Sign A Sis Nokia Application File

Sign your SIS installer with a valid digital certificate.

When you create an application for use on Nokia phones, the installer is encoded as a SIS file. Before distributing a SIS file, you must first "sign" that file with a digital security certificate. To sign your file, you must download a free Symbian signing application. Once the application is installed, then you can apply a digital certificate to your SIS file with just a few clicks.

Instructions

1. Obtain the digital certificate that you wish to apply to your application. You can obtain either a Symbian Signed certificate from a certification authority or you can use a self-signed certificate that you generate yourself with an application.

Self-signed certificates work for applications that do not require access to network services, user environment variables, local services or user data. Symbian Signed certificates are appropriate for applications that need administrator-level access to system processes. Obtaining a Symbian Signed certificate requires applying to a certification authority, paying a fee and submitting your application for testing.

2. Open your web browser and navigate to the SignSis download page located at www.gosymbian.com/SSIS_download.html

3. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the "SignSIS-GUI" link located under the "Downloads" heading. Save the installation file to your computer.

4. Run the downloaded EXE file to initiate the installation wizard, then follow the on-screen prompts to install the SignSIS application to your computer.

5. Run the SignSIS application and click "SignSIS" at the main window.

6. Click the "..." button next to "DevCert" and navigate to the folder that contains your certificate. Select the certificate file, and click "Open" to continue.

7. Select the "..." button next to "Input.sis" and navigate to the folder that contains the SIS file that you wish to sign. Click the file and click "Open" to continue.

8. Click the "..." button next to "Output.sis" and navigate to the folder where you would like to output your SIS file. Type the output file name in the "File Name" field and click "Save" to continue.

9. Select the "SignSIS!" button. The SignSIS application signs your SIS file with the provided certificate.
