Unlocking your Sony Ericsson T290a is a fairly simple process if you have an unlock code. The Sony Ericsson T290a functions on a GSM network, which means the phone uses a SIM card. A SIM card recognizes the phone owner on a particular network. Without a SIM card, the phone can only make 911 calls. The carrier may provide a free unlock code if your current or past account is in good standing. You can also purchase a code for the Sony Ericsson T290a from an online vendor, such as Unlocking4U or Cell Unlocker.
Instructions
1. Contact your carrier to obtain a free unlock code, or purchase a code online.
2. Turn off your Sony Ericsson T290A.
3. Detach the back cover of your phone by gently pressing the cover and sliding downward.
4. Remove the battery from the battery compartment.
5. Record the 15-or 17-digit IMEI number usually located on a white label attached to the battery compartment. You may also obtain your IMEI number by inputting *#06# with your phone's keypad.
6. Remove the SIM card from the SIM card holder, and replace the battery.
7. Rest the battery cover on the bottom of the phone, and gently move upward until it attaches securely.
8. Press and hold the center button on the navigation pad to turn on your phone.
9. Push the left arrow button on the navigation pad one time.
10. Push the "star" key two times.
11. Push the left arrow button one time.
12. Enter the unlock code when "Personalize with MNC2" appears on the T290A display screen.
