Automatically Update The Time On A Cell Phone

Most cell phones can be configured to automatically update the time and date.


Many of us know how the frustration that comes from having phones that don't update time automatically. In an age where cell phones double as watches and alarm clocks, it's critical that the time they display be accurate lest their owners miss exams, business meetings, appointments and more. Whether you're crossing time zones or switching back and forth between Standard and Daylight Savings Time, there are many ways that the time on your phone can be thrown off course. Fortunately, there are some simple methods for ensuring your phone update the time automatically without incident.


Instructions


1. Go to your phone's Settings menu. Depending on your phone, this may be called something other than "Settings": "Options," "Preferences" and "Utilities" are also common names for this menu. Within the Settings menu, go to Time and Date settings. Find an option that lets you automatically update or synchronize the time using the network of your service provider.


2. Enable the automatic synchronization on your phone. It will communicate with the closest cell phone tower in your area to determine the appropriate date and time for your location. Leave the option enabled so that it can recalibrate with nearby cell phone towers on a frequent basis. If you can't find an automatic synchronization function on your phone, turn it off.


3. Remove the batteries from your cell phone after it has been in the off position for several minutes. It is important to wait so that you don't disrupt any important electrical connection or shock yourself. Reinsert the batteries into your cell phone. This effectively resets your phone, meaning that the phone will have to connect to a nearby cell phone tower in order to get such info on the date and time.


4. Restart your phone. When it comes on, check the time to make sure that it is now correct.
