Function

Phone locking codes can also work as a security measure by preventing thieves from using a stolen phone if they are trying to use a SIM card from a different cellular carrier.

Geography

There are no laws covering locking codes for mobile phones in the United States, Spain, and the UK, so each GSM company in those countries has vastly different policies regarding them. Instructions

1. Use the proper tools to distress your furniture.

Distress the furniture before painting.Use a mallet and a wire brush to lightly distress the wood in places old furniture naturally shows wear. Refrain from trying to distress too much of the wood, or you will run the risk of making it look more like something ready for the trash heap than shabby chic art. Use the mallet to hammer the arms and feet of chairs and rockers. Hammer the feet and tops of tables and dressers. Lightly scrape the wire brush over the rungs and legs and, if working on a cabinet or dresser, a few places on the front of the drawers.

2. Sand the wood. Sand in the direction of the wood grain. Don't sand down the imperfections you made with the mallet and steel wool. The goal is to achieve a smooth surface to which the paint will adhere.

3. Apply a primer. Use an oil-based brush-on primer for dark stained wood. Use either oil or water-based primers on varnish or lacquer. If the piece you are distressing is relatively new, a spray primer will suffice. Allow it to dry for 24 hours.

4. Apply your base coat. Choose a dark color that complements the rest of your decor since it will show through the top coat when you are finished. Brush on the paint in the direction of the wood grain. Allow this coat to dry for 24 hours.

5. Rub a thin coat of paste wax onto the distressed areas with a rag. Allow it to dry for at least an hour.

6. Brush on your main color, a white or pastel wood glaze. Paint in the direction of the grain. Allow the final coat to dry for at least 12 hours but no more than 24.

7. Sand the wood in the areas you already distressed. Sand other places where you want the first color to peep through the glaze. You may want to apply a clear varnish to protect your furniture, but it isn't necessary for your distressed shabby chic look.

Stop A Vcr Tape From Flipping When Changing To Dvd Format

VCR tapes often exhibit a video picture that jumps, or "flips," while the tape is playing. Converting a VCR tape that has the problem must be corrected before being converted to a DVD, or the flipping will also be copied. A VCR tape that is flipping can be fixed by modifying the video signal so that it looks normal before it is converted into a digital file to be changed to a DVD. The process is not complicated but requires a device known as time base corrector for modifying the video signal of the VCR tape.

Instructions

Setting Up the VCR Tape

1. Turn the VCR player on. Insert the VCR tape into the open slot at the front and wait as the VCR tape is pulled into the slot. Press the "Rewind" button on the VCR player to rewind the VCR tape to the beginning.

2. Attach one end of the S-Video cable into the S-Video output of the VCR player. Attach the other end of the S-Video cable into the S-Video input of the time base corrector.

3. Attach one end of another S-Video cable into the S-Video output of the time base corrector. Attach the other end of the S-Video cable into the S-Video input of the analog-to-digital converter, such as the Easy VHS to DVD, which works on both Mac and PCs (see the link in Resources below).

4. Attach the left and right plugs of the audio cable into the audio outputs of the VCR player. Attach the other ends of the audio cable into the left and right audio inputs of the Attach one end of another S-Video cable into the S-Video output of the time base corrector. Attach the other end of the S-Video cable into the S-Video input of the analog-to-digital converter.

5. Plug the USB connector from the analog-to-digital converter into a USB port on the computer. Turn the time base corrector on. Press "Play" on the VCR player. Adjust the fine-tuning knob of the time base corrector so that the meter showing the video signal being fed into it from the VCR player is set to "Normal." Press the "Stop" button on the VCR player and rewind the VCR tape back to the beginning by pressing the "Rewind" button

Converting the VCR Tape to a Digital File

6. Eject the disc tray of the DVD drive. Put the the disc that came with the analog-to-digital converter onto the disc tray. Close the disc tray. Double-click on the icon of the disc when it appears on the desktop. Follow the prompts to install the analog-to-digital converter program to the computer's hard drive. Restart the computer after the installation has completed.

7. Run the analog-to-digital converter program. Follow the prompts to select "S-Video" and "Stereo Audio" from the menus. Press the "Play" button on the VCR player.

8. Press the "Record" button on the analog-to-digital converter program to record the VCR tape to the computer. Adjust the knob of the time base corrector as needed to keep the meter showing "Normal" and the video signal being kept from flipping while the VCR tape is playing.

9. Press the "Stop" button on the analog-to-digital converter program when the VCR tape has finished playing. Eject the VCR tape from the VCR player and put it away. Turn off the time base corrector. Disconnect the cables from the VCR player, the time base corrector and the analog-to-digital converter. Remove the USB cable from the USB port of the computer.

10. Press the "Save" button on the analog-to-digital converter program. Navigate in the window that appears to the desktop of the computer. Press the "Save" button to close the window. Wait as the VCR tape is converted to a digital file that does not exhibit any flipping of the video signal. Quit the analog-to-digital converter program once the digital file has been saved to the computer's hard drive.

Making a DVD From the Digital File

11. Download and install a DVD burning program to the computer's hard drive, such as the free Burn for the Mac or the trial version of Burn My Files for the PC (see Resources).

12. Eject the disc tray of the DVD drive. Put a recordable DVD onto the disc tray and close the tray.

13. Run the DVD burning program. Select "DVD-Video" from the drop-down menu on the main screen of the DVD burning program.

14. Drag the digital file that was made from the VCR tape into the main screen of the DVD burning program. Name the DVD that is going to be made in the blank column at the top of the DVD burning program.

15. Press the "Burn" button on the DVD burning program to burn the DVD. Eject the DVD when the burning is completed and quit the DVD burning program.

3. Play MP3s on a USB flash drive through your existing car radio and speakers using wireless FM modulator with a USB port. No need to remove the existing stereo system. Insert the 12v adaptor end of the FM modulator into the car's cigarette lighter/auxiliary power receptacle. Insert a USB flash drive with MP3s into the USB port on the modulator. Tune your radio to one of the modulator's preset FM frequencies and use the tuning wheel or button on the modulator to adjust the reception until you get static-free sound. You may need to try several of the preset frequencies to get the best reception and sound clarity. Microsoft Xbox 360 consoles come with a DVD drive inside for reading games and movies. You can "flash" or install new firmware to the DVD drive using your computer and freeware software from the Internet. Flashing the DVD drive in your Xbox 360 allows you to run custom .BIN firmware files on the console. Flashing your Xbox 360 DVD drive takes about 30 minutes to complete.

Instructions

1. Open the Xbox 360 by removing the faceplate from the front of the console. Lift the plastic tabs on the outer shell and remove the outer case from the console. Unscrew the Torx screws from the metal interior case and slide open the metal cover. Unplug the SATA cable from the DVD drive and insert your own SATA cable from the DVD drive to your computer. Turn your computer on.

2. Run a web browser and download the freeware program JungleFlasher. As of September 2010, JungleFlasher is the most stable and updated .BIN flashing program for Xbox 360 consoles, and also remains the only program capable of flashing your Xbox 360 DVD drive within Windows (earlier programs required MS-DOS). Run JungleFlasher and click "Flash Xbox 360 DVD Drive" from the main menu. Select your Xbox 360 and click "OK." The program will flash your console's DVD drive .BIN firmware.

3. Wait for the flash process to complete, then close JungleFlasher and turn off the computer. Unplug the SATA cable from the Xbox 360 DVD drive to your computer and reconnect the SATA cable from the console to the DVD drive. Close the metal cover and rescrew the Torx screws. Replace the plastic outer shell and faceplate, then reconnect all power and video cables to the console. The console will work normally as soon as it is powered on.

Keypad Lock

Memory Card Password "Tools" > "File manager." Then open the memory card folder, selecting "Options" > "Memory card password." Your password can contain up to eight characters and is case-sensitive.

Prolong Battery Life

You can let your battery last longer, if you do not run Bluetooth or wireless LAN, or WLAN, in the background when you do not need them. Press and hold the "Menu" key to check whether there are applications running in the background. Scroll to the application you wish to close and press "C."

Update

Update the N85 regularly to make sure you have the latest versions of all applications, including Nokia Maps. To check for updates, type "#0000#," press "Dial" and follow the prompts. Keep in mind, however, that data charges may apply.

Not all carriers or phones use SIM cards.

SMS messages provide a common communication method between cell phone users. Accidentally deleting a text message normally does not cause a problem. But deleting a text message with important information is a problem. Carriers do not provide text message recovery services to customers. Several recovery devices and programs exist if your phone uses a SIM card. SIM cards store a phone's information and data such as text messages. A recovery program can sometimes retrieve recently deleted SMS messages.

Instructions

1. Purchase and install SIMCon. At the time of publication, SIMCon is available for approximately $130. Insert the SIM card into a reader and run SIMCon to recover recently deleted messages and export them.

2. Purchase and install Sim Card Data Recovery. At the time of publication, Sim Card Data Recovery is available for approximately $70. This program works with a card reader to recover deleted data that is unavailable to the phone. It attempts to recover any and all deleted data including contact information, SMS messages and drafts.

3. Purchase the Cell Phone Spy. At the time of publication, the Cell Phone Spy is available for approximately $100. This device works with the included software to transfer all data from a SIM card for editing and viewing, including recently deleted text messages. It also includes a feature to export retrieved data such as contacts to a new SIM card.

What Should The Puk On A Cell Phone Be

If your cell phone is locked and you input the wrong PIN several times in succession, the phone will not allow further entries. To fix this, you need the phone's PUK, or PIN Unlocking Key, to gain access to your phone. As with PINs, these are originally assigned by the service provider, and are stored on the SIM card in your cell phone. If you enter the incorrect PUK code a particular number of times (this can vary by company), the SIM card itself will be rendered invalid and you must replace it.

PUK code

If you have exceeded the limit of PIN entries in an attempt to unlock your phone, you may see a PUK error, and be prompted to enter your PUK to be able to use the phone.

The PUK code is for your protection so that your phone can be protected from unlimited attempts to unlock it in the event it is lost or stolen. The PUK code is generally issued with your phone, and you should have received a written slip with the PUK on it. Alternatively, if you have purchased a new SIM card for the phone at some point, that paperwork should have the PUK for your SIM card.

Punch in the code to unlock your phone. Remember that the PUK is separate from and different than your PIN.

If you did not receive the PUK code or have lost it, you will need to retrieve the code from your service provider. If you have an online account, you may be able to access the PUK there. If not, consider signing up for one, as you may save time over calling the company directly, navigating their touchpad system and waiting for help. Be prepared to have information or documentation ready that you can recite to the operator, such as your date of birth, social security number and your account number. These requirements vary by company.

Once you have received your PUK, follow the online or operator instruction to key it in and unlock the phone.

Transfer Images From A Memory Card To A Computer

Memory cards can hold thousands of pictures.

Most cameras, phones and other devices store pictures on memory cards instead of internal memory. Memory cards have the advantage of being both removable and upgradeable. Most of these devices can connect directly to a computer via USB to act as a card reader, allowing the computer to access the files stored on the memory card. For devices without this functionality, you need to remove the card from the device and insert it into a memory card reader built into your computer or an external USB memory card reader.

Instructions

1. Put your device into USB transfer mode. For many cameras this involves changing the camera mode switch to the "Play" icon. Consult your device's owner's manual for more information about USB mode on your device. If your device cannot connect to a computer via USB, remove the memory card from the device. In most cases this involves opening the memory compartment door and pushing the memory card into the device to unlock it. Consult your device's owner's manual for more information about removing the memory card.

2. Click on the "My Computer" button in your computer's "Start" menu to open the list of storage devices attached to your computer.

3. Plug your device's USB cable into its USB port. Plug the other end of the cable into an available USB port on your computer. Alternatively, insert the memory card into your computer's memory card reader. If your memory card reader is an external memory card reader, insert the card and then plug it into your computer.

4. Double-click on the icon for your device in the "My Computer" window. Your device will appear in the window shortly after you connect it.

5. Browse to the pictures folder on your device. It may be located within a folder labeled "DCIM," "Camera," "Media" or something similar.

6. Click on "My Pictures" in the "Start" menu to open your pictures folder. Right-click on the folder's background and select "New Folder." Type a name for the new folder and press "Enter."

7. Press "Alt" and "Tab" on your keyboard at the same time to switch back to your camera. Hold the "Ctrl" button on your keyboard while you click on each of the pictures that you want to transfer to your computer. Alternately, press "Ctrl" and "A" at the same time to select all of the pictures in the current folder.

8. Press "Ctrl" and "X" at the same time if you want to remove the pictures from the memory card and transfer them to your computer. Press "Ctrl" and "C" at the same time if you only want to copy the pictures from the memory card to your computer, leaving the original pictures on the memory card.

9. Press "Alt" and "Tab" at the same time to switch back to your new pictures folder. Press "Ctrl" and "V" at the same time to transfer your pictures to your computer. When the transfer is complete, click the "Eject Device" icon in the taskbar and select the name of your device to prepare it for removal. When prompted by the computer, you can remove your memory card or device from your computer.

Instructions

Using Your SIM Card

1. Navigate to the contact list in your N95. Choose which contacts you want to copy and then press "Options." Select "Copy" and choose "To SIM directory" (see Reference 1).

2. Remove the SIM card from your N95 and insert it into your iPhone.

3. Tap the "Settings" icon on your iPhone home screen and select "Mail, Contacts and Calendar" from the menu. Tap "Import from SIM" to add all the SIM card contacts to your iPhone handset.

Using Your PC

4. Connect your N95 to your PC using a USB cable. Open Nokia PC Suite and select "Synchronize." In the Nokia PC Sync window, select "Settings" and choose "Create New Settings." Follow the onscreen prompts to transfer your contacts to Microsoft Outlook, making sure you select the correct version of Outlook that you have on your PC. Once you have created your settings, be sure to start the sync process (see Reference 2).

5. Connect your iPhone to your PC and open iTunes. Select you iPhone from the left-hand panel. In the iPhone window, make sure that contacts are selected to sync with your iPhone and click "Apply" on the "Summary" screen. Your iPhone will automatically import all contacts in your Outlook address book (see Reference 3).

6. Safely disconnect your iPhone from your PC and navigate to your address book to make sure that your N95's contacts have properly imported.

Online forum posts by Nokia 5610 users indicate that the phone sometimes has issues reading the memory card, even when it's not full.

Memory Card Corruption

The Nokia 5610 user guide reports that improper removal of the memory card from the Nokia cellphone can cause the memory card to become corrupted. The chances of the memory card becoming corrupted are greatest if the memory card is removed while the phone is using the memory card to access files. This includes any time your Nokia 5610 is playing music or displaying photos stored by the memory card.

Proper Removal

Turn off any Nokia 5610 application using files stored on the phone's memory card; the Nokia phone itself may stay on during removal of the memory card without risking corruption. Reveal the memory card panel on your Nokia 5610 by removing the battery cover. Swing open the memory card panel and pull out the memory card to remove. Replace the memory card by sliding it back into its slot in the panel, making sure the gold contact area is facing up. Move the panel back into place and replace the battery cover when finished.

Incompatible Memory Card

There may come a time when you need to pair your Dell laptop and Bluetooth-enabled phone in order to synchronize the two devices.

Instructions

1. Enable the Bluetooth discovery feature on your Dell laptop. Consult the user manual specific to your Dell laptop model for instructions, as the procedure for enabling Bluetooth may vary by model. The process typically involves clicking on the Bluetooth icon located in the shortcut bar at the bottom of the screen. A window titled "Bluetooth Devices" will appear. Enter the Bluetooth password into your phone.

6. Click "Finish" in the "Add Bluetooth Device Wizard" window.

7. Access the Internet sharing program on your phone and select "Bluetooth PAN" from the list of options. PAN stands for Personal Area Network.

8. Right click on the Bluetooth icon on your Dell laptop and select the "Join a Personal Area Network" option. A window titled "Bluetooth Personal Area Network Devices" will appear. Select your phone from the "Access Points" section and click on "Connect." You should see the message "Connection Successful" once the two devices connect.

Pairing: The First Time

1. Plug the SP700 in to charge. Allow two hours for a full charge.

2. Unplug the device once it is fully charged. The battery status icon will change from red to green once it is done.

3. Turn on the speaker. To do this, press the answer call button for two seconds. The speaker will now announce that it is in pairing mode.

4. Enable the Bluetooth function on your mobile phone via your settings menu.

Remove The Front Panel From A Jvc Tv

Take care to save the screws necessary for reassembly.

JVC TVs consist of many parts and screws. The rear cover and many of the components beneath it must be removed before the front filter panel can be detached. Despite the numerous parts and general complexity of the operation, you can still perform this procedure in your home or office, irrespective of your level of familiarity with JVC TV disassembly.

Instructions

1. Turn off the JVC TV and ensure the power cord is disconnected from the power source. This is important for your own safety.

2. Disconnect the TV from any other external devices, such as DVD players or your cable/satellite receiver box.

3. Lay a towel down on the floor of the area where you will be performing disassembly. Carefully lay the JVC TV face down on the towel.

4. Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the nine screws clearly situated along the center of the rear cover of the TV.

5. Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the 12 screws that run around the perimeter of the JVC TV's rear cover.

6. Pull the loose rear cover off the unit.

7. Locate the side speaker covers on the unit. There is one thin side speaker cover on either side of the rear of the unit.

8. Remove the four screws from the right side speaker cover. Take off the cover.

9. Remove the four screws from the left side speaker cover in the same way. Place this cover to the side.

10. Store all your screws in a small plastic bag for later use. You will need these for reassembly.

11. Find the horizontal piece at the very bottom center of the exposed back of the JVC TV. This is the terminal bracket. Remove the seven screws on this piece and take out the bracket.

12. Find the black earth wire on the very center of the exposed rear of the TV. Take out the one screw holding this wire down.

13. Remove the screw attaching the green and yellow earth wire. This is located to the bottom right of the black earth wire.

14. Locate the line filter PWB piece, which is a vertically-oriented rectangular plastic piece that looks like a cover. It lies directly in-between the two earth wires. Remove the two screws holding it in place and take out the cover.

15. Find the square audio PWB piece near the bottom center of the exposed JVC unit. This piece is unique due to the number of wires running into connectors on its face. There are seven connections made here. Disconnect each.

16. Remove the four screws holding the audio PWB piece in. Remove these, then pull out the audio PWB.

17.Locate the display interface PWB directly to the left of where the audio PWB resides. This is a slightly smaller square cover piece. Disconnect the nine connectors on its face and remove the six total screws holding it down. Take out the display interface PWB.

18. Find the chassis base. This rectangular piece serves as the base for the audio and display PWBs and lies beneath where they resided. Ensure the screw holding the earth wire here is removed.

19. Remove the two screws on the perimeter of the chassis base that hold it in place. Pull up and remove the chassis base.

20. Remove the two back frame brackets that arch across from top to bottom on either side of the back of the JVC TV. These brackets reach from the top of the front display filter to the bottom of the front display filter. Remove the eight screws holding each down, then pull up to remove them.

21. Find the upper bracket. This thinner bracket runs horizontally across the top of the rear of the JVC TV. Take out the two screws to release it, but do not pull it out yet.

22. Remove the six screws attached to the upper glass holder. The screen runs directly into this holder, and the upper glass holder encases the upper bracket. Slide the holder out, then pull out the upper bracket.

23. Remove the front filter panel of the JVC TV by gently pulling it off.

The Sanyo SCP-8400, a flip phone available on Sprint, uses an LCD screen as its display. If your screen is damaged or cracked, you can replace the LCD display to solve the problem. If your phone suffers from other damage, such as water damage or broken internal parts, it may require further repair. Try restarting the phone before you attempt to replace the LCD display to see if it solves the problem.

Instructions

1. Press and hold the "End Call" button to turn off the phone. Turn the Sanyo SCP-8400 over, so that the back faces you. Remove the battery by pushing the battery switch and pulling the battery from the phone.

2. Remove the SIM card. Place you finger on the card and push it toward the center of the phone. Lift the card and set it aside.

3. Remove the plastic grommet on the back of the phone, located near the battery, using tweezers. Set it aside.

4. Push the tweezers into the hole created by removing the grommet. Grasp the latch, located inside the hole, and pull it toward the top of the phone. This unlocks the cover of the phone. Remove the cover.

5. Remove the screws, located on the edges of the Sanyo SCP-8400, using a Torx screwdriver. Set the screws aside and lift the metal plate from the cell phone.

6. Pry the LCD screen from the Sanyo SCP-8400. Slide a flat-head screwdriver under the seam of the plastic cover and push upward to release the cover. Set the cover aside. Grasp the latch of the LCD screen with tweezers and pull it upward. Lift the screen about 1 inch off the Sanyo SCP-8400 and disconnect its cable. Remove the LCD screen.

7. Place the replacement screen on the phone and connect the cable to the screen. Reattach the parts of the phone, in the opposite order you removed them.

Information You Need to Start

Ask the Service Provider

The service provider may be able to help you unlock your phone. Simply call and ask. Outside Sources

3. Double-click the folder labeled "PRIVATE" then open the folder labeled "10207114." Locate the "Import" folder and delete the contents in it to uninstall all themes on your Nokia N95.

4. Locate the ".SKN" file and open it with notepad, if you want to uninstall one theme. When you see the name of the theme, you can then delete it.

Install Different Provider's SIM Card

4. Locate a local retail store for your new provider. For example, visit T-Mobile.com or VerizonWireless.com and select "Store Locator." Visit ATT.com and click "Find a Store." Enter your address to receive a list of retail locations in your area.

5. Visit the retail location during business hours with the unlocked Samsung Omnia phone. Tell the responding agent that you want you use the Omnia on itsnetwork and that you have already unlocked the phone. Be prepared to give the agent a form of payment, such as a credit or debit card, to pay for any service charges. For example, although you do not need to buy a handset, you need to pay to activate the line, among other initiation fees.

Skype makes for a cheap and easy way to stay in touch with friends and family. Instead of racking up ridiculously large phone bills calling from abroad, Skype users can use an Internet connection to communicate. The Acer Aspire 5310 is an ideal platform for Skype. Instructions

1. Download Skype (see Resources). Skype is compatible with Windows Vista, and the Acer Aspire 5310 comes standard with Vista.

2. Install Skype. Double-click on the installer you just downloaded and agree to install. It will install for a brief moment.

3. Open Skype. Click the Windows button at the bottom-left corner of the screen and find Skype under "All Programs." Skype automatically works with the internal webcam and microphone of the Acer Aspire 5310 and uses them by default.

4. Create a Skype account. When you open it for the first time, Skype will give you a form to set up an account. Here, you will be asked to input your name, the account name you want, your password and your email address. Click "I Agree--Create Account." Your account will be created, and you can add extra optional information, such as day of birth, location and mobile phone number.

5. Add a contact. Click the "New" button on the left toolbar in the main Skype window, and then select "New Contact" from the drop-down menu. A new window will pop up. Enter in the person you want to add by using a screen name, a name or an email address. Click "Find." A list of people will come up. Click on the person you want, and then click "Add Contact."

6. Add a phone number. If you simply want to call a normal phone, add a phone number by clicking the "New Contact" button again. In the pop-up window, select the "Save a Phone Number" option. Here, enter in the person's name, then put the phone number in the Phone Number box. You can select the country by clicking the flag icon next to the box. You don't need to format it with parentheses and dashes.

7. Add address book contacts. Skype will automatically search address book contacts if you give your email address. Click the "Directory" button, then select "See Friends Who Are Already on Skype" in the center of the screen. A new window will come up. Select the service you use. Enter in your username on that service and your password. Skype will find all of the contacts you have on that list who also use Skype. After that, you can select them from a list by placing checks next to their names. When finished, click "Add Contact."

8. Make a call. Select the person you want to call from the contact list. Her page will come up. Click the "Call" button to call. You will be connected and will be able to talk.

TracFone is a cellphone service in the U.S. that offers several mobile value plans, namely Individual, Family and TracFone Service Protection Plan. These mobile phone plans or subscriptions are quite competitive in pricing, but there are some known issues that you should be aware of with these cellphone services.

TracFone Activation Dilemma

Porting a phone number and activating a new TracFone unit can sometimes be difficult. TracFone's website may show that your port transfer is complete and your cellphone is ready to program, but it might not work when you try to activate it. After you speak to one of TracFone's customer service representative to try to resolve the problem, you will be promised to hear back from them after 48 hours but oftentimes, no calls will be returned to you.

No Local Customer Service

There is not an emergency response for any issue with TracFone, even for a simple phone lockout. Oftentimes, the direct contact information for the tech support representative is not even available, leaving customers with another problem -- to determine who they will contact for additional help. Note that all customer service representatives of TracFone wireless services are outside of the United States, so resolution of your problem may not be immediate. Your problem will get resolved, but you have to be patient and persistent.

TracFone International Texting Revoked

Certain mobile phone upgrades affect the ability of TracFone customers to send text messages internationally. Some of the phones identified to have had this SMS issue are the LG290C, LG420G and Samsung T301G. The problem is present when an error message appears on your TracFone device after you send a text message to an international number that says, "Check SMS Restrictions."

No Refund for Defective Phones

When signing up a contract with TracFone, be prepared to keep the phone you purchased from them because returning or requesting a refund for it could get complicated, even if the unit is defective. Ask to speak with a supervisor right away if you encounter any problems dealing with refund issues. Startup functions on a computer's motherboard are controlled by software called the "Basic Input Output System" (BIOS). Phoenix is a brand of BIOS firmware that you can update using the official Phoenix-Award BIOSAgentPlus utility. This utility will scan the current software, download updates for the BIOS and allow you to "flash" the BIOS to install the updates to the Phoenix firmware.

Instructions

1. Navigate to the BIOSAgentPlus website and download the free utility (see Resources).

2. Double-click the BIOSAgentPlus utility to begin the scan. This will automatically scan the computer and report outdated firmware for the motherboard.

3. Click the "Download" icon to download updated BIOS files.

4. Unzip the .zip file that the BIOSAgentPlus program downloaded and extract the files to a location you can easily find.

5. Run Phoenix's "WinPhlash" program on the computer. This usually comes pre-installed on computers with the Phoenix BIOS and is found under the "Programs" folder of the Start menu.

6. Click the "Browse" button next to "Specify new BIOS."

7. Browse to the location of the .WPH BIOS file you downloaded using BIOSAgentPlus, then double-click the file to load it.

8. Click the "Flash BIOS" button and allow the program to update the BIOS files.

9. Reboot the computer when prompted.

10. Press the "Del" or "F1" key and save the CMOS settings if the computer prompts you on startup. The computer should now load with the updated Phoenix BIOS.

Instructions

1. Initiate the first call. Dial the telephone number of the first individual. Enter the telephone number, including the area code, on your phone's keypad. Press the "Talk" or call icon to begin dialing. Once the person answers the call, inform him you will be putting him on hold.

2. Open in-call options. Press your phone's menu button to open your in-call options menu. Select "Add call" or a similar feature.

3. Initiate the second call. Dial the telephone number of the second individual. You may also search your contact list and select a phone number. This will start a new call and place the first call on hold.
