Uses For Ketchup Packets

In almost every American household there is a stash of them. A large pile of unopened, unused ketchup packets. While these packets come in handy for that surprise order of french fries, slipping into lunch bags, or taking on picnics, there are a variety of alternative uses for ketchup packets as well. Does this Spark an idea?

Shine Copper

If you have copper pots and pans that could use some sprucing up, or a home with plenty of copper decorations, ketchup packets come in handy. Rub the ketchup over the copper and wait a few minutes. You can actually see the ketchup eating the tarnish away on the copper. This reaction is due to the acid in ketchup. If some of the tarnish is being stubborn, add a pinch of table salt to help.

Diffuse Skunk Odor

On those unfortunate days when the dog encounters a skunk, or a person has a run-in with the smelly creature, it is crucial to have those ketchup packets on hand. Not unlike using tomato juice to fight skunk odor, ketchup can also help remove the smell from a person's or animal's skin. Rub on the ketchup and then rinse with water.

Soothe Wounds

Another way to use ketchup packets lying around the house is to throw them in the freezer. Once frozen, these cold, hard packets become an easy way to soothe small aches and wounds. The size is perfect for most cuts and scrapes and the cold will help minimize swelling.

Refresh Chlorine Hair

For many men and women, chlorine has an adverse affect on hair. This is especially true for hair that has been highlighted or colored. If your hair has turned a bit green from too many dips in the pool, grab a few ketchup packets from the cupboard. Rub the ketchup into your hair. Wait for about 20 minutes, allowing the ketchup to soak in. Rinse the ketchup out and your hair will look as good as new.
