Replace Speakers In A 95 Saturn

Occasionally it is necessary to replace your car stereo speakers. Whether you need to replace a blown speaker or you are upgrading your system, speaker removal and installation varies among different vehicle makes and models. To remove the speakers of a 1995 Saturn, you can have a technician from an aftermarket retailer perform the task, or you can do it yourself and save the cost of labor.

Instructions

1. Remove the rear seating. To gain access to the rear deck speakers, you need to remove the rear seating bench. Push backward on the cushion and then upward. Feed the safety belts through their openings and pull the cushion out of the Saturn.

2. Remove the 18-inch plastic panels on the bottom edge of the door openings, using the trim tool and a moderate amount of force between the top edges and the door openings.

3. Pull the rear seat backs forward.

4. Remove the corner panels that run parallel to the shoulder restraints of the safety belts. You can easily remove these panels by hand. Pull the panels from the bottom. They detach completely with a medium amount of force.

5. Remove the rear shelf covering the rear speakers by removing the color-coded push pins holding the shelf in place. There are four pins, two on the vertical plane of the shelf and two on the horizontal plane. Use a pry tool or flat screwdriver. You can remove the rear shelf by hand with a slight amount of force.

6. Remove the speakers. Using a T-15 bit, unscrew the four screws holding each speaker in place. Pull the speaker out of its dock to access the wire connection.

7. Disconnect the wiring from the back of the speaker. Using a flat screwdriver, press the metal spring-loaded release at the base of the connection bracket, then pull the connecting wires from the speaker.

8. Connect a 6.5-inch speaker to each of the wiring harnesses that are now disconnected. Place the speakers in the Saturn's rear deck docking slots. Insert the four screws in each speaker using the T-15 bit and screwdriver handle.

9. Replace the rear shelf covering and push pins. Reattach the push pins by hand.

10. Replace the side corner panels. Align each panel at the top first, then push it back into place. The clips that hold the panels in place engage with a medium amount of force.

11. Put the seat backs in the normal upright position.

12. Replace the two panels at the edges of the door openings. While the panels required trim tools for removal, you can replace them by hand with a moderate amount of force.

13. Feed the safety belts from the underside through the rear seat cushion. Reseat the rear cushion at the back (the point where the cushion meets the seat backs) and push downward toward the front of the Saturn.

14. Remove the front door speaker coverings with a trim pry tool.

15. Remove the three screws holding each speaker in place with a T-15 bit.

16. Disconnect the wiring harness at the rear of the speakers, pulling them apart by hand.

17.Connect the wiring harnesses to the new 5 1/4-inch speakers.

18. Replace the speakers in the front door speaker docking station and screw in the screws using a T-15 bit and screwdriver handle.

19. Replace the speaker covers by pressing them into place by hand.
