Unlock An Nokia Phone

In most cases, when you buy a cellular phone, you will find that the company that sold you the phone will have locked it. This means you can only use their network and even changing the Subscriber Identity Module or SIM card will not help. Note that there are people, online and offline, who offer unlocking services for a fee, but there's often no need to pay for such services while you can do it yourself at negligible cost.

Instructions

Unlock an Nokia Phone

1. Contact your service provider for the unlock code. This is the best way to get the unlock code because it is free of charge. But remember this will not work if you are trying to change the network.

2. Visit a website offering Nokia phone unblocking software to get the unlocking code. You can get such a website with a simple Internet search. Most of the codes are given without monetary charge and the companies even offer customer support whenever something goes wrong. From this website, download the unblocking software.

3. Find the cellular phone's serial number after you have gotten the code. This is called an IMEI number and it is usually found underneath the battery of the phone. You can also type in *#06# to get the serial number.

4. Key in the manufacturer (Nokia) code with the Nokia phone unblocking software, and slide the SIM card out. Proceed to put the battery back in and power the phone.

5. After powering the phone, you will get a message reading 'Insert SIM Card.' Here, key in all the characters you have received as the unblock code, making sure you do not leave out the # symbols. You have to key in a 'p' which is gotten by pressing the * button three times. The '+' will be gotten by pressing the * key two times and the 'w' by press the * key four times. When entering the unblock code, disregard the spaces.

6. In most cases, you can unlock your Nokia cellular phone with only one code. This is usually the first one given and it is given as MCC+MNC. If this does not work, use the Multilock code, which is usually the seventh code.

7. When you enter a code that works, you will receive a message reading 'SIM is not restricted' or 'Restriction off', depending on the model of the phone. Note that if you enter an unlock code and the message is 'Cannot undo restrictions', that phone is hard-locked and a code cannot unlock it.
