Buy A Used Cell Phone

Buying a used cell phone can be a wise choice, if you know shop. There are many factors you must take into account when buying a "pre-owned" phone. Deciding whether to buy from a retailer or a private individual depends on certain factors.

Instructions

1. Determine which cell phone provider you'll use. Many phones are only compatible with certain cell phone providers. Decide what kind of phone you want, which features are important to you and how much you are willing to spend.

2. Read reviews. Once you have narrowed down your list of phones, read some reviews on the phones. Find out if each phone has any common manufacture's defects. This is especially important on phones that are newer versions. Red flags should go off if someone is selling a brand new version of a phone as a used phone.

3. Ask questions. Find out why this person is selling the phone, whether it has any damage and whether the phone is locked. You will not be able to have service turned on to the phone unless the seller has it unlocked.

4. Check out the return policy. You want at least 15 days to decide if the purchase was wise. Ask who pays for return shipping. If the shipping is too costly, buy from a different vendor.

5. Get the ESN code number. Some carriers use CDMA type phones instead of those that use SIM cards. If this is the case, you need to be sure that the ESN is clear. It can be difficult to activate a CDMA phone if the phone's serial number is tied to an account, lost or stolen or has an unpaid balance. If a balance is unpaid, the ESN will eventually be released for new activations within six months of the account being written off. To find out if an ESN is clear, ask for the ESN number on the phone and call the phone carrier. The customer service agents at your phone company can tell you the status of the ESN on that phone.

6. Keep all records of the purchase, in case you have a dispute over the phone.

7. Inspect the phone. Look at the label under the battery. If it is water damaged, the white sticker will be red.

Sync Iphone Contacts To A Mac

An iPhone is Apple's version of a smart phone.

An iPhone is a smart phone manufactured by Apple, designed to easily sync with Mac computers -- though they can be synced just as easily with Windows operating systems. The iPhone combines a phone, a tablet computer and a digital media player into one compact unit. It comes preloaded with Apple software that is able to sync email, contacts and calendars with a computer; the iPhone is also able to sync to "The Cloud" if you subscribe to Apple's MobileMe service.

Instructions

Syncing your iPhone's Address Book With Your Mac.

1. An Internet connection is required to update your iTunes software.

Update your Mac's iTunes to the latest version by selecting "Software Update..." from under the apple in the upper left corner of the screen. Because iTunes is the conduit between the computer and the iPhone, it's important that the program is up to date. This process requires an Internet connection as well as knowing your Mac's administrator password.

2. Connect your iPhone to your Mac using your sync cable or cradle. Confirm that the cable is plugged firmly into your Mac. Once the Mac recognizes the iPhone, you don't want to interrupt the syncing process.

3. Highlight your iPhone's icon under "Devices" in the left hand column of the iTunes window. Click on the "Info" tab and confirm that the option to sync contacts is enabled. Click on the "Sync" button in the lower right corner of the iTunes window to complete the process.

Syncing Your iPhone's Address Book to MobileMe

4. Apple's contact software is called Address Book.

Open "Settings" on the main screen of your iPhone. Select "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" and then .Mac (if you have already enabled your MobileMe account on your iPhone). If you haven't, select "Add Account..." and then "MobileMe." You'll need your MobileMe user name and password to proceed.

5. Select .Mac from under the list of accounts under "Mail, Contacts, Calendar." Select "On" for Contacts on this screen; you can also enable syncing of Mail, Calendars and Bookmarks here. This process will allow you to sync your contacts to "The Cloud" as well as with your Mac.

6. MobileMe syncs your data on "The Cloud."

Launch "System Preferences" from within "Applications" on your Mac. Select "MobileMe" and sign in using your MobileMe user name and password. Click on the "Sync" tab and enable "Synchronize with MobileMe" and select "Contacts" from the list. Using MobileMe allows you to sync your contacts with your Mac as well as your MobileMe account on "The Cloud," which allows your data to be recoverable in the event of corruption or data loss, either on your iPhone or your Mac.

What To Do When Your Sim Card Crashes

SIM cards, like computers, can crash.

If your mobile phone's Subscriber Identity Module card, or SIM card, crashes, there are a few things you can do to rectify the situation, or at least troubleshoot to identify the problem. SIM cards are extremely sensitive devices and are subject an assortment of issues that can cause them to malfunction or cease to operate at all.

Damage

A damaged SIM card can lead to a crashed SIM card. In situations where a SIM card is frequently transferred between phones, the card can become scratched or damaged, causing it to lose the data stored on the device and to eventually crash. SIM cards contain a small microchip containing important information including the mobile device's phone number and serial number -- which identifies the device to its wireless service provider, which then grants the device access to its network. If you suspect the SIM card's crash is due to damage, contact the carrier for a replacement card.

Incompatibility

Most SIM cards are designed to work with phones that are capable of connecting to a particular wireless network. For instance, a 2G network phone is initially equipped with a 2G-compatible SIM card. Mobile phones designed to access the 3G network are equipped with 3G-compatible SIM cards. At the time of publication, the 4G network is beginning to gain widespread use and is compatible with mobile phones designed with 4G network technology, including 4G SIM cards. Typically, the newer SIM cards are backward-compliant with previous networks. If your mobile phone contains an outdated SIM card, the card may crash, at which point you will need to obtain and install a SIM card that is compliant with your device.

Contacts

One of the unique features offered by SIM cards is the ability to store a phone's contact information, such as phone numbers, which can be transferred from one mobile phone to another. Because it has limited memory space, the SIM card may crash if you attempt to add more contacts than it is capable of holding. If you need to transfer the contact information from one device to another but the SIM card has crashed, transfer the contact information using the device's Bluetooth wireless technology. Most phones that contain Bluetooth feature the Phone Book Access Profile, which allows you to transfer contact files from one device to another.

Considerations

Like computer hard drives that crash, contact data lost due to a SIM card crash is usually irretrievable, making the card useless when installed into another mobile phone. Most of the data stored on a SIM card is put there automatically by the phone for identification purposes and is contained in the device's internal memory, as well. When a new SIM card is installed in a phone, the phone's required identification data is placed on the new card. However, any contact data placed on the card is lost, which is why it's wise to save contact files to the phone's memory as well as the SIM card.

The Advantages Of The Nokia Morph

The Nokia Morph is a concept cellphone -- a nonfunctional model based on future technology -- that uses nanotechnology to morph, or change, its shape according to the user's current needs or preferences. Nokia Research Center developed Morph in a joint effort with the University of Cambridge. Nanotechnology uses tiny machines built at the atomic level. Nokia and the University of Cambridge unveiled the Morph concept at the "Design and the Elastic Mind" exhibition in 2008 at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Transforming

The Nokia Morph uses nanotechnology to create a flexible cellphone with an elastic structure made of proteins similar to silk from a spider. Flexibility is advantageous because the user could unfold the Morph to reveal a larger display when she wants to access information. When she's finished, she then folds the Morph back up and put it in a pocket, or shapes it into a bracelet to wear around the wrist.

Cleans Self

When people use a cellphone, it can be difficult to avoid smudging the display, requiring frequent cleaning. The surface of the Nokia Morph uses nanotechnology to create a surface that resists corrosion and cleans itself.

Power

One disadvantage of cellphones is their limited battery power, requiring frequent recharging and monitoring. The Nokia Morph has the advantage of using nanotechnology for an array of tiny structures that harness solar power, enabling the phone to constantly keep itself charged when exposed to sunlight.

Sensors

Modern cellphones often come with cameras, which you can use to take pictures and scan items in the environment. The Nokia Morph can gather even more information. Nokia developers use nanotechnology to place extremely small sensors on the phone that enable it monitor the environment, such as checking for air pollution or monitoring particulate or pesticide level in produce before a person eats it.

Record From Tv To Pc

You can use your PC as a DVR or TiVo unit! With an updated computer, and a TV capture card, it is no problem. Recording TV to PC means that you can record your favorite shows, and put them on DVD for viewing later. It saves you money (because you do not have to buy the season DVD set when it debuts) and keeps you from being a slave to the TV schedule.

Instructions

1. Install the TV capture card into your PC using an available PCI slot. If you need help with this task, consult the manual that comes with the TV capture card. It's a fairly easy process that anyone can do. Turn the computer off. Remove the computer case and unscrew the metal cover at the back of the computer (should be below your phone modem). Snap the card into the slot. Replace the cover, and turn the computer on.

2. Install any software that comes along with the TV Capture card. Do this by inserting the disc into the drive, and allowing the set-up process to run. Double click the disc drive to start the set-up process if it does not start on its own.

3. Connect the co-axial cable to the TV capture card. This will allow the TV capture card to pick up your cable channels. Without the co-axial cable, your computer will not be able to do anything with the TV.

4. Open the software that controls your TV capture card. Allow it to find the channels since you have connected the cable. You may have to press a button in the software application to get it to search for channels.

5. The TV Capture card software should have a record button so that you can start recording your favorite TV shows. It should also have a scheduling option so you can schedule your favorite shows.

6. Use a video editing software to edit out the commercials, and then use your favorite DVD burning software to put all the recorded videos on DVD.

Places That Unlock Mobile Phones In Alabama

It's legal to unlock your cell phone, but it might invalidate your warranty.

Many mobile phones are locked when you buy them, meaning you can only use them with the network you bought the phone from. SIM cards from other companies won't work on the phone. Unlocking your phone lets you switch to another network and saves you roaming fees. However, you can't unlock all phones. Phones like Verizon Wireless and Sprint Nextel use Code Division Multiple Access technology, which keeps network and subscriber information in memory, effectively locking those phones to their own networks. Unlocking your phone is legal, but it may invalidate your warranty. Mobile phone users who want to unlock their phones in Alabama have several places they can go for help.

Fone Zone

Fone Zone buys, sells and trades used cell phones. In addition, the store repairs phones and unlocks them. It can also fix broken phone screens. Fone Zone works on iPhone, BlackBerry, LG cell phones, HTC mobile phones, Motorola and Samsung. Fone Zone has two stores, one in West Mobile and the other in Daphne.

Dr. Smart Phone

Dr. Smart Phone is a cell phone repair service with a large inventory of certified original equipment manufacturer replacement parts. According to its website, the service does same-day repairs and will unlock your phone so you can travel in areas your carrier doesn't cover. Dr. Smart Phone is located in Birmingham.

The Cell Phone Place

The Cell Phone Place provides "no contract" phone service. The company also unlocks and reprograms phones. It has locations in Mobile and Foley and plans to open a store in Montgomery.

AT&T

AT&T will help you unlock your AT&T branded phone if you have a prepaid plan and can either show proof of purchase or have been receiving service from the company for at least six months. If you don't have an AT&T branded phone, you need an AT&T account that's been in service for at least 90 days and in good standing. In addition, your phone's unlock code must be available from the manufacturer. AT&T cannot unlock iPhones. You can find AT&T stores in Montgomery, Birmingham and Tuscaloosa.

T-Mobile

T-Mobile will provide the SIM unlock code to you as a T-Mobile post-paid plan customer as long as you've had at least 40 days of active service with T-Mobile. If you have a T-Mobile prepaid plan, you can receive the unlock code if you've had at least 60 days of active service. You also need at least $10 in your account balance, or you need to have received a refill within the past 30 days. T-Mobile will also provide the unlock code to eligible former customers if it has the code or can get it from the manufacturer. T-Mobile has 167 locations all over Alabama. Call customer care to request the code and instructions.

Make A Fitted Crib Sheet

Fitted crib sheets are essential for a baby nursery but can become costly. You can make your own fitted crib sheets and customize your crib linens to accentuate the nursery decor. Novelty prints are available in a variety of styles and colors. Prewashing softens and shrinks the fabric to prepare it for use. Skipping this step may result in the fitted crib sheet not fitting after it has been washed once.

This is an easy pattern to undertake for a beginner sewing project. These instructions are for a sheet to fit a standard crib mattress measuring 28 inches wide by 52 1/4 inches long by 6 inches thick. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Prewash the fabric. Lay the fabric open on a flat work surface and square it up. It should measure 45 inches wide by 72 inches long. This will provide a good extension around to the bottom of the mattress to hold it in place. It is fine if the squaring and prewashing decreases the measurement slightly. Cut an 8-inch-square notch from each corner.

2. Match the short raw edges at each corner and pin. Sew the pinned edges using a 1/2 inch seam allowance. Iron the seams open. Go over the raw edges of the seam allowance with a zig zag stitch to combat seam fraying.

3. Fold the edges of the fitted crib sheet a 1/4 inch to the wrong side of the fabric and iron. Fold the edge over again a 1/2 inch, iron and pin. Top stitch as close to the pinned edge as possible to form a casing. Leave a one-inch opening at one corner of the fitted crib sheet to thread the elastic through.

4. Measure and cut a length of the 1/4-inch-wide elastic, 90 inches long. Attach the bodkin or safety pin to one end of the elastic. Thread the elastic through the opening of the casing and around the fitted crib sheet. Remove the bodkin or safety pin. With both ends extending out of the casing, pin the ends of the elastic together and stitch, using a zig zag stitch. Slip the elastic back into the casing. Top stitch the opening.

Upload Photos From A Computer To An Ipod

Apple has worked to make iPods -- in their various incarnations -- complete multimedia devices. Just how much your iPod can do depends on which type of iPod you have and its generation, but these minicomputers all do more than play music. The iPod touch, iPod photo, iPod nano and fifth generation iPod all have color screens that display photos in a variety of file formats.

Instructions

1. Put all of the photos that you wish to transfer to your iPod in one place. You can't drag single photos to the iPod like you can with music, so you need to use the sync function in iTunes to keep your photo collection up to date. This means you have to be well organized and keep those photos you aim to take with you all together. Create a folder on your hard drive and copy your pictures to it.

2. Connect your iPod to your computer using the Apple data cable. Depending on how you set up your iPod the first time you used it, iTunes may load automatically. If it doesn't, click "Start" and type "iTunes" into the search bar, then click on the program to open it.

3. Click on your iPod on the left-hand pane to select it. Again, the options here will differ a little between different models of iPod, but look along the top of the window to see the different types of media that iTunes can sync to your iPod. You should see "Summary" and "Music" and then a list of model-specific options, including "Photos."

4. Click "Photos" to set photo sync options. Click the checkbox beside "Sync photos from..." to activate syncing. You may have already set up iTunes to sync your music or contacts, but don't worry: the photo sync operates separately if you want it to. You can come to this page to sync your pictures at any time, or use the big "sync" button to sync all content at the same time.

5. Choose a folder where iTunes can find your photos. The "My Pictures" folder is the default choice. Click "My Pictures" and then click "Choose folder...". Browse to the folder you created earlier and click "Select Folder." A number appears at the top indicating how many photos will be transferred to your iPod. "All folders" is selected by default, but you can further customize which photos will be shared. Click "Selected folders" and then choose subfolders from the list. You can also choose to include full resolution photos on your device, which won't be visible through the screen, but which will be stored for transfer to other computers -- as long as you've enabled disk use on your iPod.

6. Click the "Apply" button at the bottom of the screen to transfer the selected folders to your device. Eject the iPod and access "Photos" from the main menu to view your pictures.

Gprs Faq

GPRS FAQ

Before 3G, mobile operators using GSM technology for their cellular networks first introduced widespread data services through a technology called GPRS, short for General Packet Radio Service. The technology is typically referred to as a 2.5G service, as it builds upon the standards introduced in 2G GSM telephony. As well as being available to users of 2G networks, 3G-enabled networks can fall back on GPRS if the 3G network itself fails for whatever reason.

Definition

GPRS refers to the technologies of second generation GSM data, a worldwide standard in wireless technology. Wireless Internet, multimedia messaging and wireless software applications all make use of this technology to pass data to a GPRS-enabled cell phone. The technology is a precursor to EDGE, a faster (yet still second generation) data technology and so-called 3G services.

Speeds

Speeds of GPRS connections can be up to 115 kilobytes per second in lab environments. In real-world situations, however, data speeds to the consumer average around 30 to 40 kilobytes per second. Typically this is too slow for any type of streaming media, however is sufficient for most basic web browsing activities. In comparison, EDGE data rates are about 135 kilobytes per second, and 3G between 1.8 and 7.2 megabytes per second, again with the caveat that real-world conditions are slower.

Hardware Types

GPRS hardware falls into three different classes: A, B, and C. Most GPRS devices in useare Class B, which allows for use of the voice or data portion of the service at the same type. For example, when a voice call is received with Class B devices, the data channel is suspended and cannot be used until it ends. Class A devices will allow for voice and data to be used simultaneously, and Class C devices are like Class B devices, however the end user must manually switch the device between the voice and data channel.

Considerations

With the slowness of GPRS by nature, its usage is limited compared with faster technologies. During the height of the technology's use by GSM operators in the early part of this decade, web pages intended for mobile devices typically were of text only with limited graphical embellishments. While a GPRS connection can certainly load normal webpages, the speeds combined with latency issues will run load times for most pages to a minute or more. This most certainly makes mobile usage of streaming media difficult if not impossible.

Warning

GPRS connections are not without their problems. One of the most typical problems with data connections with this technology is latency, or the amount of time it takes for a data packets to make the trip between the sender and recipient. Latency rates of around 1 second do occur, and is most noticed by the user in the delay for the desired data to load, typically at the beginning of the connection. These problems are much less noticeable in EDGE and 3G connections.

How Does Push To Talk Work

How Does Push to Talk Work?

Overview and History

Push to Talk, often abbreviated as PTT, refers to any two-way communication where a user has to push a button to talk, and then release it to listen to the other party. In modern usage, it refers to a feature on mobile phones that allows users to simulate a two-way radio communication. Cellular Push to Talk also allows groups of people to establish a simulated radio dispatch between all members of the predetermined group without making everyone call in.

Cellular Push to Talk came to be when Nextel Communications, named FleetCall at the time, began purchasing specialized mobile radio frequencies across the country. These frequencies were primarily used for truck and cab dispatch, but as the technology grew, it allowed the cells to "speak" to each other and enabled the growth of the network beyond just a small region. When Nextel grew into a nationwide carrier, it kept part of its radio past in the form of Push to Talk over its network.

Functionality

Push to Talk establishes a half-duplex method of communication, meaning only one person can transmit at a time. Normal cellular calls establish a full-duplex connection by making two different connections between the tower and the handset at two different frequencies, one for communication to the handset, and one for communication from the handset.

Push to Talk only establishes one connection, thus when someone is speaking, the other parties cannot. The user can change between talking and listening by either holding or releasing a button on the device.

To use the service, the user would first enter the number of the person or group that they wish to connect to, and push the button to establish the connection. The tower recognizes the connection and connects through the network to the intended recipient. The recipient is then notified by their phone that they have an incoming PTT connection and if they answer, a connection is established until they disconnect or lose their signal.

At this point, whoever pushes the button is the speaker, and all others on the connection are listening only. If someone pushes the button while another person is speaking, they will get an error sound from their phone and will still have to wait until the line is open to push the button and talk.

Limitations/Exceptions

Because the connection happens over a cellular network there is no physical limitation to the amount of distance users are from each other. This can give people on opposite sides of the country a two-way radio experience far beyond what a normal radio would allow, as long as they are connected to the cellular network.

If one person is not connected to the network, because of lack of signal, the connection cannot be established. The only exception to this is with Nextel's DirectTalk. It allows users access to the 900 MHz band with 10 channels available for communication between devices within six miles of each other, but not connected to the network.

Flash Drives & Word Viruses

Write-protect a flash drive to prevent virus attacks from an infected computer.

Amidst its widely recognized advantage of being a portable storage device when working on files for transfer to various computers, a flash drive also has a high risk of transferring computer viruses from one computer to another. Word files are highly susceptible to these viruses as such documents are commonly exchanged by multiple users.

Macro Viruses

According to the Microsoft website, a macro virus is a computer virus that uses an application's own macro programming language to distribute itself and potentially inflict damage to a computer document or even other applications on the computer. A macro virus commonly attacks Word files. Infected Word files can be harmful to both the Windows and Macintosh platforms.

Document Retrieval from an Infected Flash Drive

Depending on the type of Word virus in the flash drive, it is possible to save an infected document through a computer's antivirus program. There are also some software tools such as the Smart USB Flash Drive Blocker, USBProtect and Autorun Killer that block flash drives from copying automated virus files and virus-infected files into your computer while allowing safe copying of clean files for retrieval.

Virus Prevention in Flash Drives

Investing in quality USB flash drives is the first line of defense for prevention of virus attacks. Aside from applications that detect any virus attack in the flash drive, there are also those that come with write protector switches so that users can make them read-only drives; the protector switch prevents a virus from writing itself into a drive upon its insertion to an infected computer. There are also available write-protect and antivirus applications specifically targeted for virus prevention on flash drives.

Increase Indoor Cell Phone Signal Strength

There is nothing more frustrating than a dropped cell phone call.

Cell phone signals diminish to nothing when you are indoors causing static or dropped calls. Metal siding and roofs, poor network coverage and the number of cell phone users in your area contribute to the loss of signal. A home cell phone signal booster can increase your indoor cell phone signal strength.

Instructions

1. Go to WirelessAdvisor.com and enter your zip code into the "Find Service" field at the top of the page. Locate your current cell phone service provider and write down the "SYSTEM" and "TECHNOLOGY" information listed. You need this frequency information to choose the correct cell phone booster.

2. Shop for a cell phone signal booster online. Enter your cell phone provider's name and the words "cell phone signal booster" into your search engine to find boosters compatible with your cell phone provider. Take the specs from Step 1, your cell phone model and service provider, the size of your home and the number of different providers that are used in your home by friends and family, and use this information to purchase the signal booster appropriate for your needs.

3. Install the external cell phone antenna booster. This unit amplifies the signal, so the better the original signal is, the better the results will be inside. Use your cell phone to find the strongest signal location around your home. Most often this is outside on the roof, in an attic or next to a window. Follow your specific external cell phone antenna booster's installation guide to mount the external signal antenna at the desired location. You must also follow all building and safety codes in your area when installing the external antenna.

4. Set up the cell phone amplifier base unit. The amplifier base unit should be at a different horizontal level than the signal antenna in order to reduce interference and feedback. The best location is at the same level that you spend the most time on your cell phone and where want the best reception inside your home. For example, if you spend a lot of time talking on the phone while sitting on the couch in your living room, set up the cell phone amplifier base unit on an end table next to your couch.

5. Test your booster. Once the external signal antenna is mounted, cable attached, amplifier base unit positioned and electricity applied, it is time to test. Call a friend, chat and walk around. Go to places inside your home that you use to avoid while on the phone. If there is no improvement, you may need to double check that the unit works with your cell phone provider and the frequency your provider is using. If there is some improvement but you think it should be better, you may need to reposition either the external signal antenna or the amplifier base unit.

Unlock A Nokia 3g

Unlocking a Nokia on 3G service requires an unlock code. The unlock code is permission to unlock your phone's software so it can be used on any network. You should try to first receive a code from your wireless carrier, because wireless carriers sometimes give customers the code at no charge. Keep in mind, however, that it is not required to give you this information, so it may not. There are other sources on the Web that you use to obtain an unlock code.

Instructions

Unlock With Wireless Carrier

1. Get your IMEI number. You can find this under the phone's battery on a white sticker. You can also find the IMEI by entering the code "*#06#" on the phone's keypad. Look at the display and the display will be showing on the screen. Write it down for future reference.

2. Call your wireless carrier and speak with a customer service representative. Give the representative your Nokia 3G's IMEI number and ask for an unlock code. Keep in mind that the representative is not required to give this information to you, and therefore, he or she may not provide it to you. If the representative will not allow you to have the code, you will have to purchase an unlock code from a third-party resource. See Resources for some ideas. When you have a code, continue to Step 3.

3. Turn your Nokia 3G's power off. Remove the battery and your SIM card from the back. Reinsert the battery only and power the phone back on.

4. Dial in the following code on the phone keypad, leaving out the quotation marks: "#pw+(unlock code)+1#". To get a "+" to show on your screen, press the "*" key two times very quickly. To get a "p" to appear on the screen, press "*" three times, very quickly. Press "*" four times quickly for a "w" to appear. After entering that code, take a look at the phone display. If the process worked correctly, the display will read "SIM Restriction Off." If you do not receive that message, try this entire step again.

Bluetooth headsets maintain a wireless connection to your cell phone, allowing you to have a hands-free conversation without holding your phone up against your head. Bluetooth headsets do not need to be registered in any way, but they do need to be "paired" with your cell phone, so both devices know that they are supposed to communicate with each other for your phone calls.

Instructions

1. Place your Bluetooth headset in "discoverable" mode. On many headsets you do this by pressing and holding the power button for a few seconds; otherwise, consult your headset manual for instructions. Discoverable mode broadcasts a signal to nearby devices, which begins the pairing process.

2. Navigate to the Bluetooth menu on your cell phone. This varies with every cell phone, but is frequently found in"Bluetooth" under "Settings" or under "Connections."

3. Select the option to "Add a new device" or "Pair a new device" from the Bluetooth menu. (On some phones, these will be in a "Devices" sub-menu of the Bluetooth menu.) The phone will turn Bluetooth on if necessary and after a short delay will show a list of available Bluetooth devices.

4. Choose your headset from the menu of devices. If there are multiple Bluetooth devices listed, you can identify the headset from its brand and model name in the menu, and, on many phones, from a headset icon next to its name.

5. Enter the numeric pairing code, or passcode, for the headset. This is set by the manufacturer, and is usually "0000." Consult your headset manual if this code does not work. Your headset and cell phone will now be paired and will connect to each other when a phone call is placed or when the headset controls are used.

Transfer Ringtones To A Cell Phone

Transfer your favorite music to your cell phone.

There are many different ways to customize a cell phone. Cosmetic changes, such as cases and skins, help give cell phones a new look. One of the best ways to personalize your phone is to use custom ringtones. Whenever someone calls you, you'll be alerted by one of your favorite songs. You can transfer the ringtones to your phone via Bluetooth or USB sync cable if your phone has that type of technology, or you can send the songs by email.

Instructions

Send the Ringtones to Your Cell Phone via Bluetooth Technology

1. Ensure that both of the devices are Bluetooth compatible, and then turn on the visibility to pair the devices.

2. Enter the pass code on both devices when you hear them beep. The default pass code for all Bluetooth devices is 0000, but you can try 1234 if that doesn't work.

3. Select "Send Media via Bluetooth" on the transmitting device when you receive notice that the pairing is established.

4. Select the ringtone that you want to transfer, and choose "Send."

Transfer the Ringtones with a USB Sync Cable

5. Connect one end of the cable to the cell phone, and the other to an empty USB port on your computer.

6. Select "Open folder to view files" when the "Auto Play" window pops up. This opens a folder with the contents of the cell phone.

7. Locate the ringtone on your computer and click on it once. Hold down the mouse button while you drag the ringtone to the cell phone's folder.

8. Wait for the song to transfer completely, and then click on the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon in the lower task bar. Select your phone in the pop-up window, and disconnect the USB cable when you receive notice that it's safe to do so.

Send the Ringtones as an Email Attachment

9. Log in to your email account, and click on the option to compose a new email message.

10. Enter the 10-digit phone number of the cell phone, followed by the provider's gateway address in the "To" field. For example, a Sprint cell phone would look like this: 1234567890@messaging.sprintpcs.com. See the Resources section for a link to different provider's gateway addresses.

11. Enter the name of the song in the "Subject" field so it will be easier to find later.

12. Click on "Add an Attachment," and locate the ringtone in the window that pops up. Double-click on the ringtone to add it as an attachment.

13. Click on "Send" to transfer the ringtone to your cell phone.

5. Click the "Sync Now" button on the Welcome screen to begin sharing your calendar information.

Choose "Automatic" if you want Google Sync to check for and update new information every few hours. Choose "Manual" if you only want the calendar to sync when you use the "Sync Now" option.

Jabra Bluetooth Earpiece Instructions

Jabra Bluetooth Earpiece Instructions

Jabra Bluetooth headsets are available in several different styles. If your phone supports a Bluetooth headset profile, you'll be able to use it with one of Jabra's wireless headsets. Regardless of model, the basic instructions for use are the same. You'll need to charge the internal battery fully before first use. The headset must then be paired with your phone. Once paired, your phone will save the headset profile, allowing for an easy connection later.

Instructions

1. Plug your headset into the AC adapter and allow it to charge fully, approximately two hours. The indicator light will be illuminated during charging and turn off when charging is complete.

2. Disconnect the headset from the charger and leave it powered off. Turn on your phone and open the main menu. Select "Settings/Tools" and choose "Bluetooth." Select "On" to turn on your phone's Bluetooth feature.

3. Press and hold your headset's call control button, located on the front of the headset. Release the button when the indicator light turns on and remains solidly lit (approximately five to 10 seconds, depending on headset model). The headset is now in pairing mode.

4. Press "Menu" on your phone, then select "Settings/Tools." Select "Bluetooth" and choose "Search" or "Add Device." Wait as your phone locates the Jabra headset.

5. Highlight the name of your headset from the list displayed on your phone. Select "Pair," then enter "0000" when prompted for the pass code. Wait for a "Pairing Successful" confirmation message to appear. Your headset will automatically connect to your phone and is ready for use.

6. Place the headset in a comfortable position on your ear, with the microphone pointed toward your mouth. Most styles have a swiveling ear hook that loops behind your ear. For best sound quality, keep your phone near you; a pocket or case attached to your body works best.

7. Tap the call control or answer button once to answer an incoming call. Most headsets have volume control buttons, indicated by a "+" and "-" symbol, located on the side of the headset. Tap these buttons during the call to increase or decrease speaker volume.

8. Tap the call control or answer button once to disconnect the call. To disconnect your headset and route calls back to your phone, press and hold the call control on "On/Off" button for two to three seconds until the indicator lights go dim. The headset is now off.
