Hack Your Cell Phone To Use As A Modem

Hacking your cell phone to use as a modem will take approximately 30 minutes. This will allow you to use your mobile's Internet access (3G or 4G) as a modem for your computer or other device. It is useful when there is no WiFi or DSL connection available, and you need Internet access. Although it's not as fast using your cell phone, it will give you access to email and some light surfing.

Instructions

1. Set up your phone as a modem. On your phone menu, click "Start." Look for "Applications," then click "File Explorer." Go to "Windows Folder," "Internet Sharing" and "PC Connection." You will be asked to choose the method of connection, so choose either "USB" or "Bluetooth." Leave the Network Connection to the "Standard" setting and push "Connect."

2. Set up a USB connection. Simply insert the CD-ROM that came with your phone into your computer's drive. Follow the installation instructions that appear. Connect one end of the USB cable to the bottom of your phone and the other end into the USB port. Your operating system will now detect your phone as a modem.

3. Turn on your phone's Bluetooth connection. Go to "Menu" and click on "Bluetooth" for activation.

4. Turn on your laptop's Bluetooth connection. Go to the "Start Menu" and click "Control Panel." Select "Bluetooth" and the Bluetooth manager will come up. Press "Set up New Devices." Click on "Continue" for it to search for active devices. Select your phone and choose "Continue." From your phone, choose "YES," then enter the PIN code. The default code for most phones is either "8888" or "0000." Key it in and press "OK." Your phone and computer are now paired.

5. Launch your browser and surf. Once the phone has been set as the modem, click on your laptop's web browser. Go to a simple website to test the Internet connectivity. For 3G network, the usual browsing speed is 400 to 700 kbps, a little slower than a DSL connection, but much faster than browsing through the phone itself.
