What Phones Are Compatible With The H500

The Motorola H500 Bluetooth headset connects to a wide variety of Bluetooth devices.

The Motorola H500 Bluetooth is a versatile headset available in several vibrant colors to coordinate with Motorola's successful RAZR cell phone. While the headset does work well with the Motorola RAZR, it's equipped with two universal Bluetooth profiles, meaning it works with all Bluetooth-compatible devices.

Hands-free Profile Support

The H500 supports the hands-free Bluetooth profile (HFP). A hands-free Bluetooth profile can connect to freestanding devices with Bluetooth receivers, like speakers, computers or car kits. That means if an accessory or cell phone has the hands-free Bluetooth profile, it will work with the Motorola H500. The majority of Bluetooth ready accessories work with a hands-free profile, making the H500 a universally compatible Bluetooth headset. When purchasing a Bluetooth compatible accessory or phone look for HFP under Bluetooth profiles to ensure your device will work with the Motorola H500.

Mono Headset Profile Support

Motorola's H500 Bluetooth headset supports another universally compatible profile, the mono headset profile. This profile is frequently referred to as HSP. This is the profile that allows Bluetooth devices to communicate directly with cell phone headsets that have built in Bluetooth technology. The mono headset profile is universally compatible, meaning any Bluetooth-ready cell phone can pair with the Motorola H500 Bluetooth headset. A few examples of devices that can pair with the H500 via HSP are the HTC Droid Incredible, LG EnV3, Motorola Backflip and the Motorola Adventure. Check your cell phone's user manual for the HSP indicator under Bluetooth profiles.

Bluetooth Profile Limitations

The HSP and HFP profiles are both basic Bluetooth connection profiles. They do not support stereo sound, dial up connections, file transfer, or vCard contact transfer. This means the Motorola H500 Bluetooth headset is a good no-frills Bluetooth solution, but may not be the best choice for someone looking for advanced Bluetooth functionality.

Pairing the H500

Put the Motorola H500 Bluetooth headset in pairing mode and charge it fully before you pair it with a handset or other Bluetooth device. On a basic headset you can search for and connect the H500 by navigating to the phone's menu, and then selecting "Settings and Tools." Navigate to the "Bluetooth" menu. Select "Add New Device." Follow the on-screen instructions for connecting the headset. If the phone asks for a connection code, enter 0000.
