The Nokia 5500 Sport comes with a pedometer to count your steps.
Designed for sports and fitness enthusiasts, the Nokia 5500 Sport incorporates features specifically for outdoor use. These include one-touch mode switching, activity monitoring, text-to-speech options and a rugged exterior. Programs for the Nokia 5500 vary according to the category and desired function. You can install apps and software by transferring the files onto your phone via personal computer, email attachment, MMS text, built-in Internet browser or Bluetooth. Program files must be Java or Symbian-based to work on the 5500, which has the S60 software platform.
Productivity and Security Programs
Time management applications such as to-do lists, reminders, calendars and note taking make up the majority of productivity programs. The Nokia 5500 comes pre-installed with a basic calendar, notepad and to-do list. For more extensive options, try Handy Calendar for a desktop assistant, Handy Alarm Pro for notifications and Active Notes for note taking. Notable security programs for the 5500 include Phone Wallet and Phone Guardian to safeguard personal data.
Business and Communication Programs
The Nokia 5500 does not come with a document editing program, so MobiSystems Office Suite may come in handy. With this program, you can edit a variety of office documents from Excel, Word and PowerPoint, and save them in the original formats. QuickOffice Pro also lets you edit MS Word documents, and MiniExcel allows you to edit Excel spreadsheets. For communication, programs such as Skype allow you to make international calls, while all-in-one apps such as Nimbuzz and Fring provide you with social networking updates.
Travel Programs
Adding travel programs to your phone can make business and personal trips a little easier. Handy Converter, for instance, calculates unit and currency conversions for international traveling. Google Maps with GPS Support helps with directions and navigation, and provides phone numbers and addresses for local businesses. WeatherBug shows you weather forecasts around the world, along with severe weather alerts and local precipitation maps. Foreign language trainers are also available on the Nokia 5500; these include Pocket Sensei, Trippo and Phrase Book.
Entertainment Programs
Two games come with the Nokia 5500: "Snakes" and "Groove Labyrinth." "Snakes" is a 3-D multiplayer version of the classic game "Snake" and "Groove Labyrinth" is a marble puzzle game. Additional classic games for the 5500 include "Pac-Man," "Tetris," "Bejeweled" and "Space Invaders." "The Sims 3" is also available for simulation fans, along with newer games such as "Doodle Jump" and "Angry Birds." For music, the app Virtual Radio lets you listen to radio stations around the world on your phone. To watch a video, try SmartMovie or download the YouTube app to share videos with your friends.
