Connect Sip With Skype


Skype introduced Session Initiation Protocol, or SIP, in late 2009 to offer businesses an easy way to connect their PBX telephone servers with the Skype service. Skype for SIP makes it possible to call all over the world at the competitive rates Skype offers and allows customers, clients and others to call your business directly with Skype. With your SIP line connected to Skype, all calls made between your business lines and other Skype accounts are free, making it a cost-efficient way to reduce phone costs.


Instructions


1. Register for a free Skype account at the link in the "Resources" section of this article if you do not have one. If you are establishing a Skype for SIP account for a business, it is recommended that you select a login that reflects this.


2. Register for a free Skype Business Control Panel account on the second "Resources" link in this article. You will be required to submit business contact details and other information pertaining to your company to complete the Skype Business Control Panel registration process.


3. Login to your Skype Business Control Panel account.


4. Click the "Company" tab and select "Skype for SIP Beta" from the sidebar on the left.


5. Click "Set up Skype for SIP beta" to begin the connection process.


6. Enter a "Profile" name for the particular SIP phone you plan to connect to Skype.


7. Enter the number of "Channels" required for your SIP phone. The wizard will include some guidelines on determine an appropriate number of concurrent channels.


8. Pay the subscription fee based on the number of channels you will be setting up for your SIP phone system. This subscription fee is a monthly charge that you can pay from the Business Control Panel balance.


9. Review the configuration to ensure that the subscription details are correct and then click "Confirm Purchase".


10. Note the SIP account details, as these credentials will be used to connect your PBX phone to the Skype for SIP account. These details are accessible at any time from the Business Control Panel.


11. Input your Skype for SIP username and password into your SIP-enabled PBX phone.


12. Test the Skype for SIP connection by placing a test call to the Skype testing number, +1760-660-4690, to verify acceptable sound quality and proper configuration.
