The Motorola RIZR Z3 is a quad-band Global Systems for Mobile Communications (GSM) based cellular phone that was sold for use on the T-Mobile cellular network in the United States. The phone was discontinued and is no longer in production. T-Mobile generally sold the phone with a carrier lock that prevented using the phone on a non T-Mobile network. If you want to use the Motorola RIZR Z3 with a non T-Mobile Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card on a non T-Mobile cellular network, remove the carrier lock by unlocking the phone.
Instructions
1. Purchase a non T-Mobile SIM card from any GSM cellular service provider worldwide.
2. Remove the T-Mobile SIM card from your Motorola RIZR Z3. The SIM card is located under the phone's battery. Remove the back cover and battery from the phone. Replace the T-Mobile SIM card with the SIM card you purchased in Step 1.
3. Replace the battery and back cover and power on the Motorola RIZR Z3.
4. Call T-Mobile at 800-866-2453 and request the unlock code for your Motorola RIZR Z3. In most cases, T-Mobile will give you the unlock code free of charge. If you are unable to get the unlock code from T-Mobile, you can purchase the unlock code (see Resources) from a company that sells unlock codes for cellular phones.
5. Enter the unlock code using the keypad on your Motorola RIZR Z3. Your phone is now unlocked and will work with the non T-Mobile SIM card.
