Get Listed In Phone Information

In the age of cell phones and VoIP phone providers, many phone numbers, both residential and business, are not listed in the phone book. Online phone directories and 411 services maintain separate listings of phone numbers from phone books.Covering all of the sources of residential and business phone numbers is important to getting your phone number listed in places where your friends, family, acquaintances and potential customers can easily find it.

Instructions

1. Call your local phone provider. Open a new phone account for your home or business. Answer that you would like to be listed in the phone directory when the customer service representative assisting you asks. If the representative does not ask, request to be added to the local white pages of the phone book. Call your local 411 to see if it offers the opportunity for you to list your business or residential phone number after being told that your business is not in its listings.

2. Add your phone number to a directory such as ListYourself!, which sends your phone number to databases so it is searchable when people call 411. Click on "List Yourself" on the top menu of ListYourself's homepage. Enter all of the required information and optional information such as your Skype or MSN usernames. Indicate what type of phone number you are registering, be it VoIP, regular landline, or cell phone. Another similar do-it-yourself listing service is available at the SuperPages website.Click on Add or Edit a business on the bottom of the page to begin the process of being listed in the SuperPages directory.

3. Call Verizon's Wireless Listing Service, which allows you to list your phone number in its database no matter the carrier you use. Ask for a "foreign listing." This service charges a low monthly fee of around a dollar as well as a $9 one-time charge.

4. Call the publisher of your local phone book. You will not be added to the phone book because you are part of the 411 directory or have been listed in online directories. Ask to be added to the white and/or yellow pages. There may be a charge for this service, depending on whether you are adding a business or residential listing.
