Blackberry 8830 Troubleshooting

Blackberry smart phones have revolutionized cellular technology by allowing instant access to email, files, and the Internet on a fully functional mobile device. As with any technology, Blackberries have a learning curve for the uninitiated, and trying to pinpoint functional difficulties when your phone isn't working can be confusing. Oftentimes, if your Blackberry seems like it is not working properly, the issue can be fixed without costly repairs from a technician.

Problems Making or Receiving Calls

A common issue for Blackberry users is the inability to make or receive telephone calls. If you cannot make a phone call with your Blackberry, you should first make sure that your phone is connected to your wireless network. Contact your service provider to ensure that your service has not been disconnected or discontinued. When traveling, you must change the smart dialing and speed dialing settings since area and country codes must be used. Ensure that your call forwarding is turned off, as this will cause received calls to automatically be sent to a different device.

Problems Sending Messages

Should your text messaging seem to malfunction, check your wireless network for connection, and then ensure that the number or address for your message is correct---misdialing a number or attempting to send a message with a typo in the address will obviously prevent your message from reaching its target. Next, make sure that you have registered the device with your wireless network. To receive an automatic registration message, go to the "Host Routing Table" in your device's "Advanced Settings." Press the "Menu" key, and select the option marked "Register Now." If your data service is turned on, you should be able to resend the message and have it reach the person you are trying to contact.

Applications

The applications available for a Blackberry can become daily essentials for some users, so malfunctioning applications are often a huge headache. Two of the leading problems for the inability to download apps are a lack of network connectivity and a lack of available memory. You may need to delete files or other applications in order to create the room for new ones. Software upgrades are also necessary to run certain applications. If an application you've downloaded doesn't work, the file may be damaged---try downloading it a second time and running it again.
