The Nokia N Series Quad Band is an entry of the Nseries of mobile phones from Finnish telecommunications manufacturer Nokia that uses four RF bands in a wireless network. The first Nseries quad-band phone was the N73, which Nokia released in 2006 -- a year after the Nseries debuted. As of September 2011, the present Nseries entry, the Nokia N8 smartphone, is a quad-band device. It made its debut in 2010.
Network
The four RF bands that the Nokia N8 uses under the Global System for Mobile Communications standard for second-generation mobile phones are 850 MHz, 900 MHz, 1,800 MHz and 1,900 MHz. However, since it's a 3G phone, the N8 has the ability to switch to the High-Speed Downlink Packet Access protocol, using the 850 MHz, 900 MHz, 1,700 MHz, 1,900 MHz and 2,100 MHz. Thus, the N8 can function as a penta-band, or five-band phone.
