Get your mobile's "unlock code" from your network or online source.
Motorola's W260G is a clamshell phone with basic functionality. It has all the drawbacks you would expect from a low-priced phone. There is no camera or Bluetooth connectivity, but there are standard features, such as a calendar, calculator and speaker-phone function. Although the handset is mainly for basic use--calls and texts--you still are going to have a hard time trying to get another network's SIM to work in it. The W260G is usually a TracFone mobile, and if you want to change networks, you have to remove the network block.
Instructions
Through TracFone
1. Find your phone's IMEI number. This is a 15-digit number, commonly referred to as a "serial number," which identifies your individual handset. Bring this up by pressing "*#06#" on your phone. This number is required to generate the "unlock code" for your W260G.
2. Copy the number down on a piece of paper. You will need to refer to it shortly. Most networks offer an unlocking service, and although they can be pricey, it is the most trustworthy method of getting your unlock code.
3. Contact TracFone and tell them you want to use your W260G with another network. They will ask for your IMEI number, and then will quote you a price for the unlock code. Even though you are completely within your rights to change networks, providers don't like it when you do. Usually, they won't allow you to do this if you've only just taken out your contract--or within a specified introductory period. And even if you can, you'll probably be waiting about a week to get your code. This is also the most expensive way to unlock your phone.
4. Enter the code into your W260G. You will see a message confirming that the "network block" has been removed, and the phone will be able to be used with any network. Doing this also adds a little to the re-sale value of your handset, so it may be worthwhile if you're looking to sell. If you've been a long-term customer, networks will sometimes give the code for free, so it is worth asking when you call up.
Through Unlocking Websites
5. Search Google for "W260G Unlock Code" and it will bring up a list of websites that offer the codes for your phone. Websites such as Cell Corner provide codes for a better price than networks, and also have a quicker response time.
6. Find a website you want to use, and then fill in your make and model details. The website will then request your IMEI number. Press "*#06#" or look at the label underneath your battery to find the number.
7. Enter the IMEI in the space provided. The website will now take their fee, and provide you with your unlock code. Most will send you the code within a few days.
8. Enter the unlock code in your W260G to remove the network block.
