Tips To Get Free Minutes On Boost I450

There are a variety of ways to get free minutes on Boost i450 phones.

Boost Mobile is a unique cellular-phone company. It allows customers to pay as they go (when using their phones) and to have no contracts, fees or other charges that force them to use a cellular phone company for a set amount of time. The Boost i450 phone is one of the company's models of flip phones. There are many different ways to get free minutes with the i450, if you know use the phone and plans correctly.

Promotional Deals

The Boost Mobile company regularly releases promotional deals for its customers. For example, one deal that went on for a few years allowed existing customers to get 10 percent back on all the calls they made with their Boost Mobile phone, as long as they spent at least $10 per month and did so for three consecutive months. So, if customers' cell-phone bills totaled $100 after the three months, then they would receive $10 back, making those minutes, which amounted to 10 minutes, free. Different promotional deals similar to this are announced through Boost Mobile from time to time, but, often, you have to be a Boost Mobile customer to hear about them.

Unlimited Plan

For $50 a month, Boost Mobile users can talk, text, browse the web and do anything else for an unlimited amount of time on their Boost phones. This is an excellent option for people who talk or text daily; this option gives users many extra minutes, for which they would otherwise pay on a day-to-day or call-to-call mobile-phone plan, for free. As well, these Boost i450 users don't have to keep track of their talk time or amount of texts.

Reboosting Savings

Reboosting is a term used for Boost Mobile phones, which allows people to add more money to their phone's account so they can continue to talk and use their account still without signing any type of contract. Many times this is done through purchasing a promotional card with a preset amount of minutes, costing you a few extra dollars. For example, if you spend $50 on a Boost Mobile card, you'll ultimately pay $53 to $55 with tax. However, if you buy the card on eBay, you can save the tax you would have to pay and sometimes even get a discount on the card. There are also companies that sell universal mobile-phone cards that allow you to add minutes to your Boost i450 phone for even cheaper rates.

Geforce 6600 Installation

The Geforce 6600 is a video card developed by the NVIDIA. It offers multiple high performance features such as SLI-technology, 64-bit texture rendering and 128-bit interface GDDR3 memory. The Geforce 6600 is capable of rendering high-end video games and HD video on Windows, Macintosh and Linux operating systems. It also supports the latest video rendering drivers such as DirectX and OpenGL. The Geforce 6600 comes with either an AGP or PCI-Express connector depending on which model you purchased, so the installation may vary.

Instructions

1. Shut down your computer and unplug any peripheral devices and power cords. Remove the side cover of your computer case by unscrewing it or unlocking any release switches. Locate your current video card and remove it from the computer. Make sure to unscrew the mounting bay for the video card. Slide the card out slowly to prevent any damage.

2. Insert the Geforce 6600 into either an open AGP slot or PCI-Express slot depending on the card model. Make sure the card's gold conductor ends fit all the way into the slot. Once the card is in place, lock it in the mounting bay by either screwing it in place or locking it in.

3. Place the side panel back onto the computer and screw it into place. Next, reconnect any peripheral devices and power cords you disconnected. Connect your monitor cable to the back of the new Geforce 6600 video card. Screw the monitor cable locks into place to prevent the cable from wiggling or falling out. If your monitor cable does not fit, you may need to purchase an adapter from VGA to DVI or vice versa.

4. Turn on your computer and allow your operating system to load. Once your operating system loads, insert your Geforce 6600 driver CD. Make A Phone Call Go Straight To Voicemail

It is possible to set a cell phone to ring straight to voice mail.

There are many circumstances under which you wouldn't want to answer a phone call. Whether you are in an important meeting or a quiet theater or simply don't wish to talk to a particular individual, you can send a call to voicemail. The person calling will have the option to leave a message, and you won't have to speak with him directly. You can make a phone call go straight to voicemail if you set your cell phone to do so beforehand. If the person is already calling, you can send him to voicemail, though he will hear a ring or two on his end first.

Instructions

1. Turn off your cell phone. If your phone is powered off, all calls will be sent directly to voicemail. With most cell-phone carriers, the caller does not hear any rings prior to voicemail picking up.

2. Hit the "decline" button when someone calls. Most cell phones feature a "decline" or "ignore" button next to the "answer" or "connect" button. On some phones, this button may read "clear" or "end." When you hit this button, the caller is sent directly to your voicemail. Neither you nor the caller hears any additional rings.

3. Reduce the volume on your cell phone. If you are receiving a call, you can stop your phone from audibly ringing by pressing the "volume down" button. You won't hear any further rings, and the caller will be sent to voicemail. The caller will continue to hear the specified number of rings prior to your voicemail picking up the call.

4. Forward your calls directly to your voicemail. Call forwarding is an added service you can get from your provider. When you forward calls, callers are sent directly to your voicemail. Generally, neither party hears any rings. Call-forwarding instructions vary from carrier to carrier. Be aware that forwarding calls incurs additional charges on your monthly bill.

5. Use a direct-to-voicemail calling service if you wish to reach someone's voicemail directly. Services like Slydial bypass rings and send you straight to an individual's voice mailbox. You must first dial the service's phone number, then enter the phone number you wish to reach. You'll then be sent directly to the person's voicemail. The service is free, though you are required to listen to an advertisement before you are put through to the voicemail.

Repair Water Damage In Phones

You can usually restore a phone after water damage.

If you have dropped your phone in the sink and thought you lost all your information, you may still be able to save all your phone numbers and have your phone working again in a couple days. Not all damage can be reversed, especially if you have not begun resuscitating your phone quickly enough. Do not turn your phone on until you have tried a repair method.

Instructions

Fan Dry

1. Take the battery out. Do this immediately or you may further damage your phone because of the electricity left in your battery.

2. Remove the SIM card if your phone has one and dry it off. The SIM card usually can't be damaged by water alone as long as you dry it off before using it. Wipe off the faceplate with a smooth cloth.

3. Disassemble the phone completely at this point. You may need to use a screwdriver to take the faceplate off. The screws for that are usually in the same area as the battery.

4. Use a soft cloth or cotton swab to dry off any water you can see on the parts of the phone.

5. Lay the parts in front of a fan for 24 to 48 hours.

Bowl of Rice

6. Remove your battery, SIM card and/or memory card from your phone as soon as you can and dry them off.

7. Dry off your phone as best you can with a cloth and slightly shake your phone as you do so.

8. Gently blow dry phone with blow dryer on a low setting. This can remove a lot of moisture, but if water is visible in the phone's screen, do not use the blow dryer because it may leave a water mark behind the screen.

9. Place the phone in a bowl large enough for your phone to fit in and completely cover the phone in rice. The rice will need a few days to absorb water that was left in your phone.

10. Rotate your phone a couple times so the water that gets stuck will drain out. If there is water in your screen, set your phone in the bowl of rice vertically so the water will drain out of there as soon as possible.

Science Weather Instruments

Weather instruments measure variables used to predict weather patterns.

Meteorology, the study of weather patterns, depends on precise technical readings from a variety of instruments. Identifying values and changes in a variety of weather variables allows scientists to predict future weather patterns. Weather instruments measure wind speed, temperature, humidity, rain volume and other metrics of interest to amateur and professional meteorologists.

Barometer

Barometers measure atmospheric pressure. Barometers are usually cylinders partially filled with water or mercury. The level of liquid rises or falls with changes in atmospheric pressure. Other barometers consist of a special type of capsule called an aneroid cell. Changes in atmospheric pressure cause the expansion or contraction of the aneroid cell and move a measurement needle accordingly.

Thermometer

Weather people use thermometers to measure the outdoor temperature. Accurate outdoor thermometers are relatively inexpensive and allow you to keep track of patterns of heat or coolness. While most modern thermometers are digital, some utilize the expansion or contraction of mercury to provide temperature readings.

Wind Instruments

Many types of weather instruments measure wind patterns. The most simple are weather vanes, which rotate to show the compass direction of the wind. Wind socks are elongated cloth tubes that show wind direction and relative strength, though they lack precision.

More advanced wind equipment includes the anemometer, which measures wind speed and pressure. While early anemometers used spinning cups, most modern instruments use lasers or sonar technology to measure the wind. Weather professionals also use wind profilers, which are technologically advanced instruments that utilize the properties of sound waves to detect wind speed and direction. Wind profilers can measure wind at various altitudes, making them valuable weather instruments.

Gauges

Gauges measure the amount of precipitation that fell in a particular region. Rain gauges and snow gauges are common weather instruments used by both amateurs and professionals. Some rain gauges are simple cylinders with measurement markings. Others use electronics and measure the mass of rain or snow as it falls.

Weather Balloons

Meteorologists use weather balloons in conjunction with other weather instruments to take measurements at different altitudes. Balloons carry thermometers, barometers, altimeters and other instruments and electronically relay information back to a weather center. Meteorologists and weather research centers routinely use weather balloons to collect information.

How Do You Put Music On A Nokia Phone

How Do You Put Music on a Nokia Phone?

While it may not be possible to put music on every Nokia model (especially old models), most of the Nokia phones offered these days give users several options for adding music. Some of these options include downloading music from the Internet to your phone set, transferring music files via a Bluetooth device, or connecting your Nokia set directly to a computer via USB port.

Instructions

Download Music from the Internet

1. Figure out if your Nokia model gives you the option to access the Internet. Most modern-day Nokia phones allow users to log on to the Internet and download music files.

2. Figure out the music file type that is readable by your Nokia phone. Most Nokia sets support MP3 format, and the sound quality is optimal. MP3 files are also small in size, and quickly downloaded.

3. Access websites that allow users to download music files. Some of these websites include mp3.com and artistdirect.com.

4. Enter the names of the desired music files in the "Search" tab. The search results will show you a list of music files to choose from.

5. Select the right music file and click the "Download" option to start downloading. Depending on your phone set model, you may be asked to select the destination folder for the music files. If not, the files will be downloaded straight to the music folder of your Nokia cell phone.

Transfer Music Files via Bluetooth Device

6. Activate the Bluetooth device both on your Nokia phone and your computer. Look for other Bluetooth devices on your computer and pair them with your Nokia cell phone, when found.

7. Copy the music files you're looking to put on your Nokia phone and paste them in the appropriate folder of your Nokia phone. You can also drag these music files to the destination folder.

8. Disable the Bluetooth connection and play the music files to confirm that they have been properly transferred from your computer to your Nokia phone.

Transfer Music Files via USB Port

9. Connect your Nokia phone set to the computer via USB port. You may be asked to install your phone drivers on the computer.

10. Look for the phone drivers in the compact disc that accompanies the Nokia phone set. You may also search for the drivers online. Install the phone drivers on your personal computer.

11. Establish a connection with your phone set after the drivers are installed. Copy the music files on your computer and paste them in the appropriate folder of your Nokia phone set.

Can A 3g Cell Phone Be Used As A Modem For High Speed Internet Service On A Computer

Connect to the Internet using a 3G cellphone.

Many 3G cell phones have a modem capability. By linking a suitable cell phone to your computer, you can make a connection to the Internet via the mobile network, and use this connection to access the Web on your PC.

Requirements

In order to use a 3G cell phone in this way, your phone model must have a modem mode and you will usually need to install suitable driver software for the phone onto your computer. The driver software is often supplied on a CD-ROM with the phone or available for download from the manufacturer's website.

To connect to the Internet you must be in an area with a cellular data signal and have an airtime agreement which allows you to access the Internet.

Connectivity

The connection between your phone and computer is usually made by connecting a USB cable or by pairing the phone and PC using wireless Bluetooth connectivity. This connection allows the Internet data to flow between the phone and computer.

Costs

Accessing Internet data via a cell phone can be expensive. Cellular tariffs sometimes include an unlimited or set amount of Internet traffic; in other cases all data you download may be chargeable. Check with your cellular provider whether you have any inclusive data on your tariff, and if not, what the exact costs will be.

Be especially careful if you intend to connect to the Internet in this way when abroad and roaming on a foreign network. International data roaming charges can be extremely high.

Suggestion

If you have a restricted data allowance and want to reduce costs, ensure your computer is not configured to download updates as soon as you connect to the Internet. Downloading a large software update in the background could use up your data allowance. Consider postponing these updates until you have access to a fixed Internet connection.

Performance

You can expect Internet speeds to vary, based on a number of factors. The speed of the 3G network you are connected to, the capabilities of your phone handset and your cellular signal level are all significant. For best results, connect in an area with a strong, consistent 3G signal and remain stationary.

Sometimes, if a 3G Internet connection is not available your phone may be able to make a data connection using slower GPRS technology, with speeds comparable to dial-up Internet.

Identify A Voip Packet

A digital VOIP phone

In the last 10 years, many businesses and telephone companies have moved away from the traditional Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) to Internet-based telephony systems. The traffic on a network that is generated by a telephone is known as Voice-Over Internet Protocol, or VOIP. VOIP traffic has two main components: the signalling protocol such as SIP, H.323 or MGCP to control the call, and the Real-Time Transport Protocol (RTP) to carry the speech itself.

Instructions

1. Download Wireshark, a free packet-capturing tool (see Resources).

2. Install Wireshark on your machine, and open the application. From the home screen, look under the list of Network Adapters and select the network interface patched into the network that has the VOIP traffic running through it.

3. Click on the file menu, and select "Start Real Time Capture." Make (or attempt to make) a call using one of the VOIP phones. Make a note of the IP addresses of the two VOIP phones and the PBX.

4. Edit the Wireshark capture to specify UDP as a filter on the type of packets, as both signalling traffic (e.g., SIP) and voice traffic (RTP) are UDP protocols.

5. Order the capture by Source by clicking on the heading of the Source column so you can quickly jump to the packets of the VOIP phone from which you obtained the IP address in Step 3. Here you will see all the packets that the phone is transmitting, first to the PBX to establish the call, and then to the second IP phone when the call is established.

You can reset either code through the phone's security options.

Instructions

Reset Security Code

1. Press the "Menu" key from the home screen. Highlight and select "Settings."

2. Select "Security" and choose "Locks." Choose "Phone Protection." Select "Change Code."

3. Type in the previously used code. If you have not set a code, enter the default code of "0000." Press "OK."

4. Type in a four- to eight-digit code of your choice on the "Enter New Code" screen. Press "OK." Reenter the code to confirm and press "OK." The code is now reset.

Reset PIN Code

5. Press "Menu" from the home screen. Scroll to and select "Settings."

6. Choose "Security," then "Locks." Select "Smart Chip Protection."

7. Select "Change PIN." Enter your old PIN code and press "OK." (If you've never used a PIN code, enter the default PIN code of "1111" or "1234"--this is set by your carrier.)

Make A Phone Call From A Computer & Change Your Voice

Making phone calls from a computer can be free.

There are several different versions of free software that let users make phone calls over their computer. Most are easy to use and very inexpensive. However, voice altering is rarely a feature of these computer-to-phone calling programs, meaning if you want to maintain your confidentiality you're going to need to use separate downloadable voice changing software. Regardless, using the two in conjunction to make secure and unrecognizable calls is a straightforward process.

Instructions

1. Create an account with a Internet calling service such as Google Voice or Skype. You'll need to provide an email address and some basic personal information and then confirm your account via a confirmation email.

2. Test your Internet calling program by calling someone you know. If you're calling another computer, the user will need to install the same program and add you. If you're calling a land line, you may need to purchase calling credits with a credit card or via a Paypal account depending on your calling program. From there you can make calls directly to any phone, including cell phones. Receivers will be unaware you are calling from a computer unless they have caller identification.

3. Purchase a voice changing program once you have confirmed your Internet calling account is online. There are several programs on the market including AV Voice Changer Diamond 7.0 (link in the Resources section). These programs usually cost up to $100 and have a variety of features including pre-programed voiceprints that allow you to alter your voice without sounding like a serial killer from the movies.

4. Install the voice changing software and play around until you find a voice you are happy with. A headset is highly recommended as it will make the altered voice seem more natural and reduce interference from poor-quality computer-based microphones.

5. Call someone you know again. Confirm with them that your voice is altered and there is no way for a listener to know your identity.

6. Call your intended target using both programs in conjunction. Provided everything is correctly installed, you should be able to talk through your computer without the receiver having any idea who you are.

The Best Kind Of Mp3 Player

An MP3 is defined as "an MPEG standard used especially for digitally transmitting music over the Internet." For everyday people like you and I, we define an MP3 and MP3 player as something that is small, compact and contains all our favorite songs. MP3 players have completely removed the need for a "Walkman" and are even starting to make CDs somewhat irrelevant. There is no universal best MP3 player. It all depends on what you need and want to get out of it. Still, some features or components really make certain MP3 players stand out.

Hard Drive

The formula is simple. The more hard drive you want, the pricer the MP3 player will cost. The 32 GB MP3 is a very popular version. While the amount of music it can hold depends on encoding and the size of the files, on average it will hold thousands of music files, making it the ultimate music directory. Others do not see the need in purchasing such a large hard drive and will likely stick to something around six to 16 GB. Assuming an average size MP3 file, that is encoded at around 160Kbps, and about 3.5 minutes long, the size will be around 4Mb. While this is not a pure formula, it's a good equation to estimate how many songs the MP3 player will hold.

Cost

MP3 players start at $20 and can sell for more than $300. MP3 players are also becoming common on phones, so many people purchase an expensive phone that also acts as an MP3 player. If you just want an MP3 player, you can find a great value in the $40 to $80 range. Dirt-cheap MP3 players are usually extremely small and great for customers who will not use the MP3 player much, as it will likely only hold between 250 to 500 songs. High-end MP3 players will likely never be completely filled with music files because the hard drive is so large.

Additional Features

Almost all MP3 players feature an LCD screen that shows the artist, song name and time remaining. Some dirt-cheap MP3 players do not. Most MP3 players include simple features like a clock, alarm clock and browse window. Some MP3 players also include an FM radio. All MP3 players include a headphone jack, while some sport a small external speaker.

Function

MP3 players are very popular for exercising and other activities on the go. You want to make sure the MP3 player is light, compact and easy to carry. This generally is not a problem, as almost all of the MP3 players on the market weigh under a pound. If the MP3 player does not feature a clip, invest in something that will keep the MP3 player out of your pocket and free of your hands. Bands that go over the biceps and supports the MP3 player are very popular in today's world.

Charging

A few MP3 players are still battery operated. Avoid those unless you are willing to invest in rechargable batteries, as they will eat through batteries very quickly. Most MP3 players are sold with a Firewire or USB cable. Individuals charge the MP3 player simply by connecting the USB cable to the MP3 player and then to the computer. Charging usually takes two to four hours.

Uninstall Parts Of Microsoft Works

On any Windows-based computer, from the earliest form of Windows to the most recent Windows 7, you have complete control of all of the applications and components. You can remove any of the programs that came preloaded with your Windows setup, including Microsoft Works. Depending on which Windows operating system you use, however, you may have to completely remove Works and reinstall it to remove specific components. Older versions, like Works 2000, are more customizable.

Instructions

1. Click "Start" and "Control Panel" and then click on "Programs" to see a list of all of the programs installed on your computer. Scroll through the list until you see Microsoft Works, and then click on it once to select it. Look along the top of the window for three options: "Uninstall," "Change" and "Repair."

2. Click on "Change" if you are using Works 9 or newer and then click "Next." To remove components with Works 9, you have to uninstall the program and reinstall it using the custom setup option. Wait while the setup loads and then click "Next" to begin. Click "Reinstall" or "Remove," depending on what you want to do. "Remove" deletes all of the Works components, and you can then reinstall them from a disc or by downloading the parts you want from Microsoft. Click "Reinstall" to remove the components and replace them with new versions of your choosing. Wait while the software validates the current installation. Click "Continue" and then choose the components that you wish to install.

3. Scroll through the Add/Remove Programs list to find specific Works components to remove manually if desired. Some versions of Works install separate components in this list, including Microsoft System Information, Clip Art Gallery, Microsoft Word Art, Microsoft Draw, Microsoft Equation Editor, Microsoft Note-It and Shared Text Converters. Click any of these items and choose "Uninstall" or "Remove" to get it off of your system.

4. Hold down the "Shift" key and insert the Works CD to access the advanced Works setup through Add/Remove Programs. Holding "Shift" when you insert a CD prevents Windows from using its autorun features. With the Works disc in the drive, click "Install" in the Add/Remove Programs window. Click "Next," browse to the drive where the installation CD is, click "Finish" and then click "Next." Choose one of three options for your Works installation: "Remove," "Reinstall" or "Change Installation." Choose "Change Installation" and click "Next" to remove specific components using the Works setup wizard.

Email Ringtones To A Verizon Wireless Phone

Verizon Wireless customers can use email to send free ringtones to their phones.

Verizon Wireless allows users to add ringtones directly from their phones. These ringtones are not free, though. Users once were able to add ringtones to a Verizon phone free from various websites, but Verizon has put a stop to this. You can still send your favorite ringtone to any Verizon Wireless phone without paying a nickel, though, simply by using your email.

Instructions

1. Log onto your email account. You can use any email account to do this.

2. Enter the phone number as the recipient of the email. Don't put in any spaces or hyphens; the numbers should run together, such as 1234567890. You must put the entire phone number in, or the email will not work.

3. End the email address with "@vzwpix.com." This will send the email as if the ringtone were a picture message. The email address with the above phone number, then, would read "1234567890@vzwpix.com."

4. Browse your computer for the ringtone you want to send to the Verizon Wireless number. Once you've found the song, attach it in the email.

5. Send the email to the phone. It should take no more than five to 10 minutes for the phone to receive the message. If the phone does not receive the message in that time, resend the email.

6. Open the message on the phone and select "Options."

7. Scroll down until you see "Save as Ringtone." Select that option, and the ringtone will be saved to your phone. T

Make Conference Calls Using Google Talk

Originally designed to only support one-on-one voice communication over the Internet, the Google Talk application has added the ability to conduct multiple contact voice communication, also known as conference calling, to its set of features. Among its other features, Google Talk enables you to conduct multiple-contact typed conversations via instant messaging or chatting on a personal computer.

Google Talk Features

In addition to its ability to support typed and voice communication, Google Talk also allows you to transfer files from one personal computer to another instantly through an Internet connection. Unlike most instant messaging software, Google Talk allows you to connect to a variety of third-party IM clients, including Adium, iChat and Miranda. Third-party IM clients that are compatible with Google Talk depend on the type of operating system your computer uses. Computers that use Microsoft Windows, Apple Mac OS X and Linux operating systems are able to connect to limited amounts of third-party IM clients. Voice communication, including conference calls, is only possible with other Google Talk users.

Mobile Devices and Options

At the time of publication, the only mobile devices Google Talk is available for are BlackBerry mobile devices. While Google Talk only supports typed and voice communication, you can download and install a special plug-in and use the Gmail, Orkut or iGoogle applications to make voice and video calls using these Google applications. Your computer must be running the Microsoft Windows XP with Service Pack 3 or newer, Apple Mac OS X 10.5 or newer, or Linux operating systems for the video and voice features to work properly using Gmail or iGoogle. You must also have a webcam to use this functionality to its fullest.

Plug-In

The video and voice plug-in enables you to communicate with others via video or voice connections. If you do not have a webcam when the other party does, you can conduct a one-way video conversation in which you can see your contact, but you cannot be seen by your contact. This plug-in also allows you to conduct two-way, voice-only conversations. Since Google Talk also supports this type of conversation, you do not need the plug-in to do this.

Considerations

Before using Google Talk, first create a Google account. If you have a Gmail account, use that account's log-in information to access the Google Talk application. Google Talk is designed to work with a 56 kilobits per second dial-up Internet connection, although a high-speed broadband connection is recommended to get the most out of what the application has to offer. You need a speaker and microphone to utilize the application's voice features.

Set A Bluetooth Headset

The Bluetooth headset device serves as a viable asset in today's mobile communication age. This device gives you the benefit of hands-free mobile operation. You can conduct incoming and outgoing calls with the advantage of multi-tasking, rather than keeping the mobile device in hand. The Bluetooth headset's installation can easily be performed by anyone, and this step-by-step guide will provide the assistance that you need.

Instructions

1. Configure the physical Bluetooth headset for pairing. In order to pair the handset, you must ensure that it is powered on. Press the headset's multifunction button, which can be found in the middle of most headsets. Continue holding the multifunction button down until the headset's LED light powers on. Open the headset's microphone while the light is still on. It should also remain on once you have while the microphone is open.

2. Enable the mobile phone's Bluetooth device settings. Press the mobile device's "Menu" key on the mobile keypad. You screen should display a list of options or icons regarding the functionality of your mobile device. Click on the "Settings" or "Settings and Tools" icon on your mobile screen. Scroll through the list and locate the "Connection" icon, then locate and access the "Bluetooth" subfolder.

3. Activate the "Enable" or "Power" on command. (Command phrasing may vary depending on your mobile device.) Your phone should display an indication notifying you that your Bluetooth capability is now discoverable, which means you can now pair with other devices. Your Bluetooth device symbol should appear on your mobile device taskbar, which is usually next to your battery power indication icon. Once this indication has been configured, go back to the "Bluetooth" subfolder. Select the "Hands-Free" action and choose the "New Device" option. Your mobile device will now begin searching for compatible hardware.

4. Pair the headset with the mobile device. Select the model name of your Bluetooth headset when it appears on your mobile device screen. This indicates that the mobile device has detected the Bluetooth headset and that it is in range. Click on the model name as it is displayed on your mobile device screen. You will be prompted to enter a pass code for pairing confirmation. The pass code is usually 0000 for Bluetooth handsets and this code is always numerical regardless of the make and model of the headset and mobile device. Your mobile device screen should now display a confirmation about the status of the successful connection.

5. Set the mobile Bluetooth device to "On" for permanent configuration of the headset. Press the "Menu" command on the mobile keypad. Go back to the "Settings" or "Settings and Tools" folder and select "Connections." The Bluetooth device folder will be listed as a subfolder in the "Connections" folder. This time, select the "Setup" command and scroll to "Power." Change these settings to "Power On" to permanently set the Bluetooth headset to the mobile device.

Set Up Push To Talk

Push-to-Talk (PTT) is a walkie-talkie, two-way radio service that allows mobile users to communicate with one another with the simple push of a button. The walkie-talkie feature allows for the quick communication between two parties nationwide and without using their monthly allotment of minutes. The service is available on all major wireless providers; however, to use PTT, subscribers must be on the same wireless provider's network.

Instructions

1. Start the service. Press and release the "PTT" button on your phone. The next screen will appear and ask if you want to initialize PTT service; select "Yes." The next prompt will ask you to enter your desired name. Choose a unique PTT name; you can use up to 20 character. Save your name. After you enter and save your name, the service will initialize. Once the initialization is completed, you will receive a notification telling you you can use the service.

2. Organize your contacts. Push to Talk service cannot be used across wireless providers. For example a Verizon PTT user cannot use the service to communicate with an AT&T PTT user. Therefore, it is important to know which of your contacts subscribe to your wireless provider and are PTT subscribers as well. Make a list of these contacts because they will be added to your PTT contact list.

3. Set up your PTT list. Select the "Menu" key on your wireless device. Use your track ball or navigation keys to scroll over and highlight "Add Contact." Enter the name and cell phone number of the PTT subscriber. Press "Save." After you save the subscriber's name, an invitation will be sent to the desired contact. Once the desired contact accepts the invitation, you will be able to contact them using the PTT feature.

4. Creating a group. Select the "Menu" key on your wireless device. Use the navigation keys to highlight and select "Add Group." Create a name for the group that will help to distinguish it on your PTT list. You will then need to add members to the group. This feature may vary depending on your phone model. The majority of phones will allow you to select contacts from a list of people already on your PTT list. Select the name of every contact you want to add. Each contact will be sent an invitation to join your group. A group invitation will be sent to selected contacts; once the invitations are accepted, the group will be fully functional on your device.

What Do You Do When You Do Not Know Your Puk Code On Your Phone

The PUK code governs your SIM card rather than your phone.

While beefing up your cell phone security can protect your wireless account from thieves, requiring a PIN code to use your device could also thwart you. If you incorrectly enter your code too many times, your phone may prompt you to enter the PIN Unlock Key, or PUK, instead. This security feature is designed to protect your SIM card from abuse by others. Knowing track down your PUK code can help you to quickly regain access to your phone and avoid the costly replacement of your SIM card.

Obtaining Your PUK Code

You can get the PUK code in a few different ways. If you have the packaging that came with your SIM card -- which wireless retailers sometimes advise to keep in a safe place -- the PUK code is often printed on the plastic card to which the SIM was initially affixed. If you've already discarded this packaging, contact your wireless service provider to request the code. While some carriers allow you to submit these kinds of requests online, the quickest way to obtain your PUK code is to simply call your carrier. Your wireless service provider will give you the code after you prove your identity by providing the last four digits of your social security number or your account password.

Code Entry

With your PUK code in hand, you can now attempt to regain access to your phone. If the screen currently displays a prompt directing you to enter the code, do so carefully. If the prompt is not currently on screen, turn the phone off and then back on; the prompt should appear after the reboot. Enter the code and follow any other on-screen directions to unlock your device. You may be directed to create a new SIM PIN; enter a code that you will definitely remember going forward.

PUK Blocked

If your phone displays "PUK Blocked," it means that you've entered an incorrect code 10 times in a row. When this happens, the phone permanently scrambles the SIM card in order to prevent the theft of your personal information, so you have to purchase a new SIM card in order to regain access to your phone. Obtain replacement SIM cards from wireless retail outlets. If there are no retail locations for your service provider nearby, call your provider and order one over the phone. Some carriers also allow you to purchase replacements from their websites.

Retaining Your PUK Code

As your PUK code is always available from your wireless provider, you may not wish to write it down for the sake of storage. However, doing so could help you avoid the additional hassle of requesting the code should you ever need it again. If you decide to keep the code for future reference, be sure to store it at home rather than your wallet or purse; this makes it more difficult for potential thieves to thwart your cell phone security and gain access to your account.

What Does A Gprs Connection Mean On Cell Phones

What Does a GPRS Connection Mean on Cell Phones?

A GPRS connection on cell phones stands for General Packet Radio Service. GPRS is a data communications standard for users of Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) cellular phones. GPRS allows phones to offer always-on Internet access and Web-based instant messaging.

Features

GPRS allows cell phones to send and receive data at near-broadband speeds. These fast speeds allow websites to load quickly and make sending picture and video messages possible.

Identification

A GSM phone that has GPRS data services can be identified by opening the phone's system settings menu. The menu will list all frequencies on which the phone can operate, and GPRS will be noted if available.

Considerations

Most GPRS devices can use data and voice services, but not simultaneously. In order to use data, a phone call must be ended, and to use the phone, all data transfers must be stopped.

Types

While GPRS download speeds are sometimes closer to dial-up than broadband Internet connections, services like EDGE, offered by AT&T in the United States, allow faster GPRS connections when possible.

Warning

If you use a GPRS connection for uploading and downloading large files, be sure to monitor your network usage. All carriers in the United States impose a 5 gigabyte per month bandwidth limit for GPRS mobile Internet users. Exceeding this threshold may result in overuse fees being billed to your account.

Replace The Battery In A Bmw X5

Unlike on most cars and trucks, you find the X5's battery in the trunk.

BMW began manufacturing the X5, its first sports utility vehicle, in 1999 (on its website, BMW refers to the X5 as a "sport activity vehicle"). The company produces the X5 line in a variety of models and engine options, all of which feature all-wheel drive. While BMW has included a set of battery terminals -- for jump-starting a spent battery -- underneath the hood of the car, the battery itself lies in the rear. If the battery in your X5 dies and you cannot restart the car via a jump-start, you'll need to replace it by first removing the old battery.

Instructions

1. Turn the car off.

2. Pop the rear hatch of the vehicle by either using your key to unlock the hatch or by pressing the "rear hatch" open button on the electronic key fob.

3. Remove the floor cover. The battery for the X5 sits underneath the spare tire compartment, which you can access by pulling up and sliding out the floor cover. Take out the spare tire and set it aside.

4. Unscrew the bolts holding the battery cover in place. The battery cover consists of a metal dome mounted atop a triangular frame. Use the wrench to unscrew the four bolts holding the dome to the triangular frame and then unscrew the four bolts that fasten the frame. Set the bolts aside.

5. Unscrew the black, negative wire from the negative terminal. Set the adjustable wrench to the diameter of the bolt holding the wire to the terminal. Then loosen it enough so that you can slide the wire from the terminal post.

6. Slide back the cover from the positive terminal and then unscrew the red, positive wire from the positive terminal. Unlike the negative wire, the positive wire contains a small plastic cover that sits over the terminal. After you lift it up and away from the terminal post, unscrew the bolt holding the red wire in place enough so that you can lift it away from the terminal post.

7. Pull the battery up and out of the battery compartment. Place the new battery in the compartment with the same alignment as the old one. If you've put it in correctly, the terminal posts should sit closer to the front end of the car.

8. Connect the red wire to the positive terminal and then tighten the bolt to secure it to the post. Connect the black wire to the negative terminal in the same manner.

9. Replace the battery cover, spare tire and floor cover, in that order.

If The Computer Hangs Up What Do You Do First

If you use computers long enough, eventually you will have one hang up while you are using it. Computer hang-ups can be frustrating, causing lost work and delays, and even damaging files. If your computer freezes while you are working on something important, you should take a few steps to determine how bad the problem is and if there is an easy solution.

Check the Drive Light

First, look at the drive activity light on the front of your computer. Sometimes during heavy disk activity, your computer may slow down to the point where it seems to be hung up, but in reality, it's simply trying to clear memory or move files. If the drive activity light is flashing or you hear active drive activity, give your computer a few minutes and see whether it returns to normal performance. If it does not, or if the light remains off or pulses regularly, it could indicate the computer has hung up.

Close the Program

You should also try moving your mouse. If you can move the cursor on the screen, that indicates that most likely a single program has crashed, and not your whole system. You may be able to close the affected program by clicking the "X" in the top-right corner, or right-clicking on the program's icon in the task bar and selecting "Close." You may receive a warning about possible loss of data, but if you can close the hung program without affecting others, you can limit the amount of damage the shutdown can cause.

Task Manager

If you cannot close the program using the mouse, or the mouse is unresponsive, you should try to bring up the Task Manager. Hold down the "Control" and "Alt" keys, and press "Delete." Click the option to start the Task Manager, and it will open with a list of applications currently running on your system. From here, you can select the frozen program and force Windows to shut it down. It may take more than one try, and it may take Windows a few minutes to properly shut down the program, so do not worry if it seems to be unresponsive. If you are not sure which program to shut down, look for entries that include the tag "Not Responding" next to the program name.

Reset

If you cannot bring up the Task Manager, or if you cannot shut down the frozen program, you will have to restart your system. Press the reset button on the front of your PC for a few seconds until your computer reboots. If this does not work, you can reach around to the back of your computer and turn off the power supply, wait 30 seconds for everything to shut down and then turn your computer back on. Resetting or rebooting your computer will return you to a fresh instance of Windows, however, and you will lose any unsaved work you have open.

Transfer Your Landline Phone Number To The Internet

VoIP allows you to update your land line phone service to Internet phone.

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) offers an alternative to land-line phone service. VoIP uses your DSL or cable Internet connection to provide home phone service. It offers many of the same features as traditional land-line service, including caller ID, call block and call waiting. And it's cheaper than a land line. You can keep your phone number if you will be living in the same area.

Instructions

Vonage

1. Call Vonage customer service. You will be required to provide your name, Social Security number and your billing address. Your Vonage adapter will be shipped to your billing address. If you keep your current phone number it may take seven to 10 business days for the transfer to be completed.

2. Unplug the power cord from your modem.

3. Unplug the yellow Ethernet cable from the back of your modem and plug it into the yellow Ethernet port on the back of your Vonage adapter.

4. Plug the blue Ethernet cable provided with your adapter into the blue port on the back of the adapter and into the LAN Ethernet port (marked "LAN") on the back of your modem.

5. Plug the power cable into your adapter and into a power outlet. The adapter will take several seconds to power on. It will walk you through the setup wizard.

6. Plug your home phone into the phone "1" port of your adapter using a traditional phone cord. Your home phone is now ready for use. You will be required to cancel your land-line phone service if you have not participated in local number portability.

Comcast

Create A Web Sitemap

A Web sitemap is generally an XML-based document that helps search engines more easily discover and index pages or posts on your website. A sitemap lists all of your site's URLs and contains metadata about each one. You can submit your sitemap to various search engines, such as Google and Yahoo, to inform them of your site and increase indexing rates or decrease initial time to get indexed. A sitemap does not guarantee your site will show in search engines and does not determine ranking, though.

Instructions

Using XML-Sitemaps.com

1. Access XML-Sitemaps.com (see Resources).

2. Enter the URL of your website in the "Starting URL" section of the page.

3. Set your change frequency using the drop-down menu. This is the estimated time between content changes on your site. If you publish a lot of content you may want to set it as "Always, Hourly or Daily."

4. Set your last modified date and time. This would be the last time you published something on your site. If your site is new, this would be the date and time your site went live.

5. Select your "Priority" from the Priority drop-down menu. It is recommended that you set it to "Automatic Priority." This will automatically determine the priority of various pages.

6. Click "Start" at the bottom. Wait for your sitemap to be created. Large sites may take awhile.

7. Select the format in which you wish to download your new Web sitemap. Download and save the file to your computer, then upload it to your website using your preferred FTP access method.

Using AuditMyPC.com

8. Access AuditMyPC.com's sitemap generator (see Resources). Make sure you are on the "Settings" tab at the top of the interface when it opens.

9. Enter the URL of your website in the "URL" section of the page. You can leave the Project Title set as the default.

10. Type in any page filters you may need. If this section is left blank, all pages and addresses will be indexed.

11. Leave the "Rules" section at its default settings. This will provide with the most complete sitemap.

12. Make sure "Add Skipped Links to the Sitemap" is not checked and click the "Play" button at the bottom of the interface on the left-hand side. Wait for your sitemap to be created.

13. Click the "Sitemap" tab at the top of the interface.

14. Click "Export" in the secondary navigation at the top left of the interface and select the type of sitemap you need. XML sitemaps are generally the most accepted by search engines.

15. Select a location on your computer to save the file, retitle it if necessary and click "Save" at the bottom of the Save window. You can now upload it to your website using your preferred FTP access method.

Using SitemapDoc.com

16. Access SitemapDoc.com (see Resources). Make sure you are on the "Create New Sitemap" tab at the top.

17.Enter the root URL of your website in the "URL to Map" field in the middle, left of the page.

18. Select if you also want an HTML version of the Sitemap created. Click "Create Sitemap." Wait for your sitemap to be created.

19. Unselect any pages you do not want included, have errors or were not found. Set your last modified date, change frequency and priority for each page or leave the defaults (this will depend on how and when you want search engines to index your material and how frequently you want them to know you are changing content).

20. Click "XML Sitemap" above where the entries are listed. Highlight all the code shown from "

21. Open Notepad or your other code editing software and paste the copied code from Step 5 by pressing "Control" and "V" on your keyboard. Save your sitemap to your computer. Make sure to title it something easy.

22. Upload it to your website using your preferred FTP access method. Remember to place it in your root folder.

Find Your Vocal Range

Find Your Vocal Range

Determining your vocal range can be done quickly by a good choral music director or another well-trained vocalist. It can be accomplished by yourself if you have basic music skills or access to a qualified pianist.

Instructions

1. Use an accompanist & a recently tuned piano to identify the top & bottom pitches.

2. Sing the first five notes of the D-major scale going up and down, using the words, "one-two-three-four-five-four-three-two-one."

3. Breathe deeply and be relaxed. Sing the same pitches on "me-oh-my-oh-meee-oh-my-oh-meeee." Hold the top and the final pitch. Be at ease.

4. Have the pianist change the scale by moving up one half-step and playing the E-flat major scale.

5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 in this new key. Continue moving up scales a half-step at a time, using a relaxed jaw and tongue. Avoid any strain or tension in the throat or neck.

6. Produce the top note of this exercise in F major. The pitch is C. If this pitch is at your highest comfort level, C is the top of your vocal range.

7. Continue your ascent as your comfort allows without pinching the sound. The pianist can identify the uppermost notes and the degree of ease you exhibit.

8. Start on the note G and reverse this exercise by singing "five-four-three-two-one-two-three-four-five" in the key of C major.

9. Identify your lowest note in the same manner. The lowest note must resonate and be clear. Your vocal range will grow slowly with wise guidance, regular practice and care.

Open A Locked Sim Card

Open a Locked SIM Card

Opening a locked SIM (subscriber identity module) card will allow you to have the same phone number and plan on multiple GSM devices. This can be beneficial for those who do not want to enter another contract when purchasing another phone, reduced roaming charges and possibly use GSM devices outside the country. Obtaining a few technical pieces of information from your cell phone will allow you to unlock the SIM card in a short amount of time.

Instructions

1. Determine the IMEI number for your phone. The IMEI number, which stands for international mobile equipment identifier, allows cell phone providers to know the model and type of phone you have. An IMEI number is similar to a serial number. Access the security settings of your phone to find out your IMEI number, or turn the phone off remove the battery and locate the 15-digit IMEI number.

2. Determine the specific model number of your device. The model number can either be found on the original boxes your mobile phone came in, when you turn the phone on, or you can remove the battery and locate the model number on the back of the phone.

3. Contact your cellular phone provider to determine if they can provide you with an unlock code. Depending on the type of phone you have, your provider may be able to offer you the unlock code and instructions. Have your IMEI and phone model when you call in.

4. Locate online resources that will provide an unlock code for your phone if you do not feel comfortable contacting your cellular provider. There is usually a fee involved, which is minimal, as little as $5 to $25. (See the Resources section.)

5. Follow the instructions based on the model of your phone to input the unlock code. Each phone model operates differently when inputting an unlock code. Many sites online will provide you with specific instructions to input an unlock code for your SIM card. For example, Unlocktotalk.com provides instructions for unlocking your phone.

About Unlocked Phones

In the United States, where cell phone carriers frequently offer cheap or free phones as incentives to draw customers, cell phones are typically "locked" so that they can only be used with that particular carrier. However, in most other countries, especially in Europe and Asia, unlocked cell phones are the norm. For Americans who travel internationally, an unlocked cell phone allows them to purchase prepaid local service to make and receive calls inexpensively.

GSM vs. CDMA Networks

Cell phones that run on the GSM (Groupe Speciale Mobile or Global System for Mobile Communications) network use SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) cards to store the user's personal information and cell phone settings. SIM cards are interchangeable from one unlocked cell phone to another. In the United States, two major American mobile phone providers, T-Mobile and AT&T run on the GSM system. Their cell phones use SIM cards.

Prepaid SIM cards for individual countries or for general international use are relatively inexpensive and allow the user to make and receive calls economically when traveling internationally. Most of the world's cell phones use the GSM network.

Most cell phones in the United States run on the CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) network, which do not use SIM cards. However, in the future, R-UIM (Re-Usable Identification Module) cards, in use in China since 2002, promise to make interchangeability possible for CDMA network cell phones in the United States. In the United States, Verizon Wireless, Sprint Nextel and a number of regional carriers such as Alltel and U.S. Cellular use the CDMA network.

Using Unlocked Cell Phones Internationally

Unlocked cell phones that run on the GSM network can be used with any carrier, domestic or international, as long as the proper SIM card is inserted and the cell phone has the capability to transmit along the band wavelength of the country where the caller is located. GSM carriers in the United States, Canada and many parts of Latin America use the 1900 and 850 bands. The 1900 band is used in concentrated urban and developed areas, while the 850 band is frequently used in more remote areas. Two other bands, 900 and 1800, are used throughout Europe and in much of the rest of the world. A quad-band phone supports all four bands and will work nearly everywhere. Less expensive tri-band cell phones generally support the 1900, 850 and 1800 bands and are sufficient for travel in the United States and Europe.

Purchasing Unlocked Cell Phones

Presently all unlocked cell phones in the United States use the GSM network. Cell phone service providers almost never sell unlocked phones, but third-party retail outlets often do. Several online outlets also sell unlocked cell phones, including Amazon.com. Another reputable online dealer is Telestial, which also offers prepaid SIM cards and international calling cards along with unlocked cell phones. It is also possible to purchase unlocked cell phones when traveling overseas, particularly to Europe and Asia. However, prices are often very high, especially for sophisticated multi-featured models.

Unlocking a Cell Phone

It is also possible to have one's own cell phone unlocked to use with multiple carriers or with prepaid SIM cards, if it uses the GSM network, though the process is often tricky and may be expensive. Worse, if not done correctly the phone may become unusable. Some cell phone service carriers will unlock cell phones for customers upon request, especially after the expiration of initial contract periods. A number of free and paid unlock codes are available online, although it's wise to check out any Internet retailer before sending any money or providing a credit card number.

Considerations

The two cell phone networks, GSM and CDMA, are incompatible with one another. Consumers should keep this in mind when considering a change in cell phone providers.

Since unlocked cell phones must nearly always be purchased through retail outlets, the price is often prohibitively high. In addition, some or many of the advanced features of an unlocked cell phone may work differently than they would with a cell phone programmed by the carrier, or not at all. Before purchasing an unlocked cell phone for international travel, be sure that the phone supports the band(s) used in the country or countries planned for visits during the trip.

Reinstall A Sound Device In My Computer

Reinstall a Sound Device in My Computer

Sound devices in your computer control everything you hear from alerts that the operating system creates to music and video tracks that you hear while you play multimedia files. If your sound device has stopped working for some reason, reinstalling it can help solve your sound issues. If you need to reinstall a sound device in your computer, you can do so with relative ease by using the Device Manager control panel in your computer.

Instructions

1. Click on the "Start" button, open the "Control Panel" and select the "Administrative Tools" option from the Control Panel menu. Inside the Administrative Tools window, open the "Device Manager."

2. In the Device Manager window, select the plus symbol next to the "Sound, video and game controllers" to expand that section. Locate the sound device that you wish to reinstall, right click on it, select the "Uninstall" option and confirm that you wish to uninstall the device. Wait a moment for the device to become uninstalled, and it will disappear from the Device Manager. Close the "Device Manager" window once this occurs and restart your computer.

3. Log back into your computer once it starts up and wait for the computer to automatically detect the sound device. Once this detection occurs, the computer will ask you to provide a driver for the device, or it will ask if you want to let the computer go online to find the driver. If the driver you have is an EXE setup file, cancel the automatic detection window, and install the drive for the sound device via the installation file. If the driver you have is an INF or similar file, provide the automatic detection program with the path to that file, and allow the driver installation process to proceed. Once the driver installation process has finished, the sound device has been successfully reinstalled.

Take your laptop to a Verizon store and have it added if you need help. An icon, VZAccess Manager, will show on your desktop for access to tether your phone with Verizon dial up.

3. USB cord

Plug in the USB end of the cord to your computer. Plug in the other end to your phone, the same as the opening used for your phone charger.

4. Connect to the Internet by tether.

Click on the icon "VZAccess Manager" then on "connect" in the box shown. The VZAccess Manager Set-up Assistant will automatically load the first time. Follow instructions given to finish setting up the program. You can find other information in this screen later, such as other available networks, signal strength, tools and options. A help section is available near the top of the screen. Minimize the box after viewing areas you want to see. Do not close it as this will end the connection.

5. Tether to the web.

Close the smaller box popping up that shows your Internet usage for the month after viewing. This information is also available in the bigger screen of VZAccess Manager. Use the Internet as you normally do on your computer.

6. Disconnect by clicking on the "VZAccess Manager" icon then on "disconnect," or unplug your phone from the USB cord. Both ways cause the Internet to disconnect. Answering incoming calls or making calls may disconnect the tether to your computer.
