Turn your Sony Eriksson phone into a webcam.
If you're on the road a lot, you probably want to keep in touch with your friends and family. Using a webcam is a good way to do that, and it's the next best thing to being there in person. But what if you don't want to carry around yet another gadget? If you have a Sony Eriksson K800, you can use its built-in digital camera to make your cell phone do double duty as a webcam.
Instructions
1. Find a software program that allows you to use your cell phone as a webcam, such as Qik, Mobiola and WebCam Plus. These programs allow your Sony Eriksson to communicate with your computer and act as a webcam. These programs range in price from free to $24.99, as of 2010.
2. Use Qik. This application is completely free, as of 2010. You register on the web site by creating a user name and profile and providing a cell phone number. You don't need to download any software. You just use the regular video feature on your K800, and Qik automatically loads the video to the Internet, so you can use your cell phone like a webcam, do video conferencing or create recorded videos that you can share with your friends and family. Available in 19 languages, Qik also lets you sync to your favorite networking sites like Facebook, Twitter and Blogger.
3. Buy Webcam Plus. This application is inexpensive because it costs only $5.99, as of 2010. It allows you to connect your Sony Eriksson phone to your computer via Bluetooth or USB. You can use voice-over-IP applications like Skype, Yahoo Messenger, MSN Chat and ICQ to do video chats. All you need to do is download the application to your desktop computer and connect your phone to your computer through Bluetooth or USB. Once that's done, the program connects the camera's video feed to your computer.
4. Buy Mobiola. It costs $24.99, as of 2010, but it comes with a seven-day free trial. It works on most phones, such as the Blackberry, and any phone using Symbian and Windows Mobile OS. You can connect to Mobiola on your computer though USB Wi-fi or Bluetooth. The program also allows you to to do video chats with third-party software such as Skype, Yahoo Messenger, AOL Messenger and MSN Chat. Just download and install the software on your computer. Then connect your K800 to the computer. You will immediately be able to see the video on your computer.
