Locate A Gps Enabled Phone

Locate a GPS Enabled Phone

Everyone has lost their phone at one time or another and it can be a pain to find. Thankfully most smart phones come with a GPS chip included, it just needs to be turned on. If you want to locate your lost phone in the future, you should enable GPS tracking on it now.

Instructions

1. Purchase GPS tracking software for your phone. Even if your phone has a GPS chip, you will still need software to translate the data for you. Mologogo.com, Accutracking.com and Executrac are good choices. If for some reason you would like something a bit more discrete, you can use cell phone spy software such as Mobile Spy or flexiSPY. Both of these tools will run invisibly in the background so that the person whose phone you are tracking is unaware of it. The prices on these programs vary greatly, ranging from free (Mologogo) up to $199 a year.

2. Install and configure the software. Once you've purchased the software, open an Internet browser on your phone and download the software directly to it. You will usually receive a password to make the software operable. Configure it according to the instructions.

3. Go to the website and locate the phone. Once the software is installed and configured, the phone will begin transmitting a signal that GPS satellites will pick up. You will simply need to go to the website that you've registered with and log in. The phone that you are tracking will show up on a map that gives you the longitude, latitude and location within 15 feet. Note that some of these systems work in real time and thus will show you the location of the phone at that moment. Others are semi-passive and will only transmit every 30 minutes, giving you a history of the phone's movement.

4. Add your friends. Mologogo allows your friends to sign up for the service and allows you to add them to your buddies list. When your phones are close to one another, the system will alert you (you could also use your friend's phone to locate yours in the event that you have misplaced it).

5. Check to see if your phone has E911. All modern smart phones have a built-in service that gives their location away automatically when 911 is dialed. However, these can also be made to transmit the location all of the time. If you have this feature turned on, you can check with your wireless carrier in the event your phone is lost--and have them track it for you.
