Unlock A Nokia 5310

A SIM card functions as a method of identification on your Global System for Mobile Communications, or GSM carrier. All GSM phones require a SIM card to function. Once inserted into your phone, the carrier network recognizes your phone and transmits encrypted data, making your phone functional. SIM cards are transferable between phones on the same carrier, but may disable your phone on another carrier network. Unlocking the phone requires the IMEI number and an unlock code, which can be obtained from your carrier.

Instructions

1. Obtain the IMEI number for the Nokia 5310 by entering *#06# from the home screen of your Nokia 5310. The IMEI number will show across the screen of your phone. Record the 15- to 17-digit number.

2. Contact your mobile provider for an unlock code. If the provider refuses to provide the code, you can obtain a free code from Topshareware.com. Cellunlocker.net. offers a money back guarantee if they cannot find a code or the code does not unlock your phone. Unlockcellphone.com sells Nokia 5310 unlock codes for $59.99. (See Resources.)

3. Switch phone off and remove the SIM card. Power your phone back on.

4. Enter #pw+CODE+1# from the home screen. Fido or Roger network users in Canada enter #pw+CODE+7#. The unlock code is entered in place of "CODE." For example, if the code received is 0000000, enter #pw+0000000+1#. When "SIM Restriction Off" appears, the phone is no longer restricted.

5. Insert the SIM card into your phone.
