Use A Phone As A Gps Bluetooth

Using Bluetooth allows for GPS navigation through cell phones.

Bluetooth is communication software that connects two electronic devices so they may operate without wires. Global positioning systems (GPS) devices allow users to locate step-by-step directions, maps and points of interest. Bluetooth GPS receivers provide cell phones that are not pre-programmed with GPS technology to function as navigation devices.

Instructions

GPS Receiver and Cell Phone Setup

1. Research the type of cell phone you have and Bluetooth GPS receivers that are compatible with it through websites or at an electronics store. Search for brands within your price range, such as Belkin, Tom Tom or Garmin, that use advanced technology, allowing for better satellite reception. Purchase a Bluetooth GPS receiver that is compatible with your cell phone.

2. Find a place in your car to mount your Bluetooth GPS receiver such as the interior of your front or back windshield. Consider placing the receiver in a place that does not obstruct your view and where it will have a clear view of the sky and horizon.

3. Clean the area of your windshield on which you intend to mount your receiver with an alcohol swab. Allow the area to dry. Slide your GPS receiver into the cradle. Attach the cradle to the suction mount. Affix the suction mount to the clean area of the windshield. Apply force to the suction mount until it sticks to the windshield.

4. Turn on the GPS Bluetooth receiver according to the instructions listed in the operating manual; usually this involves holding down the power button two to three seconds. Turn on your cell phone and go to "Menu" options. Scroll down to "Settings and Tools" and choose "Bluetooth Menu." Select the "Add New Device" option.

5. Allow the light on your GPS Bluetooth device to flash, indicating it is searching for a connection. Look in your product manual for a device PIN or code. Enter this PIN or code when prompted once the devices have connected.

6. Refer to the owner's manual of your GPS Bluetooth receiver for instructions on access transportation modes such as pedestrian, bicycle or automobile. Follow the steps required to access points of interest or maps needed for navigation.
