Belkin Mimo Router Installation Instructions

Belkin Mimo Router Installation Instructions

The Belkin MIMO Router uses the newer Wireless G+ 801.11g standard wireless technology, plus the double MIMO antenna technology, together in one Belkin brand router. According to Belkin, the Wireless G routers are generally "5 times faster than the current Wi-Fi (802.11b) standard," and "…the network configuration is easiest to implement." The Belkin MIMO Wireless G+ Router is also easy to setup and install.

Preparation

Make sure you have all the needed materials before beginning installation. The user manual, installation CD, Ethernet cable and the Belkin MIMO router should have all been included in the box. An extra Ethernet cable of sufficient length may be necessary, depending on the distance between the router and the PC and the length of the included cable. Between 10 to 25 feet long should be sufficient. A power adapter is also included so access to a power outlet is necessary to install the router as well.

The setup must be run form a computer with a DSL or Broadband modem and connection to the Internet. Do not attach the router until instructed to do so. Close any other programs so when the setup is running, it is the only program open. Disable all firewalls and network connections.

Setup and Installation

For Windows 98SE, Me, 2000, XP and Mac OS X operating systems, insert the installation disk into the CD ROM and the "Network Setup Utility" automatically appears almost instantly. Click the button labeled "Run the Easy Install Wizard." XP users, if the setup does not start automatically, click "Start" then "My Computer" and then double click the "Start" file to run the disk. For MAC users, insert the disk and click the icon for the CD and a folder pops up. Click the "start.osx" folder to open the setup wizard.

For all systems, from the drop-down menu, select your country or region and then click "Next" when the wizard's "Welcome" screen appears. Click "Next" on the next page, a progress page, and then the wizard will start checking the current network settings installed. Click "Next" when the wizard confirms finishing checking the settings.

The set up will instruct you to insert one end of the yellow Ethernet cable into any one yellow plug on the router and also to insert the other end into the Ethernet port or the networking port, on the computer. Do so and click "Next." The program will ask you to connect the power supply's small end into the Grey port on the router and the other end into an available power outlet. Do so and click "Next."

The program will now tell you to examine to see is certain lights are on and will tell you which ones should be lit up. Confirm the lights are properly lit and click "Next." Follow the rest of the directions and click "Next" as required, as the wizard will have you test the connection in various ways.

Considerations

This Belkin router is not compatible with Windows Vista or any other version of Mac than the OS X.

There is an advanced manual setup option, but this is usually reserved for network administrators. Do not try the advanced setup without the help of a network administrator.

If the installation fails, consult the Belkin support website from another computer, or consult the user's manual for troubleshooting tips.
