You can obtain the IMEI number from your phone.
If your phone is a Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) phone, then you can use it with any network. Some providers may lock your phone. This lock prevents you from using the phone on another network. To unlock your phone, you need to get an unlock code. Test Point software gives you the ability to unlock your phone with just an International Mobile Equipment Identification (IMEI) number and USB cable.
Instructions
1. Enter *#06# in your phone's keypad. Write down the 15- to 17-digit IMEI number that appears on your screen. Keep it nearby for reference.
2. Download the Test Point software. (See Resources.) Save the file to your desktop. Double-click the file and follow installation instructions. Save the software to your computer's hard drive and allow it to reboot your computer.
3. Remove the protective cover from the back of your phone. Take out the battery and SIM card. Replace the protective cover.
4. Attach the USB cable to your cell phone. Plug the other end of the USB cable to your computer's available USB port.
5. Launch the Test Point software. Wait for it to detect your cell phone. Enter the IMEI number, when prompted.
6. Press the "Read Codes" button. Write down the unlock code. Disconnect your phone from the computer.
7. Remove the protective cover. Insert the battery and SIM card. Replace the protective cover and turn on your phone.
8. Enter the unlock code into your phone. Wait for notification that you unlocked the phone.
