Unlock Branded Cell Phones

A new SIM card can be used in your unlocked branded cell phone.

Cell phone service providers put a code on branded cell phones to make sure that users can only use them with their network. This reduces competition within the industry to ensure that users cannot go to other providers when they find a better cell phone deal. Service providers do this by making sure the phone is compatible with only their SIM card unless the phone is unlocked. Obtaining an unlock code for your cell phone can be tricky and it may also cost you a one-time fee. Fortunately, once you've purchased the unlock code for your phone you can use it with any SIM card or cell phone network.

Instructions

1. Contact the service provider if you are moving or traveling to a different country. Some service providers will give you the unlock code for these reasons. If your service provider will not give you the unlock code for your phone, you will need to purchase an unlock code.

2. Go to an unlocking service company online. Click "Sign Up" and enter your full name, email address and a password to purchase an unlocking code for your phone.

3. Select your phone brand and model. You might also need to enter your current mobile provider. Click "Unlock Now."

4. Go to your cell phone and enter "*#06#" to get the IMEI number. This is the number that is specific to your cell phone, and the unlocking service company will require this number to help obtain your unlock code. Both the IMEI number and the unlock code are unique to your phone.

5. Write down the IMEI number and enter it under the "IMEI" space on the unlocking service website.

6. Press "Continue" to enter your credit card details. The unlocking service company will provide the price for the code, which varies per cell phone, but is affordable.

7. Check your email to receive the unlocking code and write it down.

8. Remove the SIM card from your cell phone. Slide off the battery door with your thumb and forefinger. Pull out the battery and remove the SIM card. Insert a new SIM card from the network you want to use. Now slide the battery in the compartment and slide the door over the battery.

9. Press "Power" on your cell phone to turn it on. It will notify you that it has an invalid SIM card. Enter the unlock code that was provided to you and wait for the cell phone to display that it was successfully unlocked.
