat the call like a landline telephone call. End the call by either hanging up the phone device in its cradle or pressing an "end call" button on the internet phone software.

Hook Up Skype To A Tv

More than just a text-based chat application, Skype allows you to engage in free video-chat sessions with other Skype users and make low-cost phone calls to landline and mobile phones. Using your computer to make Skype calls is relatively easy, and relatively small computer displays are sufficient for one-on-one video calls. However, if you want to display the image of your chat partner for a group of people, streaming the video from Skype to a large-screen TV is the way to go. Some expensive, high-end TVs ship with Skype integration already included. However, even with many older TVs, you can still stream Skype video using your desktop or laptop computer.

Instructions

1. Shut down the computer and TV. Look on the rear of the computer and locate the secondary video-out port desktop computer or the external monitor port on a laptop. Older computers usually have white VGA ports, and newer systems have blue DVI ports. Some higher-end systems have an HDMI port that resembles a large USB port.

2. Connect the TV to the video-out port on the computer using a compatible monitor cable. If the video-out port on the computer does not match the input port on the TV, connect the cable to an adapter before connecting it to the TV. You can purchase adapters that allow you to convert VGA to DVI, DVI to VGA, DVI to HDMI and HDMI to DVI. You cannot convert VGA to HDMI or HDMI to VGA.

3. Connect the 3.5mm-to-RCA audio cable to the Line Out port on a desktop computer or the Headphone port on a laptop. Connect the small end of the cable to the computer, and then connect the RCA connectors to Audio-In port that corresponds with the video port to which you connected the computer monitor cable. The video and audio ports on most TVs generally use labels such as Video 1 and Audio 1 or something similar. Therefore, if you connected the monitor cable to Video 2, connect the RCA plugs on the audio cable to Audio 2.

4. Power on the TV first, then the computer. Wait for the computer to boot in to Windows.

5. Right-click the Windows desktop. On the fly-out menu, click "Screen Resolution." Once the Screen Resolution window appears, click the large "Detect" button. Windows detects the TV connection to the computer.

6. Press the "Input" or "Source" button on the TV remote control until the Windows desktop appears on the television screen. The display on the TV and the computer should be identical.

7. Go back to the computer and click the monitor icon in the Screen Resolution window labeled "2." Click the drop-down arrow next to the Multiple Displays then "Extend these displays." Click the "Apply" button, then "OK." Windows displays a blank desktop screen on the television.

8. Connect your webcam to the computer if using a desktop. If using a laptop with a built-in webcam, skip this step. Position the camera so that is pointing at your face.

9. Launch Skype on the computer. Log in with your Skype username and password.

10. Click "Tools" on the Skype menu bar, then "Options." Click the "Video Settings" link. Ensure your face is visible on the webcam preview screen, and then click "Save."

11. Click and hold the title bar at the top of the Skype program window and hold. While continuing to hold down the left mouse button, drag the Skype program window to the right and off the monitor screen. The Skype program window appears on the TV.

12. Double-click the username of a Skype friend in the Contacts column. A chat window for that friend appears. Use Skype to chat with the friend as you normally would. If you engage in a video chat with the friend, his webcam screen is visible on the television.

Make Voip Calls From Your Mobile Phone

Many cell phone devices are now equipped with wireless Internet support. The phone connects to your home or office wireless router and lets you make free VoIP calls. Some of the VoIP applications that can be installed on cell phones are Telfree, Fring and Skype. Telfree and Fring basically let you access any VoIP service on which you may already have an account, for instance Google Talk or Live Messenger, to call your existing contacts for free. Skype is a standalone VoIP service through which you can make free calls to other Skype contacts. Calls made through any of these VoIP services to landline or cellular numbers will first require you to purchase credit from the company website.

Instructions

1. Sign up for a Telfree account. Telfree lets you make low-cost calls to cell phones and landlines in any location in the world (see Resources). However, an added advantage is that if the person you want to call has also signed up for a Telfree account, you can make a free call to him when the person logs in to his Telfree account and is connected to the Internet.

To call cell phones and landlines, log in to your Telfree account after signing up. Then click "Purchase Telfree credit." Enter the phone number you want to dial in the "Call" field after you've purchased Telfree credit. The call will then be connected.

2. Sign up for Fring, if you already have an account on a VoIP service like Skype, Google Talk, Live Messenger or ICQ. Download the Fring application on your cell phone (see Resources). Once you install it on the phone, you can register for a username and password. Then add a VoIP account of your choice to your Fring account. For instance, if you have an existing Skype account, select "Skype" from the list on Fring, and enter your Skype username and password. Fring will then show your Skype contacts who are available online. Next to each contact's name, you will find the option "Call." Select this option to talk to the contact.

3. Download Skype. Install it on your cell phone (see Resources). Sign up by entering a username and password. If you want to make calls to cell phones and landlines, select the option "Purchase Skype Credit" from the menu of the application, and give your credit card details. If you want to make free Skype-to-Skype calls, then simply add the Skype contacts (your friends who've registered on Skype) to your chat list. When they appear online from their computer, you will see the option "Call." Click this option, and you will be connected when the other party receives the call.

Problems With Bluetooth Headsets

Bluetooth headsets allow you to receive calls from a cellphone without talking into a cell phone receiver. Users might incur a few common easily fixed problems during usage.

Headset Not Hooked Up

Most users check the connections first before working out other problems. Make sure all the cords are connected correctly. If the headset still does not function properly, the user can safely assume something else causes the headset not to work.

Cell Phone not Bluetooth Compatible

The symptoms include the devices being connected and charged. If the user still does not hear a dial tone, his cell phone may not be Bluetooth compatible or it may not be synchronized with the cell phone. If a cell phone cannot recognize bluetooth devices, the user can purchase a special kit for his cell phone or purchase a new cell phone.

Headset and Phone Not Synchronized

If the Bluetooth device and the phone are properly connected and charged, a user may need to synchronize the devices to allow them to communicate with each other. Refer to the manual for your headset to learn the correct synchronizing procedure.

Phone or Headset Not Charged

If the cell phone or the headset does not have enough power, the head set will not work.

Defective Headset

Sometimes even if the user checks everything listed above, a Bluetooth headset may still not work. The easiest solution is for a consumer to contact the manufacturer if the headset is still under warranty and see if they will replace it.

Mobile Technology Tutorial

Mobile technology, specifically the type of technology found on mobile phones, has increased at breakneck speeds over the past several decades. Today's phones are capable of using GPS receivers, various forms of Internet connections and numerous data connectivity types. Most of today's phones also come with different keyboard form factors and several types of touchscreen use. When examining mobile phone technology, the options listed above are some of the newest and most important mobile technologies available.

Mobile GPS Receiver Technology

There are two types of GPS technology found on modern mobile phones. The first technology is a built-in GPS Receiver. Built-in receivers typically use a SIRF III chipset that allows phones to find up to 20 GPS satellites at one time, allowing for pinpoint accuracy. Built-in receivers are also low-power systems, ensuring no interference with the devices calling and other functions. The second piece of GPS technology, known as "Assisted GPS" or more commonly "A-GPS," uses the phone's cellular towers to triangulate the user's location to within several feet. A-GPS is much faster in determining a user's exact location than standard GPS and is often used by itself and in conjunction with GPS receivers to provide quick directions almost instantaneously.

Mobile Internet Connections

There are currently four commonly used types of mobile Internet connections. The first option, known as GPRS, is the slowest of available connections at 60kbps. The second type of technology, known as EDGE service, can run at speeds up to 473.6kbps, while 3G speeds are able to reach speeds up to 7.2mbps when used with a technology known as HSDPA (High speed Downlink Packet Access). The final type of technology known as 4G (4th Generation) is currently used in the United States with the names WiMax and LTE (Long Term Evolution) and currently (as of May 2010) features speeds up to 10 times faster than 3G; however, 4G technology is still in the stages of infancy, and download speeds are more commonly closer to 3G technology rates.

Mobile Technology Data Connection Types

Mobile phones can connect to various devices through the use of Bluetooth and USB ports and several different types of headset jacks. Bluetooth technology allows phones to connect Bluetooth headsets, printers and other Bluetooth-enabled devices from up to 30 feet away. It should be noted that Bluetooth technology uses up to three times more power than traditional infrared ports (which are no longer used). Bluetooth-enabled phones can often connect to several devices at one time once "paired" to those devices and require no wires. A second type of connection is USB. USB ports include mini, micro and standard USB 2.0 options, each of which vary in size. USB ports can be used to transfer information between devices (phone-to-phone, computer-to-phone and phone-to-computer) and for charging purposes on many devices. Some USB-enabled phones that do not offer headset jacks also allow for USB-enabled headsets to be used. For audiophiles, users can also find headphone jacks on many popular mobile phones. Headphone jacks come in two sizes 2.5mm (non-standard) and 3.5mm (standard). However, if you are using the wrong size headphone jack, adapters are available to convert your headphone to the correct size.

Keypad and Keyboard Types

Mobile phones currently offer several types of keypad layouts. The standard phone keypad features a standard phone output such as the keypad found on the Motorola Razr; however, many phones also offer full QWERTY keypads, which offer the same keys found on a PC keyboard, placed in the same order as a keyboard. Blackberry also offers a technology known as "SureType" in which two letters are placed on each key and those letters are located in the same QWERTY keyboard locations. The Blackberry Flip line of cell phones are an example of SureType based phone technology. Keyboards may also be featured on the front of the phone or they may offer sliding keyboards that slide or tilt out of the way when not in use, revealing only the phone's screen. An example of a sliding QWERTY keyboard would be the HTC Tilt2, while a front-side keyboard would be the Blackberry 7800.

Resisitive Vs. Capacitive Touchscreen Technology

Resistive technology is an older yet still-used form of mobile touchscreen technology. Resistive screens rely on pressure to determine where a user has touched on a screen; most typically, a stylus is used to provide pinpoint pressure tapping. Resistive technology works because the screen uses several layers of screen depth, as the first layer is pressed it pushes upon another layer, causing a circuit to be completed which notifies the phones OS as to where the user has pressed. Capacitive touchscreen technology is most commonly used with the user's fingertip and uses electrodes to sense when a conductive object has touched the screen (such as a body part). Once the screen has been touched the Capacitive screens X and Y axis senses where the circuit was broken and then tells the phone's OS where the touch occurred. Capacitive technology does not rely on hard screen pressing and will not work with standard plastic or metal stylus pens due to the conductive nature of the screens.

Hang Up A Call In Humor

Learn end a phone call humorously.

Talking on the phone remains a huge factor in building strong relationships and a social life, and ending a phone call in humor helps people feel comfortable. Ending phone calls positively keeps family and friends excited to receive your calls. Whether aiming to impress a new girl or end an argument on a lighter note with your boyfriend or spouse, ending a call in humor leaves a lasting impression. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Act with confidence through the entire call. Likable people tend to exude confidence, making them fun to hang around. Conduct the call from the perspective that what you have to say holds importance, and your listener will remain interested in what you have to say.

2. Tell a joke to liven up your phone call and get your listener laughing. Telling jokes remains one of the best method of entertaining listeners. Recount some of your funniest jokes and practice them prior to your phone call. According to Larry Getlen at Toastmasters International, practicing jokes before the phone call helps nail the punch line. Borrow jokes from others if you have nothing funny to tell. Many individuals borrow their jokes from friends and comedians but give credit to the original jokester.

3. Share a funny story or embarrassing moment to get your listener going. Only relay the essential details to maintain your listener's interest and get to the point of the story.

Enhance certain details to add to the humor of the story. For example, when telling a funny story about sliding into home base during a baseball game, tell your listener how you dove for the base as if diving into a swimming pool. However, avoid embellishing your story as your listener may detect untruthfulness and miss the story's humor.

4. Save the good part of the joke or story for the end. Tell the funny joke or account in the order it happened. Never start with the story's ending. This approach usually results in a you should have been there statement and losing your listener's attention. Surprise your listener with your conclusion by letting him experience the joke or story in the same manner you experienced.

Get A Virus Out Of A Cell Phone

Advanced cell phones can become susceptible to viruses.

If a phone has become unresponsive or is acting erratically, it is possible your device has a virus. A cell phone with a virus may fail to make phone calls, turn off on its own or close applications unexpectedly, and this can be frustrating.

Most basic cell phones do not run the risk of getting viruses, whereas more advanced cell phones, such as smart phones, PDAs or tablet devices are more susceptible to cell phone viruses due to their operating systems. The more complex the phone, the more opportunities it has to contract a cellular virus.

Fortunately, you can remove a virus from a cell phone and return it to working order.

Instructions

Identify the Threat

1. Log your phone's symptoms that le you to believe a virus has infected the device. Be as specific as possible. Include what you were doing on the phone when the phone virus symptoms appeared and a list of any recent changes or downloads you made to the device.

2. Write down any error messages that appear on your cell phone.

3. Locate the make and model of your device. These can be found on the back of your phone under the battery on a sticker or under "phone info" on your device.

4. Search for the error message, or symptoms, and device model number on the cell phone manufacturer's website or your cellular service provider's support website.

Back up Personal Information

5. Download a backup or sync program for your device. These are available from your device manufacturer or cellular service provider.

6. Perform a backup of your contacts, photographs, music and videos. Save these items to a memory card or with a USB cable to a computer that is not infected with a virus and is functioning properly.

7. View or locate files after they are created. Items backed up by your provider may be available on its website after logging into your personal account. Ensure important items are backed up.

Get Rid of the Virus

8. Follow device-specific instructions for resetting your device. This will return your phone to a like-new status and wipe out your personal information, and the virus. This process is sometimes called master resetting your cell phone.

9. Power device back on and test for cell phone virus symptoms.

10. Reactivate your phone and begin restoring your personal data. Add personal items to device individually (first contacts, then photographs, then music, etc.).

11. Test your device for recurring cell phone virus symptoms after restoring each item. If symptoms come back after adding a specific file it may be corrupt and the source of your problem. Remove the item and do not restore it to your phone.

Fur Coat Storage Tips

Lamb fur coat

Fur coats are delicate garments that require a great deal of care when storing. Proper storage can prevent unnecessary wear and tear and extend the life of the coat by years. Choosing the correct storage location and performing regular maintenance is vital to keeping your fur coat safe and pristine. Does this Spark an idea?

Winter Care

Hang your fur coat in a large closet with plenty of excess space during winter months. Use large hangers to prevent other garments from crushing the coat, which can cause damage or matting. Never hang a fur coat in or near sunlight, as oxidization may occur, which can result in color loss. Avoid storing in plastic garment bags, as these confining containers may also mat the fur.

Summer Care

Store your fur coats in a professional storage unit during summer months. Keeping them in an air conditioned room can cause the leather to dry out and will not protect against potential moth damage. If the leather dries out, it can cause excess shedding of the fur. Ensure the storage unit is specifically designed for furs. The temperature in the room should be between 45 and 50 degrees F and maintain a humidity level of at least 50 percent.

Insurance

Check the insurance policy before storing your fur at a professional storage facility. Most storage facilities will offer free insurance, but some will charge a small fee. Read and understand the terms fully to prevent any potential problems. Insure your fur coat on your homeowner's insurance as well. Fur coats are very fragile, and the slightest mistake or accident can ruin them.

Cleaning and Repair

Have your fur coat professionally cleaned before placing in storage. Dust particles that have accumulated on the skin of the coat can absorb the natural oils, hastening the drying process. Dried fur coats crack easily, and can cause shedding. Many fur storage facilities will offer minor repair to coats prior to storing, ensuring the coat is flawless when it enters and exits storage. Always choose a facility that offers this service to alleviate confusion about the cause of damage to a coat when it is removed from storage.

Tips To Reset A Canon Powershot A710is

Most of the PowerShot's settings can be reset.

You can reset several of the attributes on a Canon PowerShot A710 IS. The process can be useful when you need to remove user personalization for shooting or selling purposes. All of the reset options can be accessed by pressing the "Menu" button when the camera is on, while you are looking at the LCD display.

Resetting the Default Settings

Resetting the camera settings to default will return the camera to the state it was in when it was opened from the box. Any custom settings, such as auto focus, zoom and image size, will be lost. This procedure can be useful if you purposely or accidentally changed many settings, which resulted in the camera being unsatisfactory to use.

To reset settings to default, remove the memory card from the camera. Navigate to the "Reset All" option within the main menu. Press the "Set" button.

Resetting the File Number

The A710 offers two file numbering systems: continuous and auto reset. In continuous mode, all photos will be numbered within the context of the camera's lifetime. For example, if the camera has taken 500 photos, the next photo will be labeled 501. In auto reset mode, this number will reset each time a blank memory card is inserted. This function can be useful between periods of shooting to keep track of when each period begins and ends.

To switch to auto reset numbering, navigate to the "File Numbering" option within the main menu .Push the "Set" button. Use the left and right arrows to select between the two options. Press "Set" to apply the change. Insert a blank memory card to start numbering from 1.

Format the Memory Card

For a true reset of the camera, format the memory card as well. Formatting a card erases all the data on a card and initializes it for use by the camera again. The deleted data will not be able to be undone. This procedure, along with the steps in Section 1, will return the camera to its out-of-the-box state, with no settings or data.

Connect To The Internet Through An Infrared Port

Connect to the Internet Through an Infrared Port

Infrared Data Association, or IrDA, refers to technologies involved in the transmission of data between electronic devices through infrared ports. If two IrDA devices, one with Internet access, are connected through their infrared ports, one device will be able to access the Internet through the other device. In this way, an Internet connection can be set up quickly for a computer through a cell phone with Internet access.

Instructions

1. If you haven't already, turn on your computer. Wait until all start-up programs fully load.

2. Plug your USB infrared adapter into one of the USB ports on your computer. Your computer will automatically detect the new hardware and attempt to install drivers. If your computer cannot automatically install drivers for your USB infrared adapter, download driver files manually from the manufacturer's website. If your hardware packaging includes a driver CD, use that to upload driver files.

3. Restart your computer to complete installation. Do not remove the USB infrared adapter.

4. Turn on your IrDA-compatible cell phone. Activate the phone's infrared port. Reference your cell phone's owner's manual if you are unsure of activate the infrared port.

5. Place the cell phone next to the USB infrared adapter. Make sure that the cell phone's infrared port is directly facing the infrared port on the USB adapter, at a distance of no more than three inches.

6. Establish a dial-up Internet connection through the infrared port with the standard network connections program on your computer. In Windows, Network Connections can be accessed through the Control Panel. In Mac OSX, Network Connections are accessible through System Preferences, found in the Apple menu. The infrared connection will be established through one of the COM ports in Network Connections.

Build In A Bluetooth Chip In A Mobile Phone

Bluetooth-enabled mobile phones can free a computer user's hands to type on the keyboard.

Bluetooth technology is increasing in popularity, especially for headsets used to carry on conversations on a mobile phone. Unfortunately, buyers don't have much of an opportunity to customize the functions and features that get included in the final purchase of cell phone. Manufacturers and engineers make those decisions in advance of a product coming to market. The compact, stylish and stealthy design of many Bluetooth headsets are a perfect fit for many mobile phones that are the size of a deck of cards or smaller. If your cellular phone lacks this extra wireless capability, you can easily adapt its existing technology to support Bluetooth connectivity.

Instructions

1. Obtain a Bluetooth adapter compatible with your cell phone. These adapters connect to the headphone jack on a cell phone. The size specifications for these jacks are 2.5mm and 3.5mm. Alternatively, if your cell phone lacks a headphone jack, then find a Bluetooth adapter that is specifically designed to use the charging power port or data port on your cell phone. Examples of brands and models of Bluetooth adapters for cell phones include the "Jabra A210," "Motorola DC600" and the "Cardo BTA II".

2. Plug the Bluetooth adapter into the headphone jack or power port on the mobile phone, according to manufacturer's instructions. This should also put the Bluetooth adapter into pairing mode. You will usually see blue LED lights on the Bluetooth adapter. When the lights blink at a rapid pace, the adapter is in a pairing mode.

3. Turn on your Bluetooth headset and put it into pairing mode, according to manufacturer instructions. The blue lights will blink rapidly on this device as well.

4. Wait and monitor both the Bluetooth adapter attached to your mobile and look at the Bluetooth headset as well. The pairing process is commonly automatic requiring no additional input of a PIN number or settings adjustments by you. When the pace of the blinking lights slows to a moderate pace, that is usually an indicator that pairing is complete.

5. Put the Bluetooth headset on your ear. Place a phone call from your cell to test and determine if your Bluetooth adapter is working properly.

Calculate Nck Codes From Imei Numbers

Unlock your phone to use on a different network with its NCK code.

When you purchase a cell phone from a mobile provider, the phone is likely to be locked so that you cannot use the device on another network. However, your mobile device can be unlocked and used on a different network with the device's unlock code. The unlock code is also known as the "Network Unlock Key," or the "NCK" code. To obtain your device's NCK code, you need the phone's IMEI (unique subscriber identity code). Each phone lists the IMEI in the battery compartment. You can also obtain the IMEI by entering a code.

Instructions

1. Type "* # 0 6 #" into your cell phone to obtain your device's IMEI code. Alternatively, remove the battery cover and battery. Look up the IMEI code, located on the compliance sticker in the phone's battery compartment.

2. Obtain your NCK code directly from your mobile provider. By completing this step, you may not need to search various websites to locate the code. You can get the code for free using this step. Dial "611" on your device. Request your device's "NCK" code. Be prepared to tell the agent why you want to unlock the phone. For example, you may need to use the phone on another provider while you are out of the country.

3. Obtain your device's NCK code online if your provider is unable to give it to you (see Resources). Be prepared to enter the IMEI code that you obtained earlier.

Repair A Jawbone

A broken jaw is easily treated.

A broken jaw can be severely painful. You can experience loose or damaged teeth, facial numbness on the side of the broken jaw as well as difficulty opening your mouth. Depending on the severity of the break you may also experience bruising and swelling of the face. Many complications can arise from a broken jaw, including difficulty in chewing and talking. You can also suffer from an infection in your jaw or face coupled with airway blockage. To prevent any further complications, seek proper treatment as soon as possible.

Instructions

1. Apply first aid. If your broken jaw does not receive instant medical attention, you are at risk of experiencing breathing problems and internal bleeding. Go to the hospital as soon as possible; on your way gently use the palm of your hand to hold your jaw in place. Alternatively, you can wrap a bandage over your head and under your jaw. This will prevent the jaw from moving and alleviate your pain. Ensure that the bandage is easily removed in case you may need to vomit.

2. Treat the broken jaw. If the injury sustained is small, you may only need to go on a soft foods or liquids-only diet. For added comfort, you may need to take some pain medication. However, if the break is moderate to severe, you may have to undergo surgery during which screws and metal plates are inserted to stabilize the jaw.

3. Wire your jaw. Your medical consultant may suggest that you have the jaw wired. The use of small elastic bands will hold your teeth together. During this time, you can only eat soft foods. The length of time the jaw will need wiring depends on the extent of the break, however, it is typically between six and eight weeks. After a few weeks, your doctor may be able to remove the rubber bands to alleviate stiffness and to give the jaw added mobility. Keep a pair of blunt scissors with you at all times, as you may need to choke or vomit. If the wiring becomes loose, consult your doctor immediately to avoid further complications.

4. Reduce the risk. A broken jaw may result in loose teeth or you may need to have them removed. During this time your doctor may prescribe you an antibiotic such as penicillin or clindamycin to reduce the risk of infection.

Use A Code To Unlock A Motorola Cell Phone

Unlock your Motorola phone in just a few steps.

Chances are that when you got your Motorola phone, you subscribed for a two-year contract with your mobile service provider. This means that the phone is probably locked, thus preventing you from moving to another network. If you want to use your Motorola with a different service, you will need to unlock the phone with a code.

Instructions

1. Go to a site that provides unlock codes for Motorola phones. A few that you can consider are found in the Resources section of this article. For a fee, these sites will provide you with an unlock code that will allow you to unlock your Motorola phone. As of 2010, these usually cost between $9.99-$29.99.

2. Turn on your Motorola phone and dial *#06# into the keypad. You will get a 15-digit numeric code. This is also known as your IMEI, or international mobile equipment identification number. Write down the number.

3. Go to the site where you wish to purchase your codes and type in the IMEI number into the first box. In the drop-down menus, select "Motorola" for the phone's make and then choose the model of your phone. Find your country, followed by your service provider, and click "Enter."

4. Put in your credit card or Paypal details and an email address. Click "Buy."

5. Get the unlock codes from your email and write them down.

6. Turn off your Motorola phone and take out the battery and SIM card (subscriber identity module). Replace the SIM card with one from a different network. You can borrow one from a friend's phone or purchase one from a convenience store. Just make sure that it is from a different service provider than the one you currently use. Put the battery back in and turn the phone back on. Your phone will ask for a "Subsidy Code."

7. Enter your unlock codes exactly as you see them in the email and click "OK." Wait for your phone to restart; when it does, you will get a message that your phone has been unlocked.

There are two types of resets that can be performed on an Apple iPhone 4. A soft reset is one that can be performed to free up used memory, such as memory being used by programs being run in the background. This will not delete any information from the phone. A factory reset restores the phone to factory settings and makes it unusable until set up with an iTunes account. This deletes everything from the phone.

Instructions

Soft Reset

1. Locate the button on the top right of your phone and the button on the front screen of the phone.

2. Press and hold those two buttons together. You will see the prompt come on the screen to "Slide to power off." Do not slide and continue to hold down the buttons until the screen goes black.

Factory Reset

4. Connect your iPhone 4 to your computer via the USB data cable designed for your device.

5. Open your iTunes program if it does not automatically open when you connect your phone.

6. On the Summary screen for your iPhone, look under the section labeled "Version."

7. Click on the "Restore" button.

8. Your iTunes will prompt you to either "Back up" you information or "Don't Back Up." If you back up your information, iTunes will be able to restore from the backup after you reset your device. If you choose to continue without a backup, all information will be deleted forever. Your device will then take a few minutes to erase all information and programs off the device, then will restart to a screen with a globe and a picture of a USB cable that reads "Please connect to iTunes." At this point, you know your device has been restored to factory settings.

Change From F1 To H2b

Switch from a F-1 to an H-2B visa to take a seasonal job.

Studying and having fun occupies many a student's time. Working at a job also makes up part of college life for some students. Foreign students in the United States on an F-1 visa can gain work only part-time and on campus, making a change in visa necessary for other types of employment.

Temporary employment for foreign students or other foreign workers requires an H-2B visa. Potential employers and foreign students work together to secure these documents for legal employment.

4. Contact your embassy or consulate for an interview appointment. Depending on your country of origin, you may be subject to further requirements; your embassy will advise you on these requirements. Be prepared to pay your visa application processing fees at the time of your interview. Check the current fees online.

5. Complete Form DS-160, available online from the U.S. Department of State through Travel.State.Gov. After completing the form, print one copy for your records and one copy for your embassy interview.

Troubleshoot A Nokia N81

Basic troubleshooting skills can help you get the most out of your N81.

The Nokia N81 is a slide phone featuring an integrated camera, Bluetooth and 8GB of memory. The phone is also suited for gamers, as it supports Nokia's N-Gage games. As with all technology, however, it is prone to several errors. Many hardware issues are difficult to solve, perhaps requiring professional consultation; however, you can generally resolve software issues with a basic fix.

Instructions

General Fix

1. Switch your N81 off. The power button is located atop the N81 to the right-hand side.

2. Remove the battery. This is underneath the back panel. Simply press the release button on the underside, to the back edge.

3. Wait about 20 seconds before reinserting the battery and turning on the phone again.

4. Press the "Menu" key on the bottom left of the four-way navigational key. Scroll to "Tools," select it, then go to "Settings." You need to reset your phone's factory settings as part of the general fix.

5. Select "General" from the "Settings" menu. Highlight it and select "Factory Settings." None of your data will be affected --- only the N81's settings. The theory is that if an option has been accidentally changed, it may prevent your phone from working properly.

6. Enter your "Lock Code." If you have never heard of a "Lock Code," you probably haven't changed it, so enter "12345." If you have changed it, enter your personal lock code. If you can't remember it, try "12345" anyway, because it is the default code.

7. Enter the code "*#0000#" (no quotation marks) into the default or "Standby" screen. Select "Options" and then "Check for Updates." This will update your N81's software. This ensures that outdated software is not causing any issues. It is a good idea to regularly update your phone, and you can also do this through your PC by downloading the "Nokia Software Updater" (see Resources).

8. Restart your phone once the update is complete. Realize this may take longer than usual as a result of the changes you have made.

Short Battery Life

9. Check that Bluetooth is not active. Many leave it turned on all the time and this is very detrimental to battery life. If you want to conserve battery, only switch Bluetooth on when needed.

10. Press and hold the "Menu" button. This brings up a list of active applications on your N81.

11. Select any programs you are not using and end the process with the "C" button, located across from the "Menu" button. Having processes running you are not using expends battery power unnecessarily, and is best avoided if you want to prolong battery life.

12. Refrain from excessively long phone conversations. Though calling is the primary function of the N81, as with all phones, talk time consumes considerable battery.
