Register your cellphone with Google Voice to use the Google Voice voicemail service.
Google Voice, a free service from popular search engine company Google, provides users with a new number and allows them to register multiple phones with the service.Users then have control over where calls to their Google Voice number get routed. Another Google Voice feature is voicemail. If your phone carrier is compatible with Google Voice, you can replace your carrier's voicemail service with the Google Voice version and use enhanced features such as call screening and listening live as callers leave voice messages.
Instructions
1. Log in to your Google Voice account.
2. Click the gear icon in the top-right corner of the screen and click "Voice Settings."
3. Check that the "Phones" tab is active. Click the "Add another phone" link at the bottom of the page.
4. Enter a name for the phone in the first box and enter your 10-digit phone number in the second box.
5. Use the drop-down menu to select your type of phone.
6. Click the box next to "Receive text messages on this phone" if you want to receive text messages sent to your Google Voice number on this phone.
7. Click the "Save" icon to register the phone. A pop-up window containing a two-digit verification code will appear. Click the "Connect" button. Google Voice will call you and prompt you to enter the verification code using your phone's keypad. Once you do this, the phone is registered with Google Voice and you can start using the services.You should now see the phone listed on the iPhone's tab page. If not, refresh the page.
8. Click the "Activate Google voicemail on this phone" link next to your phone number. A pop-up box with a 17 character code will appear. Dial this number from your phone. You will receive a confirmation message on your phone alerting you that Google Voice voicemail is now active on the phone.
9. Click the "Voicemail & Text" tab to modify the voicemail settings if you wish.
