Put Gprs On A Cell Phone

GPRS settings give your phone the ability to acess the internet.

Wireless carriers are constantly competing with each other to have the lowest rate plan costs. To take advantage of these rate plans, many people move to a new carrier while in the middle of their contract. Due to this, a lot of people decide to have their current mobile phone unlocked so they can avoid the cost of purchasing new equipment. Unlocking your SIM card-enabled GSM (Global System for Mobile communication) phone must be completed by your old carrier but your new carrier should provide the device with the GPRS (General Packet Radio Services) settings needed for accessing the Internet and sending picture messages.

Instructions

1. Remove the battery from the phone to locate the equipment identification tag located on the back of the phone. You'll need the exact model name and model number to ensure you get the right settings. The identification tag is a white sticker with a bar code on it. On that sticker you'll find the model name and model number.

2. Call your new service provider and advise the customer service representative that you are using an unsupported phone and you need to obtain the GPRS (General Packet Radio Services) and MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) for your phone so you can access the Internet and send picture messages. The rep will ask you to provide them with the brand of phone and the model name and/or model number. The customer service representative will send your phone an OTA (over-the-air) update in the form of a text message.

3. Open the text message notification that has been sent to your phone. The word "open" or "read" will appear on the phone screen. Open the message by selecting the soft-key directly below the word (due to significant differences between every mobile phone your phone may have a different phrase to open a text message but these are the most popular phrases). The text message contains the settings you need for GPRS embedded into it.

Press the soft-key that has the word "save" written above it on the screen to save the settings to the phone. Depending on the carrier, you must enter in a code that the customer service representative will give you. Otherwise you'll be able to select "save" and the settings will be saved. The phone's GPRS and MMS settings have been updated and you will now be able to access the Internet.
