Pairing a Bluetooth device with an iPhone is not complicated.
Pairing an iPhone with a Bluetooth device is most common for headsets and hands-free services, as iPhone support in the U.S. has not been functional for items like Bluetooth file transfers and supporting other data without a supporting app. The iPhone comes preset out of the box and prepared for pairing with an iPhone Bluetooth device nearly automatically. However, pairing the iPhone with a third-party Bluetooth device requires a few additional steps.

IPhone-Specific Bluetooth Devices
1. Verify that Bluetooth settings on your iPhone are active. Select the "Settings" button from the home screen of your iPhone and navigate to the General submenu. Select "Bluetooth" from that menu and move the slider to the On position. This enables Bluetooth on your phone.
2. Connect the iPhone Bluetooth device directly to your computer, using the USB cable provided with the device. USB is plug-and-play compatible, meaning that the device will be located almost instantly upon insertion into the machine.
3. Connect the iPhone to the dock or the iPhone cable using a second USB port on your machine. Once the iPhone is discovered on the computer, using plug-and-play technology, the devices will be paired automatically and are ready for use.
Third-Party Bluetooth Devices
4. Verify that your Bluetooth settings for your iPhone are enabled from the Settings menu, exactly the same way as you would when pairing an iPhone-specific device.
5. Turn off the Bluetooth device before trying to pair it with your iPhone. Make certain the device is fully charged, using the instructions from the manufacture; otherwise pairing with the iPhone may not be successful.
6. Turn on the headset and hold down the power button for approximately five to eight seconds until you hear a sequence of high-pitched beeps. This will indicate that the device is discoverable and is ready to be paired with your iPhone. Many Bluetooth-ready devices will also show this by the presence of a flashing blue light, to indicate that it is ready for pairing. 7. Return to the Bluetooth menu on your iPhone to validate that the device is ready for discovery. When Bluetooth settings are enabled for your iPhone, the device will be displayed automatically on the screen. Select the device to begin the pairing.
8. Enter the PIN 0000 to complete pairing the device with your iPhone at the validation screen. The device will now show as paired and connected to your iPhone and is ready for use.
