Transfer Music From Your IPod to Computer
The introduction of the iPod has revolutionized the way a generation gets their music and enjoys it. If you hang out at any college campus, you'll see the majority of students walking from class to class with earbuds in their ears listening to their iPods. Many times, however, it's necessary to transfer music from your iPod to your computer so you can enjoy your favorite songs that way.
Instructions
1. Connect your iPod to your computer. When you connect your iPod to your computer, you need to make sure it is connected without iTunes doing the auto-syncing at this time. Hold the CTRL and Shift keys down as you are connecting your iPod to your computer. While you are still pressing CTRL and Shift, your iTunes menu should automatically pop up. If doesn't automatically coming up, click on the icon to turn off the auto-syncing option.
2. Wait for the iPod. Your iPod should appear on the "Source List" under "Devices" once your computer recognizes it. The CTRL and Shift buttons should both still be pushed at this time. The iPod may take 30 to 45 seconds to appear on "Devices."
3. Create a new library with iTunes. There should be an option on the iTunes menu to create a new library for your music. This will become like a new playlist on your computer that you can enjoy any time.
4. Move songs from iPod to your iTunes library. Once you’ve picked what songs you want to transfer or backup, double-click on the My Computer icon. Next, click on the iPod icon only once. On the menu bar, click on Tools and then Folder Options. Click on View and go to Show Hidden Files and Folders. Highlight that option and click. Find the folder called iPod Control, which is in the iPod drive, and open it. You should see music folders labeled F00, F01, and so on. If you want to transfer everything instead of certain files, just highlight the entire music folder.
5. Copy your music folder. Now that you've highlighted the songs that you want to transfer, click on the folder and press the CTRL key. Then go to Edit and click Copy. Once this is done, create a new folder on your desktop, preferably named "New Songs" so you can refer to it quickly. Next, right click on the songs folder and select Paste. This will move your songs to your new folder.
6. Move the files to iTunes. Open iTunes back up. Select File and Add Folder to Library. Select whichever folder you want to import to your library and then click it. This part may take several minutes, so be patient.
7. Enjoy your music directly from your computer. Transferring your music to your computer is a great way to have a backup copy of your favorite songs in case your iPod gets lost, stolen or damaged.
