The Features Of Tracfones

TracFone is a prepaid wireless company that offers no contracts. They operate on the networks of major regional and national wireless carriers to offer a vast national coverage. TracFone subscribers have three options for their cell phone plans. They may use Pay-As-You-Go, purchase annual plans or use monthly plans with no contracts.

Voicemail

Voicemail allows a caller to record a message when you cannot be reached. All TracFone devices are voicemail enabled. You can access voicemail by a landline phone or through your TracFone device. If you choose to access your voicemail through your TracFone device, standard airtime rates will apply.

Text Messaging

Text messages are short messages of 160 characters or less, sent to your TracFone device for you to read. This feature is available on all digital and GSM TracFone models. Text messaging rates vary by phone model, but will either cost three or five cents apiece for both sent and received messages. As of October 2010, international text messaging is not available on TracFone devices.

Caller ID

Caller ID is available on digital and GSM TracFone devices and shows the number of the person who is calling on the phone screen. This service is free with your TracFone device and activates automatically when you activate your phone.

Call Waiting

Call Waiting allows you to receive an incoming call while you're already on another call. All GSM and digital TracFone models have this feature. When you receive an incoming call during an existing call, your TracFone device will alert you and give you the option of putting your existing call on hold to answer the new call. This feature is free and automatically activates when you activate your phone.

Long Distance

A long distance call will subtract one available minute from your pre-loaded minutes per minute that you are on the call. If you are using a CDMA phone and roaming, it may cost two minutes per minute that you are on the call. All TracFone models include long distance calling, and it is activated once you activate your phone. You may also make calls to over 60 international locations for the same cost as calls within the United States.

Bluetooth

Bluetooth is wireless and replaces cables for accessories you may use with your phone, such as a headset or hands-free device. Bluetooth can operate from up to 30 feet away. Some TracFone models even allow you to send ringtones, pictures or other files to another Bluetooth-enabled phone. As of October 2010, the TracFone models that are Bluetooth-enabled are the Motorola W376g; the Samsung T301g, T401 and R451; and the LG 600G, 420G, 231C and 220C.

Downloads

Certain TracFone models allow you to download ringtones, graphics and games and access some mobile web content. Each time you access the mobile web, half a minute will be deducted for every minute used, and browser access of less than one minute is rounded up to a full minute. As of October 2010, the phones that offer downloads are the Motorola C261, V176, W370 and W376; the LGc225, 600g, 100c, 220c, 290c, 420g, and 231c; and the Samsung 101G, T155G, 301G, T401 and R451. Prices vary by the content you download.
