Unlock your Nokia 5220 Express phone in two ways.
When you purchase a Nokia 5220 Express, also known as simply the Nokia Xpress, it is attached to a specific service provider. While one service provider may sell you the phone, another may have cheaper service plans and network fees. To use your Nokia 5220 Express with a service provider of your choice, you must unlock the device from the original provider.
Instructions
1. Turn off your Nokia 5220 Express to start the unlocking process. Turn the phone over to locate the phone's battery compartment. Slide out the battery and place it separately from the phone.
2. Remove the SIM card from phone. It is located behind the battery in a small metal compartment.
3. Locate your Nokia IMEI number. It is on a sticker near the SIM card compartment. It is a code composed of letters and numbers. Write it down for later use.
4. Get an unlocking code by contacting your service provider or buying one online. While getting one from your service provider is free, some people prefer to buy it online to avoid the hassle of contacting and speaking with a service provider representative. If you do buy it online, use a website that supports the 5220 Express model (see Resources).
5. Provide the necessary information to obtain a proper unlocking code for the Nokia 5220 Express model. Include the phone's full model, type and IMEI number. If you are buying the code online, provide your email address and the required payment, so you can receive the code.
6. Write the unlocking code down once you receive it.
7. Insert the battery into your Nokia 5220 Express without the SIM card. Turn on your phone.
8. Read the error screen telling you that a network cannot be found. Enter the unlocking code you have written down and press the "Enter" key. A message will inform you that your device is no longer restricted to one service network.
