Neoware Thin Clients E140 Specifications

The Neoware Thin Client e140 is a network computer produced by the HP Corporation. As a network computer, it is meant to be connected to a server. It has limited processor power, system memory and storage space as it stores most of its information and borrows some of its processing power from the server. For this reason, the e140 is smaller and lighter than its desktop computer counter parts. According to Cnet, the unit stands at 11.4 inches high, 9.4 inches deep, and 2.1 inches wide.

Processors

According to HP, the e140 comes with either a 1 GHz or an 800 MHz processor. Both processors belong to Via Technologies line of "Eden" central processing units. Via states that these processors have low enough power consumption that they're able to operate without cooling fans. The absence of a bulky cooling system is another reason for the e140's light weight and compact design.

Memory

The e140 can use anywhere from 128 MB to 1 GB of DDR2 memory. This acts as the computer's system memory; that is, the memory that stores the data the computer requires while in operation. The e140 also has 128 MB to 1 GB of memory for its longterm storage needs. However, this is in the form of a solid state, or "flash," drive. As these types of drives have no moving parts, they are generally more reliable and faster than hard drives.

Graphics

Like most computers, the e140 has a separate processor that handles tasks related to graphics applications. This unit is produced jointly between Via and the S3 Corporation. According to HP, the unit has an 8-bit, 16-bit, and a 32-bit color mode. The first two of these allow for screen resolutions up to 1600 by 1200, while the third allows for resolution up to 1280 by 1024.

Connection Ports

The e140 contains one PCI expansion slot allowing for a graphics processor upgrade. It also has two USB 2.0 ports on its front face, two on the back panel, two PS/2 ports for a keyboard and mouse, one D-Sub 25-pin female parallel port, and two D-Sub 9-pin male serial ports.
