Speed Up The Usb Connection Of A Belkin N+ Router

Your Belkin router is no different from other connections when it comes to speed.

Your Belkin router sends and receives data through the USB (universal serial bus) cable. This connection allows you to access the Internet from your computer. If your connection is slow, your Internet and email service will be as well. To speed this up, you'll have to do some tweaking to your USB connection.

Instructions

1. Disconnect other electronic devices, such as the mouse, SD cards, external hard drives, cameras, and MP3 devices from your computer. Your computer evenly distributes USB bandwidth for connections, so your Belkin router may not be receiving as much space as it requires for optimal functioning.

2. Click "Start" and "Control Panel" to enable write caching for your computer. Write caching is your computer's way of preparing for the easy removal of devices, such as webcams and flash drives, from your computer. Windows automatically disables write caching for external drives so they can be quickly unplugged without using the Safe Removal icon. This can cause your USB connection to the Belkin router to slow down because your computer spends time and memory preparing for the process. This time and memory is taken away from other connected devices, such as your router.

3. Click "System and Security" and select "Device Manager."

4. Click "Yes" if you are prompted by a "User Account Control" dialog box. Windows may prompt you with permission to continue, as it does when you try to open programs or sections under the control panel that could alter your computer's functionality if accidentally opened and changed.

5. Double-click "Disk Drive" and right click on the "Belkin USB storage disk."

6. Select "Properties" and then click on the "Policies" tab.

7. Select "Radio" and then click on "Optimize for Performance."

8. Click "OK."

9. Replace your old USB cable with a high-speed USB cable, preferably one that is short rather than long. A high-speed USB cable should contain at least 480 megabits per second. The shorter the cable, the less distance your connection has to travel and the lower the chance that other information will interfere with your connection. A USB cable connects your device to the computer, and your computer should acknowledge this device by indicating that a new device has been connected in your system tray, located on the bottom right corner. You can connect your USB cable by connecting the small end to your device and the larger end to your computer's USB HUB.
