Unlock A Nokia 5300 To Any Network

Switching from one carrier to another isn't as simple as removing the existing SIM card and slipping in a new one. Generally, cell phones purchased as part of a cell phone plan come locked to the network provider from which you purchased it. In order to unlock the cell phone, you will have to input an unlock code, after which your phone will be open for use with all GSM service providers worldwide. The unlock code may be purchased online from any phone unlock company.

Instructions

1. Gather the information you need before contacting the company that will generate your unlock code.

Make sure you know the network provider to which the phone is locked. If you are unsure, take out the SIM card and look at the network name printed on it. Also, find out your Nokia 5300's international mobile equipment identity (IMEI) number by typing "*#06#" on the phone's keypad.

2. Get an unlock code from an unlock code generating company such as GSM Liberty, Unlock All Cellular and Cell Corner (see Resources). Upon providing one of these companies with the IMEI number, it will generate a unique unlock code for your Nokia 5300 and will charge you somewhere between $11.99 and $42.99, as of 2010. You will receive the code via email after you make the payment.

3. Switch on the phone without any SIM card inside.

4. Type "#PW+CODE+1#." After adding the appropriate code, it should look something like, "#pw+555555555555555+1#."

5. Press "Send." Your phone's screen will now read, "SIM Restriction Off."
