Configure A Microsoft Vpn Server

A Virtual Private Network (VPN) lets you set up a network that allows remote users to access your network over the Internet. Microsoft offers many tools and systems to set up and administer VPNs, but you need to configure the VPN before your users can start accessing your network remotely.


Instructions


Open the Configure Server Wizard


1. Click "Start" and then "Control Panel."


2. Open the "Administrative Tools."


3. Open the "Configure Your Server Wizard."


Run the Server Wizard


4. Choose "Custom Configuration."


5. Click "Next." The Server Role page opens.


6. Click "Remote Access/VPN Server" and then "Next."

7. Click "Next" on the Summary page. This page shows your current selections. If you haven't made any selections, the page tells you to change configuration settings.


8. Click "Next." The Configuration page opens.


9. Click "Virtual Private Network (VPN) and NAT." Click "Next." The VPN Configuration page opens.


10. Choose a network interface. Click "Next" to go to the IP Address Assignment page.


11. Verify that the "Automatic" option is selected. This automatically generates and assigns IP Addresses to remote systems.


12. Click "Next." The Name and Address Translation services page opens. Verify that you have the "Enable basic name and address services" option selected. This tells your computer to automatically assign IP addresses to private network computers that request them.


13. Click "Next" to open the Address Assignment Range page. Review the IP Address ranges shown on the page.


14. Click "Next" to open the Manage Multiple Remote Access Servers. Verify that you have the "No, use Routing and Remote Access to authenticate connection requests" option selected. This uses Windows authentication to verify connection requests.


15. Click "Next" to open the Completing the Routing and Remote Access Server Setup Wizard page. Verify that you have the correct settings. Click "Back" to change a setting on the appropriate page if needed. Click "Finish."
