Freezing phones can be aggravating, but many freeze issues can be solved in just a few minutes.
When a phone freezes up it can be disruptive and stop day-to-day tasks. Losing communication in your daily routine can be frustrating. Every phone varies with each model and make, so be sure to reference your phone's official user guide for further help and troubleshooting options. Many phones offer various ways to unfreeze screens or programs, and each of them has different effects as well.
Instructions
Soft Reset
1. Perform a soft reset on your cell phone by locating the "reset" button, usually somewhere on the outer shell of the phone. This will shut down your phone and reset it entirely. You will not lose any programs or software, but unsaved data will be lost.
2. Insert a paper clip or the tip of a pin to press the reset button on the outside of your phone.
3. Allow the cell phone to restart. This method will solve many freezing problems and should allow your phone to reboot without issue.
Hard Reset
4. Perform a hard reset if attempting a "soft reset" does not solve your phone's freezing issue. A hard reset will remove all of your phone's installed programs and custom downloads, so be sure to back up your data before proceeding with a hard reset. A hard reset will set your phone to its original factory settings, leaving only the software the phone originally had prestocked in it.
5. Refer to your cell phone's user manual or guide on which buttons to press when performing a hard reset. Every phone model varies regarding the buttons required to complete a hard reset. Perform the hard reset once you know the correct buttons to press.
6. Allow your phone to reboot and automatically reinstall the phone's default software and settings. This may take a few minutes, as the hard reset must remove all of the previous data as well as install new copies of software.
Clean Up Your Phone
7. Remove programs that you do not use frequently, as too many programs can slow down and freeze your phone.
8. Delete custom ringtones and wallpapers that come with your phone if you do not use them. Regularly update your music library to cut down on too much data slowing down your phone.
9. Close programs that you are not using at the moment. Many times too many open programs can shut down or freeze your phone or its applications.
