Ports

A port is a path for data. A computers port is an electronic point that allows the computer to dock, send and receive information from one point to another over the Internet. The computer uses varied port ranges for different tasks and functions. The most commonly used ports range from zero to 1023.

Skype Ports

If you know the port range used by a specific program, you can prevent the use of that application by blocking the specific port range. Skype generally uses Transmission Control Protocol, or TCP, port 80. If your firewall does not allow outgoing TCP ports, you can also use port 443 for Skype. Port 80 is generally used by computers and mobile devices for regular Web surfing. If this port is open on your computer, you can use the Web browser on your computer or the Skype application to access Skype's network.

TCP

Transmission Control Protocol is a reliable method of data transmission over the Internet that uses an anchor point between the sending and receiving locations. The information arrives in the order it is sent. The only time the information will not arrive is if a break occurs in the transmission. For example, a break can occur if the computer loses the connection or you enter an invalid address in the Web browser. User Datagram Protocol, or UDP, does not require a connection because the computer sends the information to the destination regardless of the status of the destination. This means the computer cannot guarantee the arrival of the data, or what condition or order the data upon arrival at its destination.

Security Risks

The port you use on your computer to access a network can introduce malware, spyware and viruses into your computer. When a program uses a specific port, the computer remains open and can send and receive information through the open port. This makes the computer potentially vulnerable to attacks by programs written specifically to take advantage of open ports. You can stop your computer from using specific ports by blocking access through your computer's firewall.

Ripping the CD

8. Close the software completely once it is done uploading music, eject the MP3 drive from the computer and then unplug the USB connector. You could potentially damage the MP3 player by unplugging it from the computer before it is finished getting updates from the software.

Most of the traditional ways to transfer data between computers usually involve removable media such as floppy disks, CDs and DVDs. Using a USB cable to transfer data between Windows computers is an alternative that has the advantage of not being limited by the memory size of removable media and eliminates the step of copying the data twice.

Instructions

1. Connect the USB cable to the USB ports on each of the computers you wish to transfer files between.

2. Double-click on the "My Computer" icon on the desktop of the computer to which you wish to transfer the files.

3. Locate the icon for the hard drive of the computer from which you will be transferring the files, and navigate to the folder(s) you wish to transfer. Shrink the window so that you can see "My Computer" again on your desktop.

5. Select the files or folders that you wish to transfer by left-clicking on them, holding down the mouse button, and dragging them into the appropriate folder on the other window. The files will then be transferred from one computer to the other via the USB cable.

O2 is one of the largest mobile phone carriers in the United Kingdom. If you purchased your BlackBerry smartphone through them, then it is likely locked. This means that you will not be able to use the phone outside of the country without incurring expensive roaming charges. In order to avoid these fees, you need to unlock the phone.

Instructions

1. Dial "*#06#" into your phone. This will bring up your serial number, also known as your IMEI.

2. Write down the 15 digits that you see, and save it for later. You will need this to create your unlock code.

3. Look for a site that sells unlock codes for the BlackBerry on the O2 network (see Resources). As of 2010, a code can be purchased for about $25.

4. Go to the site, and enter your IMEI number.

5. Choose the "O2" network as your service provider, select "BlackBerry" as your phone manufacturer and pick "8100" as the model.

6. Submit your payment information, and a code will be emailed to you.

7. Turn your phone off and remove the SIM (subscriber identity module) card.

8. Insert a new SIM card from a different network, and turn the phone back on. You will see a message that asks you to enter a special code.

9. Enter your unlock code exactly as you see it in your email, and press "OK."

10. Wait for a few seconds, and your BlackBerry will restart. When it comes back on, the name of the new network will be at the top of the screen.

A cobra is a venomous snake that lives in Asia and Africa. Most of the time a cobra resembles any other snake, but it can also rise up and flatten its head into a "hood." This hood is the cobra's trademark.

Function

The cobra's hood is created by many elongated ribs that are capable of extending the looser skin on the neck outwards. The cobra rises up on the forward portion of its body and flattens its neck, spreading out this skin on the ribs to create what appears to be a hood. Cobras do this whenever they are disturbed or feel that they are in danger. By doing so they can make themselves look larger than they really are and potentially unnerve a predator or foe.

Types

There are several types of cobras living in various parts of the world. Water cobras can be found in Central Africa and reach lengths of up to 7 feet. Burrowing cobras are smaller, just 2 feet long, and reside in the Congo and Cameroon. Tree cobras are known to live in central and western parts of Africa, and can exceed 9 feet in length. The largest venomous snake in the world is the king cobra, which can grow to 18 feet in extreme specimens. They reside in southern Asia, particular in India, Vietnam, Malaysia and Indonesia.

Effects

Cobras will attack if provoked or threatened. However, the cobra sometimes will "fire blanks," meaning that it doesn't always get venom into its victim with its fangs. Cobra bites are fatal about 10 percent of the time in humans, as the poison will cause respiratory failure and suffocation by affecting the muscles in the diaphragm. The bite of a cobra, if it delivers a full dose of venom, can kill in as little as half an hour.

Considerations

Of all the snakes, only the king cobra female builds a nest and then guards its eggs. The king cobra eats other snakes almost exclusively, including pythons and other cobras. Its main predators are human beings, birds of prey and the extremely agile mongoose, which is one of the only animals fast enough to be able to attack it effectively.

Misconceptions

Some species of cobra are called spitting cobras because they can "spit" venom at their enemies. This venom is often aimed at the eyes and it is very painful when it connects with the target. However, it does not immediately cause blindness--it can make the victim blind if left untreated, but if washed out promptly, there are no lasting effects. The snaked do not actually spit the venom; they contract their venom glands with powerful muscles that force the venom out through a pair of holes at the tips of the fangs.

Unlock A Samsung E380

Samsung introduced the E380 mobile phone in July 2006 for use on GSM networks. If you received your E380 at a discounted price when you signed a contract with a wireless carrier, your phone may only work on that carrier's network. Unlocking the phone will allow it to operate with a SIM card from any GSM network. This means you can switch carriers simply by swapping out the SIM card instead of purchasing a new phone. Other advantages of an unlocked phone include no roaming charges and the freedom to choose your phone plan without signing a lengthy contract. To unlock the E380 phone, you will need the phone's IMEI number, an unlock code and a new SIM card.

Instructions

Option 1

1. Enter "*#06#" to obtain the phone IMEI identification number. The IMEI number is also located on a white sticker at the bottom of the battery compartment. The wireless provider or online merchant will need the IMEI number to provide an unlock code designed for your phone.

2. Contact your current service provider and request an unlock code or purchase one from an online code merchant if your provider cannot provide an unlock code.

3. Purchase a SIM card from an online merchant such as Mobal (mobal.com) or T-Mobile (t-mobile.com). Request a new SIM card from your new carrier if you are switching wireless companies.

2. Go to a site that sells unlock codes for the Nokia 6555. Three that you can use are GSMLiberty, Unlockster.com, and UnlockToTalk.com (see Resources). Fees for unlocking codes range from $12.99 to $29.99, as of 2010.

Setting Up Your TracFone Voicemail

The Nokia N72 and Nokia N73 are very similar handsets. Both are from the "Nseries" range of Nokia phones and both models have been discontinued. You can buy secondhand phones cheaply, however, especially if you shop around online. To compare the N72 with the N73, study the specifications of each handset to identify differences before deciding which has features that better suit your needs.

1. Find full specification lists for both models online. Print them out for easy comparison. You won't find these on the Nokia website, as only current models are listed. Plenty of mobile phone comparison and review sites list full specifications of discontinued models.

2. Compare the physical appearance and dimensions of the phones. The N73 is slightly lighter and slimmer. Its keyboard is also smaller, with smaller keys. If color is important to you, bear in mind the N72 comes in black or pink while the N73 can be found in silver, plum, white or red.

3. Compare the cameras. The N72 has a 2-megapixel camera with 20x digital zoom and flash. The video function has a 4x digital zoom and records in MPEG4 format. The N73 is better quality, with a 3.2-megapixel camera. Video can be recorded in either 3GP or MPEG4 formats, another advantage, while a second inward-facing VGA camera -- missing on the N72 -- allows for video calls.

4. Consider what sort of connectivity you require. The N72 supports 2G only while the N73 is available in 2G or 3G. You need a 3G phone to use wireless Internet, or video calling. If you only want your phone for calling and/or texting, 2G is acceptable.

5. Decide how much memory you require. The N72 has a total internal memory of only 20 megabytes, while the N73 has 42 megabytesand 64 megabytes of RAM. SD mini-cards which add lots of extra memory are available to purchase for the N73.

6. Consider how important battery life is to you. The two models are very similar as far as talk time is concerned, both with just over three and a half hours. However, the N73 (3G) has a much longer standby time: 370 hours compared with the N72's 260 hours.

1. Adjust the webcam using the menu items available for your model. Full-featured webcams will include settings for size, white balance, exposure and other parameters that may help improve the quality of your picture. Adjust during the day with good lighting to get the best settings overall. The webcam can only be as good as the source material, so make the necessary adjustments with lighting, clothing and background issues for the best quality picture possible.

2. Increase the light in your room or use the webcam during the day with the windows open. Webcams will provide a better picture if they have ample light to work with in the room. Use a desk lamp or a table lamp to increase the exposure of the objects in front of the camera. Lower the exposure in the background by increasing the light near the webcam.

3. Adjust the brightness of your monitor down. The color on your desktop will change frequently while surfing and using the webcam at the same time. This distraction can be minimized by lowering the brightness of your monitor. This is especially beneficial if you are wearing glasses as they will reflect the contents of your desktop and distract the user or users on the other end.

4. Wear a white shirt whenever possible to keep color adjustments to a minimum. Webcams adjust colors based on those it sees. If you are wearing a bright green shirt and it dominates the webcam view, your webcam may compensate and make everything else, including your face, look redder than it should. Wear a white shirt to prevent this red overexposure and you will look natural and the way you should to those you are communicating with over the Internet.

5. Simplify your background when using a webcam to eliminate auto adjustments that are made frequently on webcams. Using a simple neutral gray or beige background can prevent any adjustments made by the webcam. These colors make your white balance perform correctly and everything in front of the background will look correct, color-wise. Choose a background of at least 5 feet by 6 feet to cover the whole lens area.

Install Pci Graphics Card In A Dell Optiplex

The Dell OptiPlex has basic video graphics components built into the motherboard. Often, users upgrade this basic graphics support with advanced expansion cards. Many high-end expansion cards come in a specialized format known as AGP. However, older lower-end expansion cards run on the PCI expansion slots and are still used in the OptiPlex. Depending on the form factor, the Dell OptiPlex provides between two and four PCI expansion slots that can be used for this upgrade.

Instructions

1. Turn off the computer and unplug the power cord. Remove all connectors from the back of the unit and label them accordingly with tape if they are not color-coded.

2. Open the case using the thumb screws located on the back of the unit.

3. Disengage the locking arm that holds the expansion cards in place on a mini-tower. This is not present on the smaller form factor. Insert the new expansion card carefully into an open PCI slot. The card must sit firmly in place but not be forced. The outward-facing part of the card must align with the open slot.

4. Replace the locking arm and close the case to hold the new PCI card in place. In the smaller-form-factor OptiPlex, use the provided screw to secure the PCI card to the computer chassis. Next, close up the case and secure using the thumbscrews. Re-attach all cables and power cords to the back of the computer. Attach the video cable from your monitor to the output from the new PCI graphics card you just installed.

5. Power up the computer and install graphics card software. Depending on the operating system installed in the system, it may automatically recognize and install software for the video card. However, it is best to install the manufacturer's provided software and then check the manufacturer's website for any updates to the drivers for the card in question.

6. Finally, reboot the computer to complete installation.

Replace A Nokia 6101b Lcd Screen

A cracked or otherwise damaged screen on your Nokia 6101B can make the phone useless even if the rest of the phone is not damaged. If your phone's warranty has expired, it's possible to replace the screen yourself. All you need is a replacement screen sized for the 6101B and a Torx screwdriver. In about an hour, you can have the new screen in place, restoring the full function of your phone.

Instructions

1. Turn off the power for your phone by pressing the "End Call" button for a full six seconds. Turn the phone over and then slip the battery cover off the phone body. Remove the battery from the phone.

2. Pull the metal cover that was beneath the battery up from the inside of the battery cavity. Remove the SIM card that the cover protected.

3. Grasp the RF grommet, the small plastic circle just above where the battery was located, with a pair of tweezers and lift it from the case. Search the side of the phone case at the same level as the grommet for a small hole. Push a mini flathead screwdriver into the hole and wiggle the end slightly to wedge up the rear of the phone case. Pull the rear of the case from the front.

4. Remove the small Torx screws that became visible when you removed the rear of the case. The screws hold the thin protective plate covering the front of the phone. Remove the plate after taking out the screws, then flip the phone back over.

5. Place the tip of a mini flathead screwdriver into the joint between the plastic cover at the bottom of the phone and the phone case. Lift the cover from the phone by pressing forward lightly with the screwdriver to unlock the small plastic locking mechanism holding the plate in place.

6. Pull the LCD screen from the phone, taking care not to snap the cable that connects the screen to the phone's PCB board. Pull the cable from the screen, then pull the broken screen completely away from the phone. Plug the cable into the new screen and place the replacement screen into the case. Replace the plastic cover by pressing it onto the case body, providing light pressure along the cover edges to lock it to the case.

7. Flip the phone over and reinstall the plastic plate with the screws. Replace the rear of the case onto the phone, then return the grommet, SIM card, metal plate and battery to the battery compartment. Cover the battery compartment and turn on the phone to resume regular operations.

The Nokia N8 is a smartphone that offers touchscreen technology and a built-in camera. Like most electronic devices, the N8 is not immune to extreme temperatures. Temperature Range

In order to keep your Nokia N8 functioning the way it should, particularly as relates to its ability to maintain a battery charge, you must always store the device within a very specific temperature range. Considerations

1. Register with the Symbian Developer Network. The network carries official developer information, updates and tutorials for OPL-based software. Registering with the network will allow you to access information to optimize your OPL use.

2. Open the OPL emulator on your hardware. Writing applications and programs from OPL language requires trial and error, so play around to learn what works.

3. Write a basic program. This step will help you write a program that displays the message "Hello" on your monitor or screen. Write the following code into the OPL emulator: proc print:/print "Hello"/get/endp. (Do not type the forward slashes or period. The forward slashes indicate where you should skip to the next line.) Start the program. The text "Hello" should display on the screen.

4. Write a program that requires input. Open the OPL emulator and type the following code: proc input:/local a$(15)/print "What's your name?"/input a$/print "Hi", a$/get/endp. (Again, the forward slashes indicate that you should go to the next line.) Run the program. A screen will appear asking you "What's your name?" There will be a space for you to type an answer. Type your name. The program will respond with "Hi, (your name)." In this program, the value "a$" is the variable. The number 15 corresponds to how many characters the variable can hold. When using a variable, you need to begin by declaring it as a "local" or "global" variable. In this program, the variable is local, meaning it is limited to just this program.

5. At this point, you've gained a basic understanding of how OPL programming should work. What remains now is to learn the language to increase your programming ability. OPL programming books exist, but can be expensive. Check your local library to see if you can find any titles on OPL or a similar language. A variety of websites will contain other basic OPL programming code to help you learn the language while writing other programs.

Since most cell phones have cameras and most people have cell phones, spontaneous self-portraits are not only possible, but frequent. Getting the most out of your cell-phone camera involves a few basic steps that will ensure your self-portraits put your best face forward.

Instructions

1. Clean the lens of your cell-phone camera. Take a microfiber or 100 percent cotton cloth and gently wipe over the lens. While most phones have camera lenses on the backside, many phones released since the iPhone 4 are now being manufactured with lenses on both the front and back of the phone.

2. Be aware of the lighting. If the sun is behind you, your face will be dark. If the room is dark, your face will be dark. Ensure your face is adequately lighted by turning a lamp on in a darkened room or moving to the shade if you are outside. If there is no shade nearby, reposition yourself so the sun is not directly behind you nor directly in front of you, causing you to squint. Turning on the cell phone camera's flash will provide illumination and fill in the shadows on your face. If you are in a dark room and your face appears washed out or too bright, turn on more lights and turn off the flash. 5. Hold your breath as you take the picture. This keeps the camera still and helps sharpen the photo. Capture the image by either clicking the shutter button on the phone's camera or pressing the "select" button. Many phones, especially flip phones, also have a side button that acts as a shutter release.

The Claris Corporation originally developed and produced an office suite-type application called ClarisWorks. Apple later acquired ClarisWorks and developed AppleWorks. Prepare ClarisWorks documents for archiving by converting the files to a more accessible format, such as Rich Text Format (.RTF) or a database file (.DBF). Microsoft Word contains translators that will open these file types. According to Microsoft, while MS Word versions 6.0 (Mac) and 95-97 (Windows) include compatible converters, versions earlier than ClarisWorks 3.0 may not provide a range of conversion options.

1. Launch ClarisWorks and open the desired file.

2. Select "Save As" under File in the top menu bar.

3. Select one of the compatible format types from the drop down menu under Document Type: Microsoft Word 3.0, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Word 4.0, Microsoft Word PC or RTF (Rich Text Format).

4. Click the "Save" button.

Those who own Nokia cell phones are lucky enough not to have to deal with the dreaded plea for a call from all their friends and associates, due to the fact that they have lost their cell phone and all the numbers associated with it. Using Nokia PC Suite software, you can backup all your contacts, photos, text messages, video files, music files, and all other content on your cell phone using any PC computer. The software is available for download from the Nokia website, and any Nokia cell phone equipped with a mini-USB port can use the Nokia PC Suite software.

Instructions

1. Make sure the Nokia phone you own, or are thinking of purchasing, is equipped with a mini-USB port. Nearly all new Nokia handsets have a port, and many of the older high-end Nokia phones do as well. You will need a mini-USB cable, which should come with your phone.

2. Go to (for North American Nokia phones) to download the Nokia PC Suite software. You will need a Windows 2000 or greater machine for the software to work. Click the link to download, and then install the software on your PC. Everything you need will be installed onto your hard drive.

3. Plug in the small end of the mini-USB to USB cable into your phone, and the larger end into your PC. The Nokia PC Suite software, if properly installed, will come up with a dialog box recognizing your phone.

4. Look on your Nokia cell phone's screen, which will now recognize that the handset is plugged into a PC with Nokia PC Suite software installed. The phone will give you two options: Data Transfer mode and Nokia mode.

5. Choose Data Transfer mode if you just need to transfer files from your Nokia handset to your PC via Nokia PC software. This will cause your PC to bring up a folder with the contents of your cell phone's internal memory, and/or one for the contents of the micro SD card plugged into your Nokia cell phone, if it has one installed. This will allow you to drag and drop files from your cell phone onto any folder on your Windows machine, or vice versa. The advantage of this is you can install programs you have downloaded off the internet, easily transfer music tracks onto your phone, or any number of other functions.

6. Pick Nokia Mode if you want to take full advantage of the features your Nokia PC Suite software allows. This will bring up a graphical user interface that allows you to do a variety of things with the click of a button.

7. Click the "Backup Phone" option to bring up a dialog box that will allow you to, all at once, backup the address book, images, video files, music files, programs, text and MMS messages, and anything else you have on your Nokia handset all at once. This feature becomes extremely useful should you ever break, lose or otherwise destroy your phone. As long as you purchase another Nokia model, you can instantly transfer your entire contacts list and other information onto your new phone.

8. Take some time to look around at the other different modes Nokia PC Suite software offers the user. You can transfer music files using a dedicated window, where they will be instantly integrated into your cell phone's onboard music player. You can also install programs, through ".jad" and ".jar" files. This will avoid the headaches of having to download software on your cell phone, where any number of security breaches can happen.

9. Use Nokia PC Suite software to use your phone as a modem to "tether" your laptop to the internet as well. If you have a data plan through your cell phone provider, Nokia PC Suite software will allow you to use an EDGE or 3G connection to connect your laptop to the internet anywhere you have cell phone service. Nokia PC Suite software has any number of other useful features to increase the fun and productivity of your Nokia handset beyond the scope of what you thought a phone could accomplish.

The Nokia E71 is a solid smartphone that, although a bit dated now, can still meet most basic cellular needs. It has plenty of connectivity features via 3G and Wi-Fi for email and for browsing the Web, and it has QuickOffice preinstalled so you can view many types of documents, like Microsoft Word and Excel. Working through the basics of setup when you first get your Nokia E71 shouldn't take you too much time, though the phone offers enough customization that, if you want, you could spend a great deal of time tweaking all the settings to meet your preferences.

Instructions

Hardware Setup

1. Turn off your phone if you've turned it on already. Press and hold the power key on the top of the device to turn it off.

2. Remove the back cover of the phone by pressing in the two release buttons near the bottom of the device on the left and right sides. While you're pressing the release buttons, you can lift the cover off the phone.

3. Remove the battery if it's already inserted. Simply lift it out from the end nearest the top of the device.

4. Align the SIM card correctly and insert it into its slot at the top of the battery compartment. The metal contacts on the card should be facing the phone itself, and the beveled corner of the card should be nearest to the top of the phone.

5. Replace the battery by aligning it the same way it was in the phone originally and sliding it in; then replace the back cover. When you replace the battery, make sure the three metal contacts on its edge line up with the three metal contacts near the bottom of the phone's battery casing.

6. Plug the phone into its charger and into a wall socket. You'll need to wait for the phone to charge up entirely, which could take a few minutes to an hour or more depending on its current charge level. The battery connector is on the bottom edge of the phone.

7. Insert the phone's microSD card, if you have one. You'll need to remove the battery cover again for this; then just slide the storage care into its slot. If you're looking at the back of the phone, the memory card slot is on the edge to your right and near the top, and you must orient the card so its metal contacts go into the phone first with the printed words facing you.

8. Replace the battery cover and press and hold the power button on the top of the phone. When you feel the phone vibrate, release the power button and the phone will turn on.

Continued Setup

9. Follow the on-screen prompts to provide your country and the date and time. If you or someone else has used this phone before, the phone may not prompt you for this.

10. Select whatever information looks helpful to you from the "Welcome" application, which starts up automatically when you turn on the phone for the first time. If you're unfamiliar with this phone, check out the "Tutorial" option, or you can jump right into email and other configurations by selecting "E-mail settings" or "Sett. wizard."

11. Select the "Menu" option from the "Home" screen by pressing the left soft key, which is the key on the upper-left of the keypad. You can always find the home screen by pressing the "Home" button, which has the image of a house on it. From the "Menu" select "Communic.," then "Call mailbox" to begin setting up your voicemail. Type in the phone number for your voicemail, which your carrier should have provided. After this, you can call your mailbox by simply pressing and holding the "1" key from the home screen.

12. Select the "Menu" option again from the "Home" screen and select "Nokia E-mail," then "New." This begins the installation of the "Nokia messaging application." Simply read the information your phone displays and follow the prompts.

13. Select the "e-mail wizard" on the home screen; then choose "Start e-mail setup." Follow the prompts on the screen to provide your email address and password. Be careful to type them in correctly, and remember that the password is case-sensitive. After this setup, you can access your email by pressing the email key, which is above the red "end call" key.

The Flip Video camera is a small video camera that records up to 60 minutes of video, depending on the model. After you have imported your video clips from the Flip Video camera into Flip Share, you can send off the videos via email, publish directly to online video sharing sites, add it to a greeting card or create your very own home movies. Here's make a movie from the imported clips. This article is Mac-centric, but the steps are basically the same for Windows computers as well.

Instructions

1. Launch the FlipShare program.

2. Import video clips from the Flip Video camera if there are no clips available.

3. Click on the "Movie" button at the bottom right of the screen.

4. Drag the clips you want to include in your movie into the "Create Movie" window.

5. Arrange the clips in the order you want in the "Create Movie" window by dragging the clips into position.

6. Preview your movie by clicking the play button in the preview pane in the right side of the "Create Movie" window and click the "Next" button.

7. Select the checkbox next to "Include Title" to activate the title at beginning of the movie and type in the title for your movie in the black box that says: "Click here to change title."

8. Select the checkbox next to "Include Credits" to add credits to the end of the movie, and type in the credits in the black box that says: "Click here to change credits." Click the "Next" button when you're done.

9. Select the background music for the movie. You can use the music included by Flip Video or add a song from your music collection. Flip Share only allows mp3 files.

10. Select the music options. You can play the music softer than the sound in the video, play the music louder than the sound in the video or mute the video's sound and only play the music. Click the "Next" button when you're done.

11. Preview the movie by clicking the play button in the preview pane of the "Create Movie" window. Make changes if you need to by clicking the "Back" button. If you're done with editing your movie, type in the name of the movie and click "Create Movie." This may take a while, depending on the speed of your computer. The movie will appear in the "My Movies" section at the left of the Flip Share screen.

Unlock An Mmc Memory Card

Multimedia memory cards (MMC) store data for electronic devices such as phones or digital cameras. Some MMC cards have either hardware or software locking mechanisms that prevent unauthorized people from accessing or modifying their contents. Unfortunately, this can mean that you may end up accidentally locking yourself out of your own MMC card. There are several different ways that you can attempt to unlock your MMC card to access its data.

Instructions

1. Check the bottom end of the MMC card to see if it has a locking switch. Push the switch into the "unlock" position and attempt to access the data on the card again.

2. Navigate your web browser to the FeExplorer download page if the MMC card is password protected. Download and install the FeExplorer software.

3. Connect the USB cable from your electronics device to an open USB port on your computer. Open the FeExplorer program.

4. Select the drive letter that corresponds to your electronics device. Choose "Browse" and access the folder labeled "System."

5. Locate the file named "mmcstore." Right-click and file and choose "Rename." Rename the file to "mmcstore.txt."

6. Drag the file to your desktop and double-click it. Scroll down to the end of the text file. Read the last line of text to find the password for the MMC card.

7. Navigate to the "lock code" screen on your device and enter in the code contained in the text file to unlock the MMC card.

8. Close the FeExplorer program if there was no password listed or the password did not work. Open the Start menu and click "My Computer."

9. Locate the drive letter for the MMC card in the list of attached drives. Right-click the drive and select "Format." Click "Start" to format the card and remove any password locks the card contained.

View Pictures On A Disc

Putting pictures in a digital format on a disc is a great way to preserve your image files. Pictures that you wish to keep should always be placed on a CD or DVD for backup in the event of computer failure. Pictures that have been put on a disc can be conveniently viewed directly from the disc.

Inserting the CD

Locate the button on your computer that opens your disc drive. Usually it is located directly on the outside of the disc drive. If you have a disc in the computer already, remove it. Place the disc that contains your pictures face up in to the disc drive.

Opening the Disc Contents

On some computers, an option menu will pop up once you have inserted the disc. It will give you choices like, "Copy files to computer" or "Open folder for viewing." You should select the viewing option. If a menu does not pop up automatically, double-click on the "My Computer" icon, which is usually shown as a small picture of a computer on your desktop. Once you have clicked on it, a window should open that shows all the drives and storage devices on your computer. Double-click on the disc drive. It usually will have a little picture of a CD as the icon and will say something like "CD" or "DVD." Once you double-click the disc drive, a window will open showing you all the contents of the disc. Sometimes pictures will be directly on the disc and other times they will be stored in a folder on the disc. Double click on the folder the pictures are in, if necessary.

Viewing the Pictures

Once you have located the pictures, there are different options for viewing them. You should see icons for each picture. If you right-click on a blank area in the picture's window (like on the space in between each picture icon) a menu will pop up which will allow you to select different options. Hover your mouse over the word "view" on the menu. You can view thumbnails, which will show you a small version of each picture. You can then double-click on the picture you want to see in a larger size and it will open in a new window. You can view pictures as a filmstrip, which shows you thumbnails of the photos, as well as a medium-sized preview when you click once on a thumbnail. Viewing as tiles will give you larger icons while viewing as a list will give you smaller icons. Viewing details will show you details such as the date of the picture and how large the file is. You can double-click on the picture file in any of these formats to open the picture in a new window for separate viewing.

The Differences In Motorola Gprs Indicators

A Motorola cell phone has several types of GPRS (General Packet Radio Signal) indicators at the top of the phone. These indicators stand for a couple different things related to your Internet service connection. There are two icons on either side that also relate to the GPRS indicator. One is the signal strength, while the other tells you if data is being transferred.

Locating the Indicator Bar

Turn your Motorola cell phone on by holding the power key for three seconds. Wait for the start up screen to boot and load the phone until you see the home screen. Look at the top bar line on the home screen of the phone. The first icon at the top left side is the signal strength. There will be a small tower icon with between zero to five bars. The larger the number of bars, the better connection you have on your cell phone. If there is an "X" next to the tower or if there are no bars present, then the phone will not be able to make any calls or use the GPRS connection. Look at the second icon on the left hand side of the screen next to the signal strength. This is where the GPRS indicator is located.

Different GPRS indicators

The most common indicator is the one showing the phone is using the GPRS connection. This is when the phone is transmitting Internet-based information between cell towers. This first icon looks like a horizontal rectangle with an icon that looks like a house on the top right corner and bottom left corner. The bottom house icon will be upside down.

The second icon is called a GPRS PDP context active icon. It will look like a square with a smaller blackened square in the bottom left corner with three lines coming out from it. This comes up when the connection is available but not yet to the point of transferring information. PDP stands for Packet Data Protocol. This controls several set parameters that have to be met in order for a connection to be established and allow information to be transferred. Once the connection has been established, such as the IP address through the APN (access point name), this icon will appear, and then once the information starts to be transferred it will change to the previous icon.

The third icon is called GPRS data available. It will look like three rectangles overlapping in a diagonal line. This will show when a connection has been found and is live, but is not currently transferring any information.

Supporting GPRS indicators

The third icon from the left of the phone is considered a supporting icon for the GPRS indicator and is used to define whether your connection is secure. If your phone is indicating that you have any type of non-secure connection or transfer, you may want to wait to send a file if it has any sensitive information.

The first one will have the GPRS data available icon with a lock symbol beside it. This indicates it has a secure data transfer. The opposite symbol, indicating an non-secure data transfer, is two arrows lined up horizontally in opposite directions with an open square in the middle.

The second icon is a square with a lock and an arrow pointing to the right. This means a secure connection is available. The opposite of this icon, indicating an non-secure data connection, is a square with an opened lock icon and arrow to the right. This icon will be light in color, while the secure-connection icon will be filled in black.

The third icon is a closed rectangle with arrows on either side running in opposite directions. This will mean there is a secure CSD (circuit switch data) call. The CSD is considered secure because the cell provider will encrypt the data being transmitted between towers. The opposite will be the same symbol but will be open with a space down the middle. This will indicate the CSD call is non-secure. This generally is more common when on a roaming network.

3. Create a new folder or subdirectory called "My Naruto Soundtracks" within the "My Music" folder or directory.

11. Listen to your files on the go. Select any track that you like and copy it to your MP3 player or burn it to a CD so you can listen to it when away from your computer. Your computer's audio player should allow you to make such copies easily.

Enable Service Provider GPS

1. Click the "BlackBerry" icon button located to the left of your trackball or trackpad. This will open your BlackBerry Home screen and all your applications.

2. Click on the preloaded GPS or navigation application from your service provider. For example: Sprint Navigation, AT&T Navigator or Verizon GPS.

3. Enter in your information--it typically will ask for your email address and a new password for your GPS.

4. Click "Download," and allow several minutes for the application to download. Once downloaded, you can begin using it.

7. Click "Search" at the bottom of the App World screen.

Connecting your Amazon Kindle Wi-Fi reader to a Belkin wireless router isn't as difficult as it first seems. You would think that with today's technology, you could just turn the reader on and it would do all the work for you, but like any wireless device, it requires manual programming. However, you can follow a few simple steps to complete this task even if you're not a techie.

Instructions

1. Start your Amazon Kindle. Using the arrow keys, scroll down to Network Connections and select "Enter." Choose the Wi-Fi network to which you would like to connect, and select "Enter" in the middle of the arrow keys. Enter a password if you have one. If you do not see the network you need, locate your Belkin Wi-Fi network router.

2. Log on to your computer network through your desktop, laptop or handheld computer. Open the home page of your Internet provider. Clear the address bar, enter your Belkin router IP address, and click the green arrow to the right of the address bar. This will lead you to your wireless router's home page. If you need to find the router's IP address, look under the Network Connection properties in your computer's control panel.

3. Click the "Channel and SSID" button under the wireless section of the left menu. Type in a short SSID name in the box provided. Your name or ID can be a mixture of letters and numbers. Select "g and b" for the wireless mode; the Amazon Kindle will not function correctly with the "g only" option selected.

4. Check the "Broadcast SSID" box just below the "Wireless Mode" option. If you do not check the broadcast option, you will not see your wireless router available under your Kindle Wi-Fi networks. Select "Apply Changes."

5. Set a security password to lock your Belkin Wi-Fi network. Select the "Security" option under the wireless section of the menu. Enter a security code between 8 and 63 characters in the box next to the "Password (PSK)" button. Enter a key code that you can easily remember. Write the key word down temporarily, as you will need it to reprogram all of your Wi-Fi devices. Use the same code on all of your Wi-Fi devices, including your new Kindle. Select "Apply Changes." Refresh your Amazon Kindle, and enter your new password when prompted.

Connect Two Wireless Linksys Routers To One Modem

Connect your modem to one router, and then connect the second router to the first.

With Linksys' advanced consumer-grade routers, creating an in-home networking setup has never been more accessible to the average user. Wired or wireless, setup often takes 10 minutes or less. When you want to network several rooms or even an entire house, though, running two routers on your network behind a single broadband modem can extend your network's range--and save you money when purchasing networking equipment.

Instructions

Physical Setup

1. Unplug your broadband modem and leave it powered down. This will reset the internal configuration to the factory defaults.

2. Connect an Ethernet cable from the modem to the "WAN" or "Internet" port on the first router (router "A").

3. Connect another Ethernet cable from a "LAN" port on router "A" to the "WAN" or "Internet" port on the second router (router "B").

4. Plug in the modem's power supply, and wait until all of the status lights on the front panel are illuminated properly. Connect both routers to a power source, and allow them to boot up normally. This can take up to two minutes.

5. Connect an Ethernet cable from your computer's Network Interface Card (NIC) to a "LAN" port on router "A."

Software Setup

6. Launch your web browser and access your router's setup page. Type "http://192.168.1.1" in the address bar and press "Enter."

7. Configure your wireless settings as necessary. Change your "SSID" to name your wireless network and enable a wireless security level of at least WPA2. Set a password that is not easy to guess. Reboot your router if prompted.

8. Disconnect the Ethernet cable from router "A," and connect it to a "LAN" port on router "B." Reboot your PC.

9. Access the router's setup page and locate the "DHCP Settings" page. Its location will vary between models, so consult your owner's manual for specifics. Disable the DHCP server on router "B."

10. Locate the option for router "B's" internal IP address. By default, it will be "192.168.1.1." Change it to "192.168.1.2." Locate the "Wireless Settings" page and change your "SSID" to a name different from the "SSID" on router "A." Reboot the router when prompted.

Instructions

1. Find out the IMEI number of your Sony Ericsson phone by dialing "*#06#" on the keypad. As soon as you dial this code, a 15-digit IMEI number will appear on the screen. Write it down somewhere because will need to unlock the phone using a code generator.

2. Go to a Sony Ericsson code-generator website, such as Unlock All Cellular, Unlocking or Cell Corner (see Resources).

3. Select your Sony Ericsson model from the list on the website or type it in the search box, then hit "Enter."

4. Select your network carrier from the drop-down list. After you select the carrier, the website will work out the price of the code and show it to you.

5. Type your IMEI number in the respective field. Also, provide your email address.

6. Enter your credit card details to purchase the code. The code, along with instructions, will reach you via email within a few days.

7. Enter the code into the phone as instructed by the website you purchased it from. For most Sony Ericsson phones, you must power the phone on using the SIM card to which it's locked. When you've done this, press the "Left" arrow key one time, followed by the "asterisk" (*) key twice.

Press the "Left" arrow key, then wait 4 seconds until you see "Network" on the screen with a picture of a closed padlock. When you see this image, press "Select." The display will read "Unlock (Net) 5" and "NCK." Enter the unlock code provided by the website. You will see the "Network Unlocked" message on the screen.

Unlock My Nokia 3220

The Nokia 3320 is a flip-style cell phone that offers U.S. phone support through the 850 MHz (used with AT&T phones) and 1900 MHz (used with T-Mobile phones) cellular bands. To use your Nokia 3220, you must first unlock it. The cell phone unlocking process can be accomplished by finding your phone's IMEI number (serial number), locating (through online services) the phone's unlock code and finally unlocking the phone using specific steps that will arrive with the code you receive.

Instructions

1. Locate your phone's IMEI number by typing *#06# on the phone's keypad when the phone is powered on. You can also remove your phone's battery to locate the phone's IMEI number, which can be found printed on the phone's sticker located underneath the device's battery. Write down the IMEI number once you have located it.

2. Find a trusted online unlocking service. Two examples include Unlocking.com and GSM Liberty, which have both been in business for several years.

3. Locate your phone on the unlocking website you've chosen to use. The websites listed above offer either a pull-down menu where you can find "Nokia" and then the model number "3220" or a search bar option where you can type in "Nokia 3220." Many unlocking services also provide customer service numbers, allowing users to call and order their phone's unlock code.

4. Proceed to the website's "check-out" page. Once you find the Nokia 3220, you should see an option on the website where you can "add to cart" or "checkout." You will be asked to enter in your phone's IMEI number and then complete the transaction with a credit card and possibly other personal information required to process your credit card.

5. Wait for your phone's unlock code to arrive. Typically, codes arrive in one or two days.

6. Turn off your phone and remove the SIM card. The SIM card on the Nokia 3220 is located underneath the battery on the back of the phone. Carefully slide out the card, then replace the phone's battery and battery cover.

7. Turn on the phone and wait 20 seconds. Press "#" one time, followed by "*" three times until "p" displays. Next, enter "*" four times until "w" appears, then "*" two times until "+" appears. Enter in the unlock code you have received. Press "*" twice, and the "+" sign should appear. Enter the last digit in the unlock code and press "#" to complete the process.

8. Test the unlocked state by inserting a SIM card and attempting to make and receive phone calls.

Unlock A Motorola Razr To Work With Verizon

A SIM card

You may find that your MOTORAZR phone gives you a "SIM error" or "chip error" message when you switch your carrier to Verizon. This happens because your phone is locked and won't recognize any chip other than the original carrier's. You'll need an unlock code to resolve the matter. You can get one online at a pay site or possibly get one for free from the original carrier's support service.

Instructions

Getting an Unlock Code Online

1. Open the Motorola page for Unlocking.com, MyUnlockCode.com, MobileUnlocked.com or GSMLiberty.com (see the Resources links). At GSMLiberty.com's main page, find Motorola toward the bottom and find your model in the drop-down menu. All four are pay sites and most take PayPal if you don't have a credit card.

2. Remove your RAZR's battery. Read the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number underneath. The unlock site you chose will use it to generate the unlock code. You will receive the unlock code in an email by the end of the day.

3. Go into phone mode on your RAZR and enter the unlock code precisely as it appears in the email. For example, "A5148J Send" would be entered as "251485," and then "sent" into your phone by pressing the "Talk/Call" button for processing.

4. Put the Verizon (SIM) chip into the slot in the battery compartment. If you still get a chip error message when trying to make a call, repeat Step 3. Then contact the company who sent you the code so they can rectify the situation. You paid them, so they owe it to you.

Getting Unlock Code From Original Network Provider

5. Call your original network's customer service center. Using a landline will allow you to read off the IMEI number to them and enter the unlock code to make sure it works before hanging up.

6. Ask for an unlock code. Tell them you have an IMEI number to give them. Remove your RAZR's battery to access the number.

7. Read the IMEI number out to them. Insert the Verizon chip in the battery compartment if you have one already. Put the battery back in so there's power for you to type in the unlock code.

8. Type in the unlock code if they can give it before hanging up. Ask them to wait while you make a test call to verify the code works.

9. Call again to get a different representative if the first one doesn't understand your request or is hesitant. Be polite, even though you likely won't talk to the person ever again. What you say in one call goes in your file and could discourage a subsequent representative from cooperating.

Flash Any Phone To Cricket

Cricket Wireless has plans that are comparably cheaper than many of the major wireless networks. If you are looking to save money on your monthly wireless bill by switching to Cricket, you don't have to buy a new cellphone from Cricket if you already have a CDMA phone. CDMA phones use internal programming to access a CDMA network, including Cricket Wireless, while GSM phones use a SIM card to access a GSM wireless network. You can't use a GSM phone with Cricket. To use your CDMA phone with Cricket, you must change its internal programming using a process called flashing to work on the Cricket network.

Instructions

1. Contact your current cell provider and cancel your wireless service. You need to cancel your current service because your cell phone will only work on the Cricket wireless network after the flashing process is complete.

2. Launch a Web browser, then go to the Cricket "Find a Store" Web page.

3. Click the "Full Service Locations" check box in the Refine Your Search section on the left side of the page.

4. Enter your ZIP code in the Zip box in the Find a Store section on the left side of the page, then click "Find a Store." A list of Cricket stores appears on the right side of the new page.

5. Go to the address of the Cricket store that is closest to you and tell a store representative that you want to flash your phone so that it can work on the Cricket wireless network. Cricket stores do not provide a phone flashing service, but a representative will provide you with a list of indirect Cricket dealer stores where you can get your phone flashed.

6. Visit an indirect dealer store from the supplied list to have your phone flashed. The store representative will flash your phone while you wait.

7. Sign up for a Cricket wireless plan at the same store if available or visit a Cricket store to get service for your phone.

Skype is available on certain mobile phones, including the Android. The Skype for Android app offers the same features as Skype for a computer, including instant messaging, voice chat and video chat. You can install Skype for free on your Android phone, and you can find the app in the Android Market or on Skype's mobile website. You can download the regular Skype onto your computer for free from skype.com.

Skype Setup

Because the Android has a smaller screen than a computer, the display screens for Skype and Skype for Android look different. On the Android, Skype's homepage features four icons: contacts, recent, call phones and profile. Tap one of the icons for a different function and navigate around the app. The recent icon will show you if you have missed a call and display a list of your recent calls. On Skype for a computer, all Skype features are presented on one screen and not separate screens.

Video Chat

Video chat using the Skype Android app is available on select Android phones, whereas video chat is available for all Skype users on a computer with a webcam. To see a list of Android phones that are compatible with video chat, go to the Skype app in the Android Market and click on "What's New."

Skype also offers group video chat, whereas Skype for Android only offers two-person video chat. Starting a video chat on an Android is similar to starting a video chat on Skype online. Touch the "Call Phones" icon on the Skype for Android homepage. Touch the name of a contact you want to call and then touch the button featuring a video recorder to start a video chat. On Skype, click the video recorder button to the right of a contact's name to start a video chat.

Skype Credit

You need Skype credit to call landlines and cell phones from Skype and Skype for Android. Only Skype-Skype calling is free. One difference between Skype and Skype for Android is purchase credit. You can purchase Skype credit on an online Skype account, but you cannot purchase it directly on Skype for Android. To purchase Skype credit to use on Skype for Android, you must purchase the credit on a regular Skype account or by going to Skype's homepage and clicking "Sign In" in the upper right corner. Skype's homepage let's you sign in and manage your account, which includes buying credit. You can buy Skype credit on Skype for a computer by clicking "Add Credit" in the upper left corner of the Skype screen.

SMS Messages

Another difference between Skype and Skype for Android is the ability to send SMS messages. Skype allows users to send SMS messages to cell phones with the use of Skype credit. Skype for Android does not allow users to send SMS messages. Skype for Android only allows users to send instant messages to other Skype users. If a Skype user is also using Skype Mobile, sending instant messages from Skype mobile to Skype mobile is similar to sending SMS messages.
