Fix A Sound Card Problem

A sound card allows a user to hear sounds through her computer.

A sound card, sometimes referred to as an audio card, is the device that gives your computer the ability to produce sound through speakers. This includes the speakers on your computer and any additional speakers that you may hook up to your computer. You must have a compatible driver on your computer in order for your sound card to work properly. Most sound card problems are actually the result of a driver issue.

Instructions

Update Windows

1. Click on the "Start" menu.

2. Type "Windows Update" into the "Search Programs and Files" box and press "Enter." The Windows Update screen will open.

3. Click on "Check for Updates" and then click on "Install Updates." Windows Update will automatically locate the proper driver for your sound card.

4. Restart your computer. Your sound card should now work properly. If it does not, continue to the next step.

5. Go to the Microsoft "No Sound in Windows" web page.

6. Click "Run now" beneath the "Microsoft Automated Troubleshooting Services" header.

7. Click "Save" and then click "Allow." The "Microsoft Mr. Fix It" tool will start to run. The Microsoft Mr. Fix it tool will automatically scan your computer for the cause of the problem and then automatically fix it. If the tool cannot fix the problem, it will provide you with additional resources to help you fix the problem yourself.
