How Remove A Virus From My Computer

If you use a computer for work, play or to stay informed, you have heard about viruses. They are malicious programs made to wreak havoc on your computer and can cause many problems from automatic rebooting to not being able to turn on your computer. Viruses have even been linked to identity theft. Here is help if you suspect or know there is a virus on your computer.

Antivirus Programs

Antivirus programs were created to protect your computer from virus, worms, Trojans, spyware and other harmful programs. Having an antivirus program is the only way to protect your computer. Many antivirus programs you must purchase but there are trusted programs that you may use for free. The most trusted by computer programmers is AVG. It is free, very thorough and will detect viruses and remove them from your computer. You will want to install a spyware removal program as well since these programs may harm your computer. SpyBot is a great free spyware program that most professionals use on their own computers. There are many trusted antivirus programs you may purchase such as Norton AntiVirus from any electronics/computer store like Best Buy.

All Else Fails, Reboot.

Encountering a virus-infected computer can be stressful. When attempting to remove a virus, you may need to reboot several times. If the virus has infected your computer to the point where you can not normally run an antivirus program or even start your computer, reboot your computer in Safe Mode. This may be done for computers running a Windows operating system.

Turn on your computer while holding the "F8" command button. This will prompt the computer to start in Safe Mode which is bare minimum system running. While in Safe Mode, install and run an antivirus program. This will allow the program to find the virus without the virus being activated.

Computer Meltdown

If you are still unable to properly use your computer due to a virus, you may want to seek additional help. There is Geek Squad at Best Buy and many independent computer repair businesses have popped up all over the internet. You may want to seek out an individual who can save your files at this point by doing an external backup and totally wiping everything off your computer, giving you a clean slate.
