Windows XP restrictions can be removed by editing the registry
User restrictions that are set in Windows XP, such as viewing folder options, can be enabled by making changes or modifying the Windows registry. Removing these restrictions from Windows XP is done by modifying the value, of the registry key, for each restriction. This will require you to use the Registry Editor, for Windows XP, to make the necessary changes to remove various restrictions that have been set on the system.
Instructions
1. Click on the Start button and then select the "Run" option. Type "regedit" into the text field in the Run dialog box and then click the "OK" button.
2. Click the + sign next to HKEY_CURRENT_USER to expand the folder list.
3. Click the + sign next to Software. Scroll down and click the + sign next to Microsoft. Scroll down and click the + sign next to Windows. Click the + sign next to CurrentVersion. Click the + sign next to Policies.
4. Look for any DWORD values that have been added for restrictions, such as NoFolderOptions.
5. Double-click on the DWORD value to display the Edit DWORD Value dialog box.
6. Change the value data to from 1 to 0 and then click the "OK" button.
7. Repeat steps 4, 5, and 6 for additional restrictions that you want to remove on your Windows XP system.
8. Click the File drop down and select "Exit." You will then need to restart your computer for the changes to the registry to take effect.
