Released in 2008, the LG Dare is part of the company's extensive line of touch-screen cellphones that comes with a variety of features, including a built-in digital camera, a media player and a GPS system. CNET Reviews, an electronics review website, praised the Dare for its high-quality camera and touch screen interface, but criticized it for its Web browser.
Dimensions, Display and Power
The LG Dare measures 4.1 inches long, 2.2 inches wide and 0.5 inches deep and weighs 3.8 ounces, considerably lighter than the 5.7-ounce average for similar phones on the market in 2011. Its 3-inch thin-film transistor backlit LCD screen displays more than more than 262,000 colors at 240 by 400 pixels of resolution. When fully charged, the Dare's battery provides up to 360 hours, or 15 days, and up to 4.7 hours of talk time. Average standby and talk times for similar models in 2011 are 446 hours, or 19 days, and eight hours, respectively.
Memory and Connectivity
Equipped with 148 megabytes of internal memory, the LG Dare phone contains a built-in Secure Digital card slot for up to 8 gigabytes of expanded memory. The phone connects to the 2G network using code division multiple access technology on the 800 and 1,900 frequency bands. Internet access is attained through the Teleca Obigo Q7.0-1.3 wireless access protocol browser. Using preinstalled Bluetooth wireless technology, the phone provides the option of hands-free calling. For adding content and synchronizing data, the Dare connects to a personal computer through a USB cable.
Camera and Messaging
The LG Dare phone contains a 3.2-megapixel digital camera capable of video recording at 120 frames per second at up to 640 by 480 pixels of resolution. The camera also features a variety of photographic functions, such as an image editor, a self timer and white balance control. The Dare supports text, video, voice and picture messages and provides mobile email through a variety of clients, including Windows Live Mail, Yahoo Mail and America Online.
Miscellaneous
Up to 1,000 contacts, with room for multiple phone numbers and photo and ringtone ID, are supported by the LG Dare, which is also equipped with an audio player. A variety of audio file formats are supported by the phone's music player, including MP3, Windows Media Audio and advanced audio coding. Several Bluetooth profiles are also supported by the phone, such as headset, hands-free, dial-up networking and object push. User interface languages provided on the phone include English and Spanish. For the hearing impaired, the Dare cellphone is Text Telephone (TTY/TDD) compatible.
