Get Voicemail From Your Cell Phone

Get Voicemail From Your Cell Phone

Voicemail is a great tool for receiving important messages when you are unavailable to answer your phone. Getting your voicemail from your phone is extremely easy, although it may be difficult for you if it's your first time trying.

Instructions

Setting Up Your Voicemail

1. Dial your own telephone number. To begin the process of retrieving your voicemail, you must dial your cellular number. It is highly recommended that you call from the handset you'll be using to check your voicemail.

2. Set up your options. The first time you call into your phone number, you're going to set up a variety of options. The options will vary depending on your wireless carrier. These options could include whether you will call into your phone number each time you want to check your voicemail, or if you prefer to use a speed dial button on your phone, most commonly used by holding down the "1" key on your handset.

3. Set your passcode. When setting up your voicemail, you will need to select a passcode to enter so your phone knows it is you checking the voicemail. This will consist of a four-to-10 digit number, depending on your carrier.

4. The final step in setting up your voicemail is to record your name and greeting. You will have the option to use a standard recorded greeting, which is a computer-generated voice announcing your phone number and stating you are not available, or you can record a custom greeting using your own voice.

5. Once you are done setting up your voicemail, simply disconnect from the settings menu and your phone is ready to accept voicemail messages.

Checking Your Voicemail

6. Once you are ready to check your voicemail, dial in using the option that you selected in Step 2 while setting up. You'll hear the computer-generated voice announce how many new and saved voicemail messages you have. Generally, you will press 1 to listen to your new messages, but this may vary by carrier.

7. Save or delete your messages. Once you have listened to each new message, you will have the option to either save or delete that message. The number that you will press to accomplish this will vary by carrier, but the computer-generated voice will instruct you on what numbers to press at the end of each message.

8. Hang up. Once you have finished checking your voicemail, simply hang up the handset and you will be disconnected from the voicemail system.
