Unlock A Pantech Duo

Unlocking a mobile phone requires a SIM unlock code from the service provider.

Most major wireless service providers are constantly trying to best each other in the rate plan department. It's easy to see why a wireless subscriber would want to jump ship and take advantage of a competitor's offer. However, if you want to take your Pantech Duo with you, it will require that the device be unlocked. To do this, you'll need a little help from AT&T, since the Pantech Duo is an AT&T GSM device. Once you obtain the code, you're good to go with unlocking your device.

Instructions

1. Contact AT&T wireless at (800) 331-0500 and ask them for the SIM subsidy unlock code for your Pantech Duo. They require the IMEI number from the phone. This is the serial number, and it's located under the battery on the back of the phone. According to AT&T customer service, it may take AT&T 48 hours to get the code for you because they do not have access to this information. Once you have the unlock code, you can proceed with unlocking the device.

2. Turn on the Pantech Duo mobile phone with the AT&T SIM card in it. The SIM card does not have to be active in order to work, but to access the unlock menu you cannot have a SIM in the phone other than an AT&T SIM card.

3. Enter *#865625# via the keypad on the phone. This should be done while on the idle or home screen. You will not press the send button or call button as you are not actually making a call. The phrase "SIM unlock process" will display on the screen. Select "Yes" to move on.

4. Type in the eight digit unlock code that you received from AT&T. Once you type in the code, press the soft key directly under the word "Okay." It should be under the right soft key. The screen will now display "unlock complete." Press the "okay" soft key to complete the unlock process.

5. Place the SIM card for your new wireless provider into the phone. It is now ready to be used on the new network.
