Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) allows you to make phone calls using your existing Internet connection. VoIP is often considered one of the cheapest way to make international calls. VoIP service providers give you an adapter when you subscibe for service. You will also need a working DSL or broadband Internet connection to set up a VoIP connection at your home or workplace.

2. Connect one end of an Ethernet cable to the "Ethernet" port on the back of your DSL or cable modem. Connect the other end to the "Internet" port on your router.

3. Plug a second Ethernet cable into an open "Ethernet" port on the rear of the router. Plug the other end into the "Ethernet" input jack on the back of the VoIP adapter that your service provider has sent.

4. Use a telephone cable to connect one of the telephone output jacks on the back of the VoIP router. Connect the other end of the cable into a standard telephone device.
