Make International Calls From A Mobile Phone For Free

Dial international numbers with your cell phone.

Typically, when you dial international phone numbers from your cell phone you are charged a very hefty per-minute fee for your phone call. Although most cell phone providers do have an international calling option, you are still charged a minute-by-minute fee to use the cell phone. However, there are ways to use the wireless signal on your cell phone to call around the world without using the wireless minutes and being charged per-minute service charges.

Instructions

1. Download a VoIP application for your smart phone. Two of the most popular applications are Vonage Mobile and Skype. These are two applications available for most smart phones, including BlackBerries, iPhones and Droids. Most of these phones allow you to download the service directly to your cell phone without a computer service. However, it is possible to log onto the app store for your particular provider, download the product and then upload the app to your phone through a USB cable connection.

2. Connect your wireless phone to a wireless Internet connection. To do so, go into your options menu, choose "Wi-Fi" and click "Activate." Once on, the phone will scan for a wireless connection. Choose the available wireless connection, type in any required password and press "OK" to connect.

3. Launch the application you downloaded onto the cell phone. Wait a few moments for the app to load onto your screen. If you have not yet created an account with the service, you will now be required to sign up (or create a user name and password and input your current e-mail address).

4. Dial in the international phone number you want to call and choose "Send." The application, using the wireless connection, will send the phone call to the other international phone without using any of your wireless minutes or charging you a per-minute fee.

Make Free Phone Calls Using Your Computer

Minimize cell phone minute usage with Google Voice and Sipgate.

You'd like to make a phone call, but the phone is across the room, in the glove compartment, or back at the office. If there's a computer nearby, you still can place that call. As long as the computer has a microphone, speakers and an Internet connection, a phone is unnecessary. PC-to-PC calling and computer-to-phone calls require a bit of setup to start, but that initial bit of work will result in free calls and saved phone minutes. You can use Google Voice and Sipgate, handy Google tools straight from your browser.

Instructions

1. Setup a free Google Voice account, which forwards calls to home and cell phone numbers. First, select a Google Voice number, then set up routing to your home or cell phone. The final step requires a confirmation call to your phone number.

2. Setup a Sipgate account at Sipgate One. You'll have to enter your cell phone carrier and enter a text message confirmation code. The site then asks for contact information and a password. After the information processes, you'll get access to the Sipgate software download. Kevin Purdy of Lifehacker recommends that users simply download the software, but don't install it yet.

3. Confirm your address through the emailed confirmation. You'll then confirm your exact address and select an number with an appropriate area code. Select options for a free, single phone number.

4. Surf to Sipgate.com and sign into your Sipgate account to change your settings. In the "Settings" section, select "Phone." Click the cell phone number supplied during setup and select "Delete." The new highlighted phone number will say "Phone of [Your Name]."

5. Click into "Voicemail, Forwarding and Hunting Rules." Clear all rules so that the screen says that you've set no rules for your number or account.

6. Surf back over to Google Voice and click "Add Another Phone." Enter your Sipgate phone number, unchecking the text message option, then save.

7. Open another window and sign back into Sipgate. Run the Google Voice confirmation call. When the call comes into Sipgate, click the "Dialpad" option to bring up the number pad. Type in the Google Voice confirmation code to verify the phone number.

8. Make phone calls through Google Voice, and receive phone calls through Sipgate. When Google Voice makes a call, select the contact name of your Sipgate number from the Google Voice dropdown list.

Anticell Phone Laws

Many states prohibit or restrict cellular phone usage by drivers.

As cellular phone usage has increased in the past decade so have problems involving cell-phone usage. While 52 countries around the world--from the United Kingdom to Zimbabwe--restrict cellular usage by drivers, the U.S. government has so far left cellular regulation up to the states, resulting in a patchwork bundle of differing restrictions by localities. Because states frequently amend their laws, cell phone regulation is ever-changing; here are restrictions as of June 2010.

Handheld Ban for Drivers

No state has instituted a blanket ban on cellular phone use by drivers, though 10 states and providences--California, Connecticut, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Utah, Washington and the Virgin Islands--prohibit drivers from using a cell phone without a hands-free device. In all those states, save Maryland and Utah, it’s a primary offense, which gives police cause to pull you over and issue a ticket if you’re caught using a handheld phone while you drive.

Young Drivers Ban

Because young drivers and those with a recently issued license are still developing their driving skills and are more easily distracted, most states enacted all-cellular driving bans for teens and/or new drivers, outlawing even the use of hands-free devices by these drivers. States with an all-cell phone ban for young drivers include Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Carolina, Oregon, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington and West Virginia.

Texting Ban

Thirty-three states have banned text messaging and other types of data entry for drivers, either for provisional drivers or across the board, with the majority of these states enforcing it as a primary offense. These states include Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming.

Situational Handheld Bans

While Texas and Illinois don’t enforce a blanket handheld ban for drivers, it’s illegal to use a handheld device in a school zone in both states, and in a construction zone in Illinois.

In Flight

The Federal Aviation Administration has banned cellular phone use in all flights while in the air. If the carrier permits it, passengers may use their phones while the plane is on the ground or use them to play games if a phone has an "airplane mode."

Activate Java Script

To appear less static, websites rely on technologies like Java Script to provide immediate and intelligent interaction, or present animation and other visual effects. In fact, some websites may not display correctly if Java Script--sometimes used as a synonym for ECMAScript or JScript--has been disabled within your Web browser. Java Script is usually enabled by default, but if you need to activate Java Script manually, it will involve several steps that vary between brands of Web browsers. After you attempt to activate Java Script, you can also run a simple test to ensure you were successful.

Instructions

Microsoft Internet Explorer

1. To activate Web scripts in Internet Explorer, you must change the Web browser's security settings. Open up Internet Explorer, click on the "Tools" menu and select "Internet Options."

2. At the top of the window that appears, click the "Security" tab and then press the "Custom level ..." button.

3. Scroll down to the Settings list to the section labeled "Scripting options." Under the "Active Scripting" heading, click either the "Prompt" or "Enable" option.

4. Click the "OK" button in the bottom right corner of the "Security Settings" dialog box to close it, then click the "OK" button in the bottom right corner of the "Internet Options" to return to the main browser window.

5. To ensure the change you've made took effect, you can visit a website that uses scripts. At the top of a Web browser window, click on the location bar, type the Web address w3schools.com/js/ and press the "Enter" key. Scroll down the Web page until you see the first green button that reads "Try it Yourself," and click that button. If a window appears with the message "Scripts are usually safe. Do you want to allow scripts to run?" then click the "Yes" button. If the message "This is my first JavaScript!" appears, you have successfully activated Java Script.

Mozilla Firefox

6. To activate Java Script in Firefox, open Firefox, click on the "Tools" menu and select "Options ... "

7. At the top of the window that appears, click the "Content" icon, then click the checkbox labeled "Enable JavaScript."

8. Click the "OK" button at the bottom of the "Options" window to return to the main browser window.

9. To ensure the change you've made took effect, use the test outlined in the last step of the "Internet Explorer" section to verify that you successfully activated Java Script.

Apple Safari

10. To activate Java Script in Apple's Safari browser, open Safari, click on the "Edit" menu and select "Options ... "

11. At the top of the window that appears, click the "Security" icon, then click the checkbox labeled "Enable JavaScript."

12. Click the button in the title bar of the "Security" preferences dialog box to return to the main browser window.

13. To ensure the change you've made took effect, use the test outlined in the last step of the "Internet Explorer" section to verify that you successfully activated Java Script.

How Do You Use Skype

Talk, text or video chat with friends, family and business associates over Skype.

Skype is a free software program that works much like most typical instant messaging programs, except that it also allows users to make phone calls using Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology, as well as video calls and conference calling. Calls made to other Skype users are free, but even calls placed to landline or cell phones can be made very inexpensively. It's easy to install and use this increasingly popular application and start making calls online.

Instructions

1. Download Skype from its official website (see Resources). Follow the prompts to select a user name and other settings.

2. Go to the "Contact" tab of the Skype window and click the "Add" button under "Contacts." Search for a contact by entering an email address, or enter a standard phone number. Click "Add Skype Contact" to save the new contact to your list.

3. Click on a contact to select that person. Click the "Call" button, which is a green button with a telephone icon, to dial the contact's phone or call them via Skype, depending on their settings and the information you have entered. If you are trying to call a telephone rather than another Skype user, click the link to purchase Skype credits. When you are connected to your contact, start talking using your microphone headset as you would a telephone handset.

4. Set up the computer's webcam, if you have one. Go to the "Tools" menu and select "Options." Click "Video Settings" and select "Start My Video Automatically When I Am in a Call" to enable video calls over Skype.

5. Select a contact and click the "Menu" button on the right to do even more, such as start a chat, send money via PayPal or play a game.

About Skype

About Skype

Skype is a voice over IP (VoIP) program that allows you to make telephone calls over the Internet. The software is completely free, and so are the calls between computer users, no matter where in the world the users are. This service is very popular, and there are more than 300 million users worldwide

Function

Skype is a VoIP service that allows you to make telephone calls using your computer that uses a high speed Internet connection. The service is free to those calling other Skype users, even those from other countries. Skype also offers a low-cost SkypeOut service that allows Skype users to call landlines.

History

Skype was first launched in beta form in 2003 at the beginning of the high-speed Internet boom. Because the new system required a broadband connection, it did not undergo heavy testing before going live later that year. Skype quickly gained popularity as a free telephone alternative, and had a million users after only a year of operation. The service kept on growing, and was purchased by eBay in 2005. Soon after, support for streaming video conversations was included. Most recently, Skype has added extended landline support, released Linux- and Mac-compatible versions, as well as a PSP-compatible version.

Types

There are two different versions of Skype, the regular service that allows computer users to connect, and the SkypeOut service which allows users to make calls to landlines for a price. Those who opt in to the SkypeOut service can pay for landline calls by either signing up for a SkypeOut subscription membership, or by choosing a pay-as-you -go payment method.

Features

The current version of Skype has several features, including cross-platform support and video chat functionality. Skype also has several recording add-ons that can be used for amateur podcast production. Skype also has international support, and users can call anywhere in the world, with the exception of China, which has banned the service.

Warning

Because your Skype ID is viewable by anyone, you should only accept Skype calls from people you know. It is also important not to give out any personal or sensitive information over Skype, as the network (like most messaging and VoIP services) is not 100 percent secure.

Email Problems On A Nokia 6220 Classic

Several issues, most of which are easily identified and fixed, can cause your Nokia 6220 Classic cellphone to experience problems when sending and receiving email. Released in July 2008, the 6220 Classic comes with other messaging features that can -- should your efforts to fix the emailing problems fail -- act as viable communication alternatives.

Memory

The Nokia 6220 Classic comes with just 120 MB of internal memory, which limits the amount of data you can store on the device, including email messages using third-party email applications. As the phone's internal memory nears capacity, you may experience slower processing speeds, which can affect the rate at which outgoing email messages are sent. The delay could be so extensive that it appears that the email is failing to send.

The 6220 Classic also features 128 MB of random-access memory, better known as RAM, which stores copies of files for faster processing. If you do not turn the phone off for long periods of time, the RAM fills up and can also result in slow processing speeds. Turning the device off and back on again clears the RAM and could produce faster processing speeds.

Applications

A variety of third-party email clients, such as Yahoo! and Gmail, produce applications that can be used on the Nokia 6220 Classic. Because the phone has been around since 2008, its ability to support newer email applications could be limited. If this is the case, you will experience frequent email problems, such as slow access and failure to send or receive messages. You can avoid this problem by accessing your email online through the phone's Web browser or by uninstalling and reinstalling the email application.

Networking

The Nokia 6220 Classic connects to the 2G and 3G wireless networks, which offer different data transfer speeds. By default, the phone connects to the 3G network for all of its transmission purposes, including sending and receiving email. If the 3G network is unavailable, the 6220 Classic switches to the 2G network, which transmits data much slower than the 3G network. When this happens, you will experience longer waits and situations in which it appears that the device is not sending or receiving email properly. Waiting until the phone has established a link to the 3G network may resolve the issue.

Expanded Memory and Messaging

If you suspect that the Nokia 6220's email problems are related to its memory limitations, you can install more memory into the device's card slot, which supports microSD memory cards of up to 8 GB of expanded memory. This will greatly enlarge the phone's storage capacity, but it will not resolve the problems that can be caused by the phone's limited RAM. The 6220 also supports text, video, voice and picture messages, which can serve as viable alternatives to sending and receiving email using the device.

Repair Power Windows In A Gmc Yukon

If the windows on your GMC Yukon malfunction, the issue is either with the fuse, which is a relatively simple fix, or with the automatic window regulator, which has a complicated repair procedure. Although you can operate your vehicle with a faulty power window, it can make for a difficult trip through a fast-food drive thru. Thankfully, repairing your Yukon's power windows should take no more than an hour to complete with the proper tools.

Instructions

1. Open the driver's side door and pry off the cover of the fuse panel located to the far left of the steering wheel. Locate the fuses labeled "CB LT DRS" and "CB RT DRS." These are the left and right power window fuses. If either fuse is blown, replace them. A fuse is blown if the metal rod inside the fuse is no longer in one piece.

2. Use a fuse puller to remove any blown fuses and replace them with new 10A fuses. Reattach the cover to the fuse panel and close the door. If the power windows are still malfunctioning, replace the window regulator motor.

3. Open the hood and disconnect the battery from the Yukon with a socket wrench.

4. Open the door with the faulty power window and use a slotted screwdriver to pry off the armrest and the door handle cover.

5. Use a slotted screwdriver to remove the ten poppets securing the interior door panel to the door. The black plastic poppets are located on the edge of the interior door panel. Once you have removed all ten poppets, pull the interior door panel off slightly and disconnect the panel's two electrical connectors.

6. Pull the interior door panel from the door to allow access to the window regulator in the center of the door.

7. Uninstall the four screws on the window regulator's motor, securing it to the door. Remove the motor from the regulator and disconnect its electrical connector.

8. Install a replacement motor to the window regulator and reconnect it electrical connector. Reattach the screws to the motor.

9. Reattach the interior door panel and its poppets in the opposite manner to which you removed them. Snap the armrest and door handle cover back onto the door. Close the door and reconnect the battery to the Yukon.

Wireless Tethering

Wireless tethering lets laptops and other computers use the Internet connection provided by a smartphone.

With the increase in use of mobile computing devices such as smartphones, users are connecting to Internet services in multiple locations and environments. Smartphones use mobile networks to connect to websites and utilise tools such as emailing and social networking. In many cases smartphones can also be connected to wireless networks for Internet access. Conversely, wireless tethering involves other computing devices connecting to the Web using the access provided by a mobile device.

Process

Smartphones provide wireless tethering through one or more of the applications installed on them. Once such an application is started up, it begins acting as a wireless hotspot. Users can then connect to it using the same technique used for connecting to any other wireless network. Once a connection has been made to the smartphone, computers can access Internet services using the mobile device network connection.

Benefits

Wireless tethering allows users to connect their computers to the Web in cases where they do not have any other connection. This includes cases where a user has a laptop or other portable computing device and is at a location with no wireless network connection. Wireless tethering is also useful in cases where a user's normal Internet connection has been disrupted, either in a home or work environment.

Issues

Wireless tethering can use up a lot of resources in a smartphone device. This may cause a dramatic decrease in battery power, potentially making the smartphone lose power completely much faster than it would have if wireless tethering had not been used. Any data transfer incurred using wireless tethering will be deducted from the smartphone user's data allowance. This data may be larger in size than with normal Internet use through the device, on account of the other computing device accessing full websites, rather than smaller mobile versions.

Platforms

Many recent smartphones running the Android platform are now being shipped with a wireless tethering application installed. Previously, such applications had to be installed manually, while in many cases mobile providers did not permit use of them due to the increase in data transfer. The Android operating system is used on devices produced by many different manufacturers, so all of those users have access to the tethering facility. Other platforms such as iPhone can also use wireless tethering through dedicated apps.

Restrictions

Some mobile networks have, in the past, forbidden use of the tethering facilities on smartphones, with user accounts being terminated if this rule was abused. Although in most cases the smartphone platforms are allowing this use now, the ability to gain Internet access through tethering is inherently limited. In most areas the mobile reception is not strong enough to provide the same speed and data transfer achieved as standard through a broadband connection.

Record Music On The Computer

Gone are the days of recording studios and sound boards to record music.

New technology has made recording music accessible to everybody. Even if you've never learned to play an instrument, it is still possible to make music on the computer. Whether you're an amateur musician who wants to dabble or you want to make pro-quality recordings, computers have revolutionized how music is recorded.

Instructions

1. Set your computer up as a Digital Audio Workstation, called a DAW. Download digital recording software onto your computer. Programs out there for PCs and Macs include Audacity, Adobe Audition, Cubase, Garageband and Pro Tools, to name a few. Pricing in 2011 for these programs range drastically from free (Audacity) to nearly $2,000 (Pro Tools). Make sure your computer has the right processing power to support whatever DAW you decide on. At least one gig of RAM is recommended for most DAWs.

2. Get a recording interface, also called a sound card. It should include inputs for guitar, microphone and headphones. A firewire interface is recommended; it plugs directly into your firewire port with no need for an AC adaptor.

3. Get a keyboard. A Midi controller keyboard plugs right into your computer's USB port. It cannot make sounds on its own, but triggers software sounds on the computer. If your keyboard isn't USB compatible, you can purchase a separate Midi/USB interface. Your keyboard needs to have a Midi out port to trigger software instruments.

4. Purchase a condenser microphone for vocals and acoustic guitar work. Good quality headphones are also a must.

5. Install the driver software for the recording interface and keyboard (if necessary). Configure the interface per the individual driver and keyboard instructions to communicate with the recording software.

6. Play around with different software instruments and loops. Loops are prerecorded tracks, such as drums, synthesizers, strings, etc., that can be integrated into a song. Loops are the main way beginning musicians sound closer to pros.

7. Configure your recording software for the particular recording session. Set the input level for the instrument and/or vocals, left/right balance, hit "Record" and go for it. Don't expect a masterpiece right away. It can take some time to become familiar with a software program. Experiment with different settings and sounds until you find the balance that is right for you.

How Long Do I Need To Initially Charge The Battery For A Nokia 2630

Released in early 2009, the Nokia 2630 is a standard mobile phone with all the basic features, including Internet, email, text and multimedia messaging. This mobile device also has Bluetooth capabilities and features a built-in 4x digital zoom camera. A new Nokia 2630 comes with a battery, battery charger and user guide. Depending upon the service provider, a SIM card may accompany the device. After inserting the SIM, if applicable, battery and attaching the back cover, you should charge your battery immediately before using the device.

Initial Battery Charging

After opening your Nokia 2630 and inserting the battery and SIM, the battery must be charged for a continued, uninterrupted for 12 hours. This ensures a lasting charge for an out-of-box battery and will set the course for your battery life for the length of time you own the phone. Nokia recommends charging your battery for the complete 12 hours before powering on your Nokia 2630 for the first time to guarantee that your battery will hold a full charge for the estimated standby time of six hours or talk time of three hours. A good rule of thumb is to charge the battery overnight as you sleep and powering on the phone when you wake up in the morning.

Battery Issues

After charging your Nokia 2630 for the recommended 12 hours, power on your device and check your battery meter at the top right corner of the display screen. It should show a complete charge. If the battery meter is not showing a full charge, you may have a faulty battery. Nokia recommends charging the battery, with the phone powered on, for an addition two hours. After this time, check the battery meter again. If it still does not show a full charge or your battery is not getting the expected six-hour standby or three hours talk time, you may need to replace the battery.

Warranty Battery Replacement

If your battery is not meeting the Nokia standards for battery life, contact your service provider immediately to request a new battery. Within the first 12 months after purchasing the Nokia 2630, your phone, battery and charger are covered under a wireless warranty, allowing for free product replacement. Most service providers are reached by dialing "611" from your mobile phone. After verifying your account, explain what is wrong with your battery and request a replacement be shipped to you. The defective part must be returned after receiving your battery replacement.

Purchasing a Battery

If your Nokia 2630 is out of warranty, purchasing a replacement battery is your next option. Nokia batteries can be purchased through your wireless provider's sales department, directly through Nokia (see Resources) or by visiting store that sales Nokia wireless products. Prices vary depending upon where your purchase your battery but range between $20 and $30, excluding taxes and shipping fees, as of May 2011.

Java Accelerometer Games

You can play different accelerometer games if you have the accelerometer motion sensor package.

An accelerometer helps you figure out the correct acceleration of a particular device, and the accelerometer motion sensor is found on different mobile devices, such as Nokia mobile phones. This sensor senses the movement of your device, including the direction in which you rotate it, and it adjusts to that movement. Java-based games are available for mobile devices with this technology.

Ball Game

The "Accelerometer Ball Game" requires you to move multiple balls around objects and through a maze. You control the ball by moving your device in different directions, and the goal is to get your balls through the maze as quickly as possible. This game is for people of all ages, and it's a freeware program. This means that you can use and share the program without paying a licensing fee. To find this game, go to the Symbian Freak site and scroll down to the Google search box. Click the "Symbian Freak" radio button, and type in the name of the game.

Step Counter

The "Nokia Step Counter" is a game that keeps track of all the steps that you have taken during your day and the total distance that you traveled. You can also determine how many calories you burned in a single day. It outputs a graph of your activity and total time spent walking. To use this application, carry your phone around with you in your pocket, attached to your belt, or in your purse. To find this application, go to Nokia Beta Labs, and type "Nokia Step Counter" in the search box.

Lightsaber

The "Lightsaber" game allows you to turn your phone into a virtual light saber, which is the glowing sword in the "Star Wars" movies. As you move the phone around, it creates the light saber sound effects. You can clash with other people's phones that have the application, and the phone produces the sounds of two light sabers colliding with one another. You can download this application by searching for "cool accelerometers application" for Nokia N95 in the S60Tips.com search box.

Invaders

The "Accelerometer Invaders" game is based on the Japanese "Space Invaders" game from the 1970s. In this game, you have a total of four ships, and you must shoot down as many alien invaders as you can before all of your ships are destroyed. You receive points by destroying your enemies, and your total number of points is listed at the top of the screen. This is a freeware application, and you can download it from the Symbian Freak website. To find this game, go to Symbian Freak, and scroll down to the Google search box located on the lower left-hand side of the screen. Click the "Symbian Freak" radio button, and type in the name of the game.

Unpack Multiple Zip Files

Zip files are a type of compressed file format that allows the user to pack many large files into one folder that is easily uploadable or sendable. Zipped files of multiple types, including text and art files, can be compressed and compacted into one file named with a ".zip" extension. After you unpack multiple Zip files, these files can then be sent as attachments to emails or added to websites for downloading. They must then be unzipped using a similar process, and all of the compacted files will be available in their original format.

Instructions

1. Gather all of your files to be unpacked on your computer into one folder, or together on your desktop. These files should all be .zip files, and will feature the image of a folder with a zipper in the middle.

2. Hold the "Shift" button on your keyboard and use the arrows on your keyboard to select all of the files that you wish to unpack. Once all of the files are selected release the "Shift" button.

3. Right-click on one of your zipped folders that you have selected and click "Extract All" in the pop-up menu. The files, depending on their size, may take a couple seconds or minutes to unzip. Your newly unpacked files will appear in your folder or on your desktop next to the files that they were unpacked from, and will be ready to access or use.

4. If you don't already have software for unpacking .zip files, you can download one of many popular archiving and unpacking programs available on the Internet. There are dozens of programs and pieces of software available for opening Zip files, some that you can download free and some that you must buy. One such popular program is WinRAR Archiver, which handles both .rar and .zip files, and can be downloaded free. It is compatible with any computer operating system.

5. Visit the link to download WinRAR Archiver and save the program to your computer. Right-click on your .zip files and click "Open With" and select your WinRAR Archiver to use your new program to unpack the files.

6. Click the "Wizard" tab and icon on your WinRAR Archiver and click "Open" to unpack your zipped files. The unpacking should take only seconds or minutes, and will produce a new folder on your desktop with your unpacked files.

Viruses In Mobile Phones

Since 2004, cell phones have been targeted by forms of viruses in the same way as computers are.

Mobile phone viruses --- designed to disrupt and damage cell phone software --- have been around since 2004, as reported by the Techworld website. Similar to viruses that target personal computers, cell phone viruses are passed from one device to another and attack operating systems if opened by the user. Once established, the virus finds another device to transfer to, typically by scanning the area for cell phones.

Cabir

Cabir is known as the first reported cell-phone virus, and was first discovered in the Philippines in 2004; it later spread to other countries, including France and Japan. According to the Techworld news website, Canir was released by the 29A virus writers group, who designed the virus to prove that a computer virus could attack cell phone systems. Cabir affects cell phones that use the Symbian operating system and requires Bluetooth technology to allow it to spread between devices. The virus reconfigures phones and forces the phone's display to show the word "Caribe" or the code "Caribe-VZ-29A" on the screen. The virus has affected phones from brands such as Nokia and Siemens.

The Cabir virus isn't an especially effective virus, as noted by the Techworld website. It can install itself only on a limited amount of phones, and it can't launch itself unless the user downloads and installs the relevant file.

Commwarrior

Commwarrior is a form of Trojan virus, a type of malicious virus that is prevalent on computer systems. The Commwarrior virus, which appeared in 2006, was most virulent in Spain. According to the TechQuark website, Commwarrior affected about 100,000 phones in that country in one year. The virus affects phones running the Symbian S60 Second Edition system, produced by Nokia.

Commwarrior works by copying itself entirely; it contains code that can damage a cell phone system or network. The virus can spread in two ways. It can spread via MMS messages, which can take the form of picture or audio files. In this case, Commwarrior sends an MMS file, typically to contacts on an infected phone. Users who open this infected file receive the Commwarrior virus. Alternatively, the virus can spread using a phone's Bluetooth feature, scanning the area to find other Bluetooth-enabled phones to send the file to.

InfoJack

InfoJack --- otherwise known as WinCE --- is a form of Trojan virus that exclusively targets Windows Mobile devices. According to the F-Secure website, InfoJack was discovered in 2008 and is malware that's constructed of multiple parts. The virus enters devices by disguising itself as a necessary file attached to legitimate types of software, such as games. The virus then downloads the rest of its code by linking to its own server. The effect of InfoJack is to disable a device's security settings. Software installations on the device are then automatically complete, regardless of any threats to the device they pose, and the InfoJack's server can receive information from the infected device.

Send Data To A Bluetooth Via Spp

SPP, or Serial Port Profile, is name for a way of setting up virtual serials ports and connecting two Bluetooth-enabled devices. The term is more or less a technical one that refers to how all Bluetooth-enabled devices communicate with each other. SPP basically outlines the technical process involved in creating the wireless connection between devices. The process of sending data between Bluetooth-enabled devices using the SPP, or Bluetooth technology, is a fairly straightforward one.

Instructions

1. Open the "Bluetooth Settings" window on both of your devices (computer, mobile device, etc.). Each device will vary on how you reach the Bluetooth settings, but most devices that have Bluetooth capabilities have a selection for these settings in the main menu.

2. Navigate through the "Bluetooth Settings" menu on one of your devices and select "Discoverable," then click "OK" (or equivalent command). This will make the device appear on the device pairing of the other.

3. Navigate through the "Bluetooth Settings" menu on the other device and select "Pairing" to open the pairing list. This list will show all available devices to pair with. Select the other device that you are working with from the list and click "OK" (or equivalent command). This will pair or connect the devices wirelessly via SPP Bluetooth connection.

4. Navigate through the "Bluetooth Settings" menu on one of your devices and select "Transfer." This will open the list of available data files to be transferred between devices. Connect The Bluetooth Headset To The Ps3

Use your Bluetooth headset to communicate with other gamers.

If you love video games, you'll also appreciate the new technological advances that have been made in recent years. Now video game players don't have to compete just with whomever is playing on their specific gaming system. Multiplayers are now able to communicate via an Internet connection and play against or with each other from all over the world (see Reference 2). While it's simple to connect your Bluetooth headset to work with your Playstation 3 (PS3), it will take a few more steps than it would to connect a corded headset (see Reference 1).

Instructions

1. Turn on your Sony Playstation 3 and your PS3 controller (see Reference 1).

2. Use your PS3 controller to select the "Settings" menu from your PS3 home screen. Press "X" on the controller to make your selections. Choose "Accessory Settings" and then choose "Manage Bluetooth Devices" (see Reference 1).

3. Turn on your Bluetooth headset. Each Bluetooth varies, so you'll need to consult your Bluetooth's owner's manual to find out correctly pair your headset with another device. Typically, you'll hold down the button that's located on the headset until the light on the headset begins to flash (see Reference 1).

4. Register your Bluetooth headset. The "Manage Bluetooth Devices" menu on your screen will say "There are no Bluetooth devices registered. Do you want to register a device?" Choose "Yes." Then select the "Begin Scan" option. As long as your Bluetooth headset is correctly set up for pairing, according to your owner's manual, there should be no problem with the scan (see Reference 1).

5. Enter the four-digit verification code that's meant specifically for your Bluetooth device. You should be able to find this code in the owner's manual (see Reference 1).

6. Ensure that your Input Device is set to your Bluetooth. You can do this by accessing the "Accessory Settings" menu and then the "Audio Device Settings" menu (see Reference 1).

Remove A Macro Virus

Macro viruses often affect Microsoft Word.

A Macro virus is a type of computer virus that affects Microsoft Word and similar applications. Generally, Macro viruses are more annoying than harmful. For example, a Macro virus might insert a funny line of text every time you type a certain word into a Microsoft Word document. Nevertheless, like all computer viruses, Macro viruses may make your computer run slower, change your Internet and desktop settings, and decrease your available computer memory. Consequently, they should be removed immediately.

Instructions

Automatic Removal

1. Open your anti-virus program. If you do not have an anti-virus program, consider downloading Windows Defender or Sophos (see links under Resources). Windows Defender and Sophos are free anti-virus programs.

2. Update your anti-virus program. Most anti-virus programs include an "Update" or "Check for Updates" option. Updating your anti-virus is critical. New viruses are found everyday. Thus, if you updated your anti-virus program yesterday, and a new virus is found today, you will not be protected against it.

3. Run a full scan of your computer using your anti-virus program. Most anti-virus programs give you the option of running a full scan or a quick scan. A full scan will check your entire computer for viruses, whereas a quick scan only searches the areas where viruses are most likely to be found. If your anti-virus program does not detect and delete the Macro virus, continue to the next step.

Manual Removal

4. Press "Ctrl," "Alt" and "Delete."

5. Click on the "Task Manager," and then click on the "Processes" tab.

6. End all of the processes associated with the Macro virus. To end a process, right-click on it and select "End Process." To determine if a process is associated with the Macro virus, type the name of the process into the Process Library search box (see links under Resources).

7. Click on the "Start" menu, and then click on the "Search Programs and Files" box.

8. Search for and delete all of the files associated with the Macro virus. To delete a file, right-click on it and select "Delete." For a list of files associated with the Macro virus, type the name of the Macro virus into the 411-Spyware search box (see links under Resources). If you do not know the name of the Macro virus, you can type the name of suspicious files into the Filename search box to determine if they are associated with a known virus (see links under Resources).

Dismantle An Itouch

Dismantling your iPod Touch is possible, but will void the warranty.

Like most of Apple's computers, laptops and mobile devices, the warranty on an iPod Touch will be voided if you dismantle it. Because the device uses a touchscreen, the screen itself is very delicate and costly to replace. However, it is possible for you to take apart your iPod Touch with simple tools. If your iPod Touch is giving you problems, take it to your local Apple store before attempting to dismantle it yourself.

Instructions

1. Hold your iPod Touch in one hand and a nail file or similar flat metal object in the other. Insert the file into the crevice along the top of your iPod Touch and carefully pry off the cover by applying pressure to the back case. Set the cover aside and lay the Touch on the table, open side up.

2. Pry out the battery in the center of the Touch with the file and set it aside. With the Phillips screwdriver, remove the screws at the bottom of the Touch, followed by the screws holding down a small cover next to the battery connections. Set the screws aside and take off the small cover.

3. Pull up the tab on the right corner of the device to reveal two screws, and remove those screws. Repeat this step on the tab on the left corner of the iPod Touch. Remove the remaining screws on both sides, leaving the Touch lying flat, as these final screws are all that's left to hold the screen in place. Remove the screen when finished.

Use A Gps Data Card

A GPS has a certain amount of memory programmed into it when you buy it. As with computers, most users want to expand the memory of their machines or add extra software. A blank data card allows you to save information that you use with your GPS without using all the built-in memory. A pre-loaded data card usually contains maps that you can use without storing them on your GPS.

Instructions

Use a Blank GPS Data Card

1. Open the battery compartment of your GPS. There is a slot where the data card resides.

2. Insert the blank data card into its slot until it cannot slide any further. Close the battery compartment.

3. Turn on your GPS.

4. Format the blank memory card before storing information on it. Follow instructions from your data card or GPS. Usually formatting entails pressing the power button for a specified amount of time.

5. Allow the formatting process to complete before attempting to use the data card. Depending on the amount of space on your card, it can take a number of minutes to format.

6. Transfer data stored on your GPS to your card. Refer to your user guide for assistance with this feature.

7. Download the contents of the data card to your computer if you want to process or manipulate the information. You may need additional adapters if one machine uses USB interface and the other uses serial interface.

Use a Pre-Loaded GPS Data Card

8. Choose a data card that is loaded with maps of the area you want to explore. Many different versions exist with United States regional maps, neighboring countries in Europe and other combinations.

9. Snap the data card into the battery compartment slot. Be sure it goes all the way in without forcing it.

10. Turn on your GPS. The program that is loaded onto the data card should come on automatically.

11. Browse street, highway and other route maps, as well as coverage of lakes and mountains. Some data card software allows you to keyword search for specific locations.

Hd 3650 Requirements

The ATI Radeon HD 3650 video card has some modest requirements.

The ATI Radeon HD 3650 from AMD Technologies is a DirectX 10.1-compatible video card that supports high-definition playback up to 1080p, meaning it will support the latest high-definition video files, provided your monitor can support their resolutions. Your PC also has to meet other requirements before the video card can be used to its full potential.

PCI-E Support

Before you can use the ATI Radeon HD 3650 in any capacity, you must first have a computer that can support the hardware. A PC that has a motherboard that features a PCI-E (PCI Express) slot is necessary, specifically a PCI-E X16 slot. If you are unsure if you have a PCI-E x16 slot, it is easily identifiable, as it consists of a single long slot followed closely by a shorter slot. The shorter slot often has some sort of lever to release the video card.

Operating System

While the ATI Radeon HD 3650 works on any of the popular Windows operating system platforms, the card will not work if you do not have the proper software drivers. Basic drivers are included with a new Radeon HD 3650, but if you have acquired a used card you will likely have to download the drivers from ATI's website. Remember that each operating system has its own drivers, meaning Windows XP drivers will not work with Windows 7. AMD also offers driver support for several versions of Linux, in case your PC doesn't run Windows.

Power Supply

Because of the significant electrical consumption of the ATI Radeon HD 3650 video card, there are some power source requirements. AMD recommends that any computer that has a Radeon HD 3650 video card also have a power source that is certified to support both ATI video cards and ATI CrossFireX technology. If using a single Radeon HD 3650 card, you must have a power supply of at least 400 watts. If utilizing a dual card setup with CrossFireX, a 550-watt power supply is required.

RAM

Because the Radeon HD 3650 can process high-end computer graphics as well as stream high-definition video, a computer that uses the card requires some extra memory. In fact, at least 1 gigabyte of RAM is required for the Radeon HD 3650 to be able to run properly. Depending on the operating system, this figure may be slightly lower or slightly higher.

How Call Overseas For Free

Use an instant messenger's voice chat to call overseas for free.

Using a computer and an instant message program is one way to call overseas for free. Many instant messengers offer voice chat, enabling you to talk over the computer just as you would over the phone. The voice clarity is often better than phones. Several instant messengers also have video chat capabilities so that you can actually see the person you have called. The person on the other end of the line must have a computer with an Internet connection. You both must use the same instant messaging program, too.

Instructions

1. Ask the person you want to talk to to download the messenger you want to use if they do not have it. If someone does not wish to download a particular messenger because he uses another one, consider downloading the one he is using.

2. Visit the website of an instant messenger that offers free voice chat such as Skype, Yahoo Instant Messenger, AIM, GTalk or Windows Live Messenger. Click on the "Download" button.

3. Follow the download instructions, allowing files to open and agreeing to user terms (after reading them) as prompted. Create a username and password that you will remember.

4. Add the people you want to talk to to your contact list. You can do this by entering their email addresses or usernames under the "Add" or "Contact" buttons. A message will be sent to each person asking them if they want to be added to your contact list. When they accept, you can begin communicating via the messenger.

5. Plug your headset jacks into the appropriate places: microphone jack in the microphone hole and speaker jack in the speaker hole. Match the pictures on the ends of the jacks with the pictures of a headset and microphone on your computer.

6. Call someone you want to talk to from your contact list when you are both online and using the messenger by calling his computer or inviting him to voice chat.

Transfer A Tracfone To Another Prepaid

Cell phones can be transferred from one provider to another.

Porting from TracFone to another cell phone provider allows options to keep your existing number, contacts and in many cases, the same cell phone. Porting is the process of canceling TracFone service at the same time you activate the cell phone with another service provider. Porting is convenient to the user who wants to transfer to save money, as well as those who want to receive greater reception and better customer service.

Instructions

1. Consider the network infrastructure of both TracFone and the provider to which you will be transferring. Wire carriers in the United States use either CDMA or GSM networks. Code Division Multiple Access phones are only compatible with networks that support CDMA technology, like Sprint and Verizon. Global Systems for Mobile Communication is used by AT&T and T-Mobile.

GSM, which CNET Reviews says has a more global reach, uses SIM cards. The Subscriber Identity Module card is a portable memory chip which can be removed from one phone to another. With CDMA technology the user contacts the cell phone provider to program account information into the new phone. While many cell phone providers support both infrastructure technologies, some only support one or the other. The provider you're switching to will tell you if your existing phone is compatible for porting based on the new provider's network infrastructure.

2. Contact customer support to activate the phone with the new provider. The support technician will ask for your current TracFone telephone number, account information and the ESN/IMEI/MEID number of the TracFone. The ESN/IMEI/MEID number varies depending on the model of the phone.

Electronic Serial Numbers (ESN) is the unique identification number that a manufacturer embeds on a wireless phone's microchip, according to the Telecommunications Industry Association. When a call is placed, the ESN is transferred to the wireless carrier's mobile base station, allowing it to check the validity of the call. The International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number is usually found behind the battery. Every mobile phone has a unique IMEI number used only in identifying the device. Mobile Equipment IDentifier (MEID), says TSA, is a globally unique number for a piece of mobile station equipment. MEID is the replacement for the ESN.

3. Provide the new service provider with the ZIP code and current cell phone number.

4. Allow up to 24 hours for the porting process to complete. You will not be able to use the cell phone until the process completes.
