Use A Cingular Phone With Tracfone Sim Card

TracFone is a prepaid cellular service provider in the United States that operates using a Global Systems for Mobile Communications (GSM) network. All GSM phones require a removable Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card that is used by the network to identify subscribers. Cingular was a GSM cellular service provider that operated in the United States. Cingular became AT&T Wireless in 2006 and is now solely owned by AT&T. If you have an unlocked GSM cell phone that was purchased from Cingular, you can use the phone with a TracFone SIM card.


Instructions


1. Remove the existing SIM card from your unlocked Cingular phone and insert the TracFone SIM card. On most cellular phones, the SIM card compartment is located under the phone's battery. Remove the back cover and battery to access the SIM card compartment. If you can't find the SIM card on your Cingular phone, consult your phone's manual for instructions on replace the SIM card.


2. Purchase TracFone prepaid minutes (see Resources). TracFone offers a variety of prepaid minute options and you can purchase the minutes directly from TracFone's website. To purchase minutes, you will need to enter your TracFone phone number or the phone number associated with your TracFone SIM card. Once you purchase the minutes, TracFone automatically activates the minutes on your TracFone SIM card.


3. Make and receive cell phone calls as normal using your Cingular phone. Your TracFone phone number is now associated with your Cingular phone.
