Skype is a voice over Internet protocol (VOIP)-based service that allows you to make and receive calls over your computer, send instant messages, video conference and transfer files. Skype offers a free service that allows you to make and receive calls from other Skype members and a paid service that allows you to make and receive calls from traditional land line and cellular telephones. By default, Skype uses your computer or laptop's speakers and microphone. However, it is possible to use a hands-free device with Skype. Hands-free devices generally offer the advantage of an improved calling experience when using Skype's service.
Instructions
1. Open the Skype application and log on to the Skype service using your Skype user name and password.
2. Connect your hands-free headset to your computer. Click the headset icon located at the bottom-right of your Skype window. Select the headset from the drop-down menu for both the microphone and speaker settings. Place the hands-free headset on your head.
3. Click on the person icon to call another Skype user, or if you have a paid Skype subscription, click on the telephone icon to call a traditional land line or cellular telephone. Select the green phone icon to call another Skype user, or dial the complete phone number including the area code of the number you want to call on the virtual keypad, and then press the green phone icon to initiate the telephone call.
4. Press the green telephone icon to answer a call. A small window will pop up and open when your Skype account receives a call. The box will display the caller information of the person who is calling you.
5. Talk using your hand-free headset. You will hear sound through your headset, and the microphone on the headset will function as the sound input device for your Skype calls.
