Connecting your PC to the Internet via a cell phone can make any place with a wireless signal a mobile hotspot
Configuring a PC to connect to the Internet through a cell phone's data connection is an easy way to get on the Internet in places where you do not normally have Internet access. By connecting your cell phone to the computer via a USB cable or a Bluetooth personal area network, you can get on the Internet at near-broadband speeds wherever you have a cellular connection. Making the connection between PC and cell phone is easy, thanks to the Internet sharing software included on most cell phones and smart phones.
Instructions
1. Launch the Internet Sharing application on your cell phone. On Windows Mobile cell phones and smart phones, the sharing application is titled Internet Sharing, and it is located in the Start menu. On other cell phones, the connection sharing application may have a different name, but it should be located alongside your other applications and utilities.
2. Connect the PC and phone. If you are connecting via USB, simply plug the USB cable into the phone on one end and into the computer on the other end. If you plan to share the connection via Bluetooth, make sure your phone is in discoverable mode and start a search for Bluetooth devices on your Windows PC.
3. Start the sharing connection. On your cell phone, go back to the Internet Sharing application. When the application is launched, the Internet Sharing status should be disconnected. Next, select how you want to share the connection: USB or Bluetooth. Make sure that the application is set to connect via your cell phone carrier's network connection; some unlocked phones may attempt to connect to networks other than the one provided by your cellular carrier. With all the settings in place, press the connect soft key on the screen.
4. Test the connection. After pressing connect, it can take a few seconds for the data sharing connection between the PC and cell phone to initialize. Once connected, your network and sharing component of the taskbar will show a wired Internet connection. Once this is active, open a web browser or messaging software and verify that the Internet connection is active.
